I have been with my family for 3 months.
The position is not what I thought it would be. I interviewed when the first time parents were pregnant and told me how they planned to raise their baby. I agreed with them on this as it fit my style of nanny-big/education. Now that baby is here, they have 180-ed. Baby is held for every nap. No routine or schedule whatsoever. Not allowed to bring baby on outings.

Mom is extremely demeaning and doesn't ever let me talk about this. Always says aww well it's too much, you don't have to do that and NEVER lets me get a word in. I am 26 and treated like a 13 year old.

I just can't even stand this family anymore. I'm so annoyed by them, depressed from sitting inside 9.5 hours a day and making $8/hr.

I just got offered my dream job in marketing and it will allow me to finish school.

HOWEVER- contract states we both must give 6 weeks notice. The marketing job needs me to start in 3.

I don't want to give the full 6 weeks. I'm feeling really bad about screwing an entire family Over but also have to do what's best for me.

Honest advice and input?

Why do you care? If offered something that will be a better fit go for it. Most states are "at will" so basically you can leave or they can get rid of you at any time. Get out fast. Hope you like your new position. These opportunities don't always come along so don't give it up.

This mother hired you cheap and was dishonest with you and the atmosphere is bad for your health. You cannot miss your dream job to be in a bad situation. Give the 3 week notice but be prepared for the mother to yell at you and try to manipulate you. Try to have a family member/boyfriend with you when you give notice. There is not very much she can do because of the contract. what, hire a lawyer? they are probably short of money anyway

Hmm. “Most states are at will...” Not if a contract is involved. If you’re hired at McDonalds, sure, quit whenever you want. But if you’re hired and sign a legal document that states 6 weeks notice (which is an absurdly long time), then you’re required to give 6 weeks notice.
And the mother more than likely wasn’t “dishonest.” It’s SO easy to decide what your parenting style is BEFORE you have a baby. Then guess what? Real life happens. Some parents just aren’t the type to let a baby cry (ever). And really, what need do you have to take an infant out?
It sounds to me more like the OP just found a better job and is looking for reasons to hate her current job and needs justification as to why breaking her contract is okay. If you didn’t want to make $8/hr you shouldn’t have taken the position. Good luck with whatever you choose. But just be careful. Your boss could come at you for lost monies (if she has to stay home from work while looking for another nanny, or if she has to send the baby to daycare, you could be responsible for the bill).

Is $8.00 an hr legal minimum wage in your state? You are also working overtime. I am betting they are not paying you the legal overtime fee. If not that could break your contract with them.

I was in a very bad position. Found out from nanny next door I was the 7th nanny to be hired in 2 years.
I went to a mental health professional who wrote a written statement that the environment was detrimental to my health. And she said she would be willing to testify in court if need be. But she didn’t think it would ever go that far.
My husband delivered my resignation letter and the drs letter.
And I never returned and they never contacted me again.
Good luck!

My husband and I have been having lots of problems living together, he never gives me attention or makes me happy because he has fallen in love with another woman outside our marriage. I tried my best to make sure that my husband leaves this woman but the more I talk to him about it the more he makes me feel sad and unhappy, My marriage started leading to divorce because he no longer gives me attention. I wanted to forget him but i love him and didn't want to lose him. We have been married for years and he is all I could call a true best friend and best in all, the man that handles my problems perfectly, the man that makes sacrifices for my happiness. I wanted him back in my life badly and I was so confused. My Friends told me to buy books about relationships, so I went online for relationship books while I came across a spell caster called Dr Emu. I read testimonies and reviews about him so I contacted him immediately, explained my problems to him. Same day , he casted a spell for me and assured me for 2 days that my husband will return to me and to my greatest surprise the third day my husband came knocking on my door and begged for forgiveness. I am so happy that my love is back again and not only that, we are about to get married again, he proposed. I wouldn't stop talking about him. Contact him today if you need his help via email: and you will see that your problem will be solved without any delay. Website:
