Resigning from nanny job

I am considering resigning from a nanny position that I've been in for about 6 months. The kids & I have a good bond but I have to use my personal car for work. At first I thought I wouldn't mind. But I literally have to take them somewhere everyday & run errands for the parents in between. I am only paid $20 a month for this. Yes a month. The mom thinks that is fair compensation. I don't because I am adding extra miles to a car that I have to keep for the next three years, & paying for extra cleanings, oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Is this fair? I am not sure if I am overreacting. Or should I look for something else? I would feel horrible to leave but it stresses me out so much.

I would ask for more gas money a month. I get $40 a month for gas (for my car) and I don't even use my car to take the girls anywhere, I use theirs. If it's stressing you out, you will not be happy and will get burnt out. There's good people out there, if they aren't willing to give more in gas money , find a new family.

I drove my own car for my last nanny job and it really wasn't that big a deal. And I got no compensation for it. Unless you're driving hundreds of extra miles a month, it's really not an issue. Extra oil changes and tire rotations??? Come on, that seems a little dramatic. If you agreed to it then you agreed to it.

By law I think you are entitled to 0.55 cents per mile. It is a big deal, if you are driving 10-15 miles a day it adds up. It's is more wear and tear. Plus just having kids in the car puts a liability on you. Do you have extra coverage insurance wise if in accident. Keep that in mind.

You should be compensated the current IRS rate for mileage reimbursement. Dont take anything less! Ive been a nanny 25 years, its important that the standard is maintained. Ask for what you rightfully deserve, in my case .54/mile. Good luck nannies!

It's not the mom's fault you accepted such a low compensation for gas. I would have said no the first time she offered 20. I am really tired of nannies accepting cheap pay/compensation. Stand up for yourself. And learn that 'no' is a complete sentence.

I end quitting my job today, just because I said no driving since the beginning for the mother and she insisted all the time about driving my or her fancy car. Once you drive your car for others and have a car accident, nobody will help or pay your expenses, and could always be worst if you have the kids in the car.
So no $20 or more or less will pay in the end.
