I won't be getting a bonus this year because I'm still waiting for my job to start. Baby C's due date was today but she's taking her sweet time and doesn't look like she's coming out anytime soon! So I'll be starting work in like 2 or so weeks and for now will have to live vicariously through yall's bonuses. Bring it on!!
Can't wait to read this year's submissions....
MissDee,
Me, too! It is one of my favorite Features... especially when they give us some insight to their feelings about the family (when they are upset with a shabby bonus!)
Totally my favorite post every year!!
MPP,
I think that gives us insight into the person's character.
MissMannah,
I agree... because a person should never complain about a gift.
However, we all know that some Nannies are treated disrespectfully and may take this opportunity to use ISYN as a sounding board.
I think it is a normal reaction for an employee to gauge their worth depending on the value of a gift or bonus.
After working so hard all year... they may think a pair of gloves is a smack in the face.
Absolutely my favorite, can't wait! And I'm not judging anyone for their feelings on their bonuses (or lack thereof). For some nannies who go above and beyond to be hurt by not being acknowledged is perfectly acceptable in my book. If they want to vent about it anonymously here on an internet site, I have no problem with that. I love reading any and all entries!
I still can't force myself to agree, I'm sorry. Bonuses are not the norm in my neck of the woods so *any* gift or bonus at Christmastime is a surprise and very welcome. In fact, the only time I've ever gotten a monetary bonus was when I had worked at a daycare for over 2 years and it was $25 (plus a Secret Santa gift).
MPP, your post reminded me of the book The Nanny Diaries. "Earmuffs?!?" lol
I see the gift list, and I help buy expensive gifts (think $100 apiece) for several doctors and nurses, 10+ teachers, and other various people.
If I don't get any sort of Christmas "bonus" or gift, I will be pretty hurt.
Trifle as that may be, if it's so important to buy a Tiffany ornament for the doctor's assistant, I would hope that I make it up there on the important people list.
Though now that I think about it... I'm the one buying the gifts. So it's quite likely that there will be nobody to buy one for me hahaha
For those of you that leave your comments for the ISYN Christmas Bonus in MEEBO:
PLEASE try to leave your answers all in the same post... breaking them up is confusing, especially if you don't have a moniker (when I signed on this morning there were over a dozen anonymous messages).
Also, it would help SO much if you copy & pasted the format:
Bonus this year (2011):

Thanks!! ;-)
Jedd,
Lol I actually was the director's pet at that particular center as she was my sister's friend when they were kids. But that's beside the point because everyone got $10 for every year of service in the form of a gift card and it was a private daycare. I've worked at several corporate daycares and you always get bupkis at those places. Though sometimes the parents feel generous and will regift whatever Christmassy junk they have lying around.
Does anyone know the proper etiquette for giving employers Christmas gifts? Thanks!
AW
Oh ^ I was wondering that too! I just started a few months ago & this is my first nannying job. Do I buy gifts for employer AND children? Or just children? Or none at all?
I used to work a private daycare and we never got anything from our bosses and we didn't get them anything either. But the parents were always generous with gift cards & other little gifts! Some parents gave each of their child's teachers a $100 bill... I'm going to miss Christmas at my old job.. =)
