Twins, approximately six months old being cared for by a nanny:
These twins are walked to the park most nice days. The nanny then sits on a bench and eats her bagel and gabs on her cell phone. It bothers me that when she is on the phone, she shakes the stroller and says, "no, no, no, no, no" when one of them start crying. (Never straying from her cell phone conversation which is always in Spanish). I am not sure whether she speaks English or not. Quite honestly, I wonder why you would hire someone like her to take care of your children because she seems so disconnected from them, nothing about her says, "care". Your children are in an expensive stroller and wear really nice clothing, why don't you focus some of that money on their proper care? The children are in a double, side by side stroller and are very fair. The nanny is Hispanic, 30-40, about 5'5" and probably a size 12-14.

How hard is she shaking the stroller?

It just amazes me how these wealthy parents hire nannies who can't even speak to their children....

Again, it is the same issue. Some parents, wealthy or not, are always willing in spend money in innocuous things (expensive clothing, stroller, accesories) and still they don't want to pay for a certified, trained nanny who will charge them more money of what they willing to pay, and instead they hire (most of the time) illegal, starving latin american women, with zero training and zero english, which means that theres no way that you will know what the hell is going on with your child, but hey! you greedy parent, your saving some money, right??. and then they ask themselves why bad things happened to their children. instead of hiring somebody who at least, at least speaks their language and have some reference.

Why is it such a problem to have a nanny who speaks a language other than English. Maybe then your children can learn to look outside of their sheltered communities. People everywhere else in the world speak more than one language, why should Americans be any different? Nannies who teach the children a foreign language should be praised, just think how that'll help them get into college! The nannies still need to be skilled, no matter what they speak, but communication with a toddler or infant is more about body language and tone than the words themselves.

You again? A toddler needs to learn many things. How about the ABC's, how about simply having someone to tell you stories or to joke with? You are so obviously trying to justify your hiring of a nanny who doesn't speak English. No other explanation is acceptable! My child is a priority. Your child is NOT. And one day, he will KNOW just that!

I don't think it's a problem if a nannies first language is not english, however they MUST be able to communicate in english for many reasons. i.e. >doctors visits >to let the parent know whats happening w/ the child > emergencies and so on....It's not rocket science

If you want a nanny who just stands their and looks at the child, then by all means, hire someone who speaks nine words of English. Make sure she can quickly dial 911. Nueva oonce oonce.
I do not understand these people who place so little importance on the care of their child. I don't care if you work at home, work out of the home, stay at home, have one nanny or 12. DO not leave your children in the care of someone whose language prevents them from truly caring for the child.

it is nueve (9) uno (1) uno (1) darling!. yet again... i think this guy is really trying to justify himself with the diversity speech... is not about if she speaks other language than english... she MUST speak english if she works in an english speaking country! duh! and please do not get me wrong, i'm mexican, which obviously means i speak spanish, which means that i'm not being freaking racist, but c'mon!! i would never leave my child with somebody who can't comunicate with me or somebody else in case of emergency!
