Nanny was ignoring child and focused on her phone. When the child tried to get her attention, she yelled at him and then went back to her phone.

BACKFIRED
I live in a neighborhood with several nannies. One of the nannies is always yelling at the kids, pulling them harshly inside, chasing the kids around, screaming at them. It will be calm for three hours and then not calm. I have also heard the nanny say "Fucking Fuck". So I didn't want to deal with the issue but wanted to alert the parents, I guess similar to why this blog exists. Or not, I don't even know. I wrote:
She charged at me at 8:00 this morning. Banged on my front door. My daughter was at my knees and she started screaming at me that I had an "unnatural interest" in her nanny and children and that I must be "deviant" and that I needed to mind my own business or she would have to file a restraining order against me. She also told me that I made her nanny uncomfortable.
So, I ask you ISYN, what did I do wrong? By the way, I never admitted I didn't send her a note or anything. I didn't have the choice. I didn't say much because I didn't want to lose my cool in front of my child.

Bad Nanny Sighting at Indian Road Playground
Location: Indian Road Playground in NYC
Date: Monday, 7/27/15
Description of Nanny: African American black nanny with short, fluffy hair, medium skin, tall, long neck, wearing gold bangles, white jeans with rips in both front thighs and white t-shirt with a gold cat on it that said "My Pussy". (really)
Description of Child: Chubby white girl in red short sleeved dress, with blunt bob haircut, bangs, brown hair and blue eyes. The girl was wearing a silver ID? bracelet on her left hand.
Incident: I Saw Your Nanny mistreating your child! I saw the little girl asking to go home and complaining that she was tired, hungry and thirst. The nanny told her, "oh you always hungry, go play". She said that to her multiple times. Finally the girl came back and said, "But I really am thirsty". The nanny took out a Mott's Apple Juice box, popped a straw in it, took a long drag and then handed it to the girl. The girl said, "But you drank it." The nanny said, "Yeah, so, you can share." The little girl said, "But I am really thirsty. I am playing, you are just sitting". The nanny said, "Yah you're playing, I'm working, go on now." On this day, it was really warm and muggy out. I brought my child to play but we only stayed for 20 minutes because it just felt unpleasant. This nanny and child were still there.

Reckless Nanny Sighting in Glendora, CA
I don't know if this was a nanny or a babysitter!
Description: I saw Your Nanny...This was a blonde woman of about 19-23, with hair in a pony tail, plain white painter's cap, black tank top, black track shorts with white piping, knee high socks and tennis shoes. Tanned and fit.. She was riding a bike. She was riding what I think is called a beach cruiser, a large, squat black bike with large tires. I didn't see the brand.
Description of Child: bald but possibly some wispy dark hairs, wrapped in a blanket, a receiving style blanket. Unknown if girl or boy, but I would say under 4 months
Incident: I was pushing my stroller past Gladstone this morning when I saw this! I thought she had a hobo sack or satchel. As I got closer, I could see the bicyclist was carrying an infant in her arms as she was riding on Gladstone Street. She was going fast. She had the baby in her left arms, and rode with one hand only. The baby was wrapped in a blanket but I couldn't tell if it was white or cream. I did see a few dark hairs at the top, but this baby was tiny! Why was she riding her bike with a baby? She was going fast. She turned and went South on North Valley Center. I was almost passed the school, so I can't be sure, but I think she turned right on Renwick. It was so scary, after she disappeared from sight, my heart was racing and I looked around for a police officer.
Location: Area of Gladstone Elementary School. Glendora, CA.
Time: 7:10 AM, Monday 7:20 AM. Please post immediately!

23 Year Old Reflects on Her Perfect Nanny
When I was about 8 years old, my mom hired a nanny for myself and my brother. We were both in school. Her job was to work in the morning and get us off to school and then get us from school and drive us to horseback riding, activities, etc. She lived in and was with us for about six months in 1999. My mom and brother thought she was perfect.
I've never understood the way she treated me. I used to want to track her down and let her know I remember what she did. She was nice to my brother. In fact, I remember him and his pals all had a crush on her. I was a kid with issues and one of the appointments she took me to was a weekly therapy appointment. I'll never understand why I didn't tell the therapist how she treated me. Maybe it was because she was so savvy and together and everyone seemed to like her.
The things she did to me. Other people I know have had it worse. She made me a vanilla milkshake and put horseradish in it. Then she made me drink it. When I wet the bed, she made me wear my underwear on my head and strip and wash the bedding myself, all the while calling me disgusting and telling me "no wonder no one likes you". I was 8 years old.
One time she asked me to help her find her earring. I was so eager to please, I was helping her. She pushed me in the trunk and slammed the hood. I don't know how long she left me there. It wasn't that long, but it was terrifying. On nights my brother had soccer practice, she would take me to the park next to his, just out of sight and make me run. Run against a stop watch and run to the point of vomiting.
She did strange things like stole homework I know I did from my backpack, slipped a crudely drawn (imitating an 8 year old) penis in with a book report, ripped library books, and literally dumped a can of coke in my back pack once and just smiled at me daring to say something. When I had friends over, she was so nice to me. She would sing, dance, buy us treats with her own money (ice cream store). After we dropped off a friend, her and I, if alone, would drive back to my house and she would drive and make reckless turns to scare me. She would scream "I HATE YOUR FRIENDS, DO YOU THINK I GET PAID TO TAKE CARE OF ADDITIONAL SHITHEADS?"
I am writing this now, not because I still want to contact her and ask her why she did what she did. I have made peace with my childhood now. I am writing this because I was a regular kid. At the time, I imagined I was somehow deserving of this treatment, but the truth is the only thing odd about me is that she caught me as my parents were going through a divorce and I was emotionally struggling. In pictures, I was an attractive child who always had a smile on her face. She made me feel so ugly and worthless. I no longer care why she did what she did. I care that people like her out there. People who smile and joke with parents and even treat one or more children with kindness and regard while systematically destroying the child. I didn't tell my Dad until years later. The fact that I had waited so long and never told anyone made him think it wasn't that big deal, maybe I remembered it wrong. You know kids...they have imaginations. I was a mommy's girl, I just missed my mom.
Wrong. This all happened. I don't know if a site like this will help you find a nanny like mine. In public, she was usually quite nice. If we went to the mall, she was nice to me. She glared, she cursed under her breath. Once, when I got in the car, she hit me with her flip flop in the head, hard atleast ten times while screaming so loud, calling me a retard and telling me I was going to end up in jail. I remember sitting in the backseat of our family's SUV and her so out of control, the SUV was shaking. Why? I never did anything. I really wanted her to like me, like she liked my brother.
If I were to see a nanny like mine in public, I would recognize her. I'm just writing to ask all of you to look out for the kids around you, children in daycare, children with nannies, children with au pairs, children with stay at home Moms. Some people will tell you to mind your business. Watch for the nanny who seeks to much control over her charge, he seems miffed when the child steps out of the control zone. One thing I remember is my nanny loved Subway, but I like most kids loved Burger King. Since my mom paid for our food out, she needed me to like subway. I once voiced that in front of my Aunt. My Aunt agreed with the nanny and said, "Oh I hear you, I hate fast food, just take her to Burger King and go to Subway for yourself." A simple solution. Right? After a dentist appointment where I couldn't eat for a half hour, she drove to burger kind and got me the kids meal I wanted. Then she said, "Oh no, we should have went to Subway first, this is just going to get cold". So she set it on the seat and made me go in Subway while she ordered and ate, a foot long subway, a huge drink, chips and a cookie. I was starving. My dentist appointment was right after school. As she was finishing up, she smiled and said, "yay, your time is up, you can eat now". We went out to the car. She picked up my drink and handed it to me, but it had just a sip of soda in it and ice, I guess she laid it on it's side. I pretended not to see her pick up a gallon of water and drop it on my Burger King bag five times. She passed it back to me and said nothing. I said nothing either as I ate, cold mushed fries and a flattened soggy burger.
Other kids have it rougher. I get that. But this sort of person shouldn't be working with children. So, keep your eyes open, get in someone's business. Start conversations with nannies. They don't have to be accusatory. Listen.

McDonalds in Glastonbury, CT
Date: Thurs, 4/23
Location: McDonald's in Glastonbury,CT
Description of Nanny: I saw Your Nanny, a very large woman, possibly size 28. Tall. AA, hair smoothed very straight and wearing a North Carolina Baseball cap.
Description of Child: Called "Annie" by the nanny. White girl, 2.5-3.5, brown straight hair, wearing a brown corduroy pinafore with light colored tights.
Incident: These two were sitting near us having lunch. After lunch, the nanny went over to the playspace, helped the girl out of her shoes and let her loose in the play area. All fine. Then she goes outside to smoke a cigarette. And then she did it again. The girl seemed to be fine, but she did exit the play area and run to the window to look out and make sure nanny was still there. I don't think that was a good set up. The nanny was driving a cream colored Toyota 4X4, I think called an FJ. When the nanny was outside smoking she was leaning on the hood and looking down at her phone or out towards the street. If she had still been trained on the kid she was watching, I would have been more comfortable. Maybe this isn't a big deal to you, but if she was my nanny, it would be.

The Long Story with the Big Wicked Smile
I have a really different and embarrassing situation. If I shared just half of it, I don't think you would understand why I am so hesitant to say anything. Last summer, we hired a summer nanny. I work for myself, so I set my schedule but was trying to put in extra hours to free up midsummer to go to our summer house for a month. During the first three weeks, I was in and out often. My children are school aged, were fresh off for the summer and had a lot of activity and desire to do things. The nanny seemed to assimilate immediately. The children had no complaints of her. I noticed some things that I would have minded if she was going to be long term, such as her messiness and lateness, but as I said that first three weeks was very busy. The nanny would take the children to the club to swim, to lunch, even to a Yankee game. I provided petty cash and a credit card.
This is a lot of background, but kind of essential. The first week at our summer house, she and I went up with the kids and my husband was due to arrive Thursday. The week went fine. I had other help to combat the messiness and since we are vacation and she was living with us at the house, punctuality was not an issue. I can't even say I minded spending time with her when we were all together. On Thursday night, my husband came up, we went out to dinner. The next morning, we provided her transport to her home (about 90 minutes away). I had a car service pick her up on Monday morning and she arrived as scheduled. My husband was going to go back to work the next afternoon, so we were going to have dinner out again. The nanny watched the kids again at night, not a problem. It was a late night that night as we met up with old friends. Everyone was asleep when we came home. The next afternoon, my husband left and things seemed to go on as planned.
The housekeeper was straightening up and the nanny and kids were out at the beach when I walked in. The housekeeper was complaining about the room the nanny slept in, that there were food wrappers in there. I told her just to throw it out and that I would say something to her tonight. I heard the housekeeper say, 'I don't know what is trash and what isn't'. So I walked in behind her to see if it really was that big of a deal, There were food wrappers and postcards and magazines everywhere. Also souvenir bags and a bag from a fudge shop. I asked the housekeeper to hand me the fudge shop bag, remarking that I would tell her to keep the food in the kitchen. Curiously, I looked to see what she had bought and noticed a charge slip in the bag. This only stood out because the nanny did not have a charge card. It didn't set off any alarms at first, since she took the kids for ice cream and candy, and of course she should have gotten something for herself. Right? What is the difference between an ice cream and a box of chocolate.
After I heard the housekeeper leave, I went back in the room and looked in the other bags. Trying to wrap this up, but she had bought herself about 1000.00 worth of stuff on my credit card, just on the receipts there. I knew I had a problem. I called my husband and he said I needed to confront her. He was meanwhile going to check the charge card for previous balance. I didn't confront her until after dinner when the kids were upstairs.
She immediately began to yell at me. I came at her calmly. She asked why I was in her room. (This is why I provided the back story). She didn't just yell at me about going in her room. She yelled at me about being an absent parent. She made remarks about how much time I had spent with the children on vacation. When I told her my husband was checking the charge card for other charges, she got mad and said, "you told him?". I told her of course that I did. She claimed that she only bought the things because she didn't have a charge card and she was going to pay me back with my salary and if I had a problem with "our arrangement" why didn't I say something before we came out to ____. She then went to her room and slammed the door and started packing her things. The children were alerted to the argument by her loud voice and I sent them outside to roast marshmallows. My husband calls back and asks about some charges. There wasn't anything especially alarming as they were all places she took my kids, but clearly by what she said to me, some of those purchases had been her own. I told my husband how she was acting and he told me to hang up and call the cops about what happened there, since those charges were there. She stormed out and said, "either you need to get me transportation or give me money and I'll find a ride, but I cannot stay here like this". I told her my husband told me to call the cops. She then got a big wicked smile on her face and said, "oh, okay, do that." I looked at her funny and she chuckled and said, "I took pictures of what was left outside on the patio table, the alcohol, the drugs." I stared at her blankly. She says, "yes, before I cleaned up the cocaine residue and the card used to cut it and threw out the magazine with the powder traces on it and threw out all the beer bottles, I took some pictures. Because, I certainly wouldn't want to be blamed for child endangerment or possessing illegal drugs." Now she never showed me any pictures, however, the truth of the matter is that last night we were out late, some friends had come back to the house with us for drinks and they are cocaine users. I didn't admit or say anything but called a local taxi for her and paid cash and sent her on her way. She then demanded that I pay her. I was alone, nervous, and didn't want my kids to hear this, so I wrote her a check for the full week. She left. Later I explained some parts of it to the children. My husband came back out. He didn't like how I handled it and assigned blame to me. All of that was last July.
So, now to my point. I have an acquaintance I know in the neighborhood. Our regular nanny has play dates with her youngest child at my house with her child and vice versa. Because I set my hours, I know this nanny and she knows me. I happened to see the child who is in the same school, but not grade as my oldest with a new nanny, who is, you guessed it...the nightmare nanny from last summer. She really did steal from us, as much as $2200 in credit card purchases and possibly cash too. I don't feel I can say anything to my friend because the nanny came at me with such vengeance when I confronted her. Then of course, I too am worried about any pictures she might have taken. What would you do? When we saw each other at school pick up, she looked right past me, but didn't say anything. My husband assures me she won't do or say anything, that I am overreacting, but he wasn't there. My confrontation of her for stealing from us was the worst moment of my life. I felt completely powerless and foolish.
Your thoughts?

I work as a live out nanny in a building on the Upper West Side of NYC. I have seen the nanny of another tenant with her charge in the building at at a nearby cafe and a park. The nanny behaves in such a way to the child in public that I would be really worried about how she treated the little guy when she was alone. One thing I did see was her grab the crying child's face tightly while crying and say, "you will stop that crying". If you could see how rough she was with him or the look on her face, you would understand my concern. I said to her, "I see you're having a rough day.." She cut me off and said, "what do you see, what do you see". I tried to say something like "i just noticed" and she kept mocking me and saying, "what do you see, what do you see. Yeah that's right..you saw nothing. That's what you saw." I was intimidated. That was two months ago. I didn't do anything. I have managed to find out who she works for and her employer is known as "obnoxious" and "narcissistic" and "a real bitch." Today I saw them coming in from the outdoors and she told him to move his hands, when he did not, she intentionally rammed his fingers in to the door frame, really hard. I did not say anything or make eye contact with her but I had a very good vantage point to see her malice and how intentional this was. So I have been thinking what is the best way to handle this? I can't give a note to the doorman because if the employer demanded to know who gave it to him, he would tell her. His job is to wait on their type, not mine. So I was thinking the best thing to do is to send her a letter by US Mail now that I know her first and last name. I don't want this traced back to me and I don't want her to ignore it. Any advice on the wording I should use to emphasize that I have a true concern for how her child (a boy of 19 months) is treated by his nanny.

Tuesday
Eli's on 3rd & 80th in NYC
Location: Eli's
Description of Nanny: Puerto Rican woman, wearing jeans, black tennis shoes and a yellow fleece jacket with running/reflector strips on the shoulder.
Description of Child: White girl, about 2 years old, blonde straight shoulder length hair.
I Saw Your Nanny at Eli's this morning just after 10. She was with your daughter wearing a pink & brown plaid coat, blue jeans and a sucking on a green binkie. The nanny was picking out fruit and very rough with the little girl who had her hands help up asking the nanny to pick her up. The nanny slapped her hands away once. After the nanny grabbed some apples and fruit, she walked over to the olive area and grabbed a handful of olives, with her bare hand. I didn't like how she treated the child. Outside, she stuffed her into tangerine canopied umbrella stroller that was being guarded by a black male of about 25. I could not get a picture inside and once outside there were too many people.

Wednesday
Peter Green Park in Huntington Beach, CA
Tuesday 3:00/3:30
Nanny: older, sixties, wearing grey skirt, white tennis shoes, green sweater, grey hair
Child: Max, age approx 3. Short light brown hair, wearing sweatpants suit with yellow dump truck on black hoodie.
Location: Peter Green Park
Situation: This nanny is too old to be in charge of Max. Maybe she was Max's baby nurse. I am sure she was great with him, but she cannot keep up with this kid. He found himself in dangerous situations, he takes risks and she cannot move quick enough. He ran from her atleast five times, no doubt sensing her weakness. He got into the parking lot three times and once made it to a patch of grass between the parking lot and SeaGate Drive before a guy parking his car stopped him from going into the street. You're going to need to decide if this nanny is going to work for your family, but she cannot, and I repeat, cannot take your child to parks like this one where he cannot be contained. And just to be clear, she was the nanny and she really tried.

What is a nanny state?
Intrusive government policies in Europe and recently the United States, designed to legislate morality and social behavior, assuming the state knows best what constitutes such, in the goal of essentially protecting people from the obvious consequences of their own stupid and destructive behaviors. Therefore, the central government believes it has the comprehensive and moral duty to protect the citizenry from itself. A derogatory term used in reference to intrusive political policies where the government has an excessive desire to govern and control society in the name of “protection.” When the central government of countries goes from being a governing body to a regulatory power and social caretaker, that engages in social protectionism and economic intervensionism, to control you from the womb to the tomb and instituionalizes them as common practice.

Tuesday
Mamaroneck Hotel Mamaroneck, NY
Received Tuesday, October 3, 2006
I have a nanny behaving not like a nannystory for you. She takes care of two kids and one is in school during the day. The 2 1/2 year old is not in school so she takes the kid with her like after lunch to meet up with her boyfriend at the Mamaroneck Hotel. She works as a nanny in Mamaroneck. Her boss has no idea she does this. And she gets paid good money as a nanny. I know she has done this at least twice. What do you think she is doing at a hotel for a few hours a day? She says the kid naps then. Seems wrong to me.
