Mom Busts Mom !! ( 100% Sure It's NOT a Nanny!)
Note: This came in by phone so the punctuation may not be perfect
From: Mrs. T. south houston near the astrodome
I am very protective of my young children being a single parent, that's just how I am. I teach many ages through years and years of Sunday school-some kids really need parenting and some just a teacher, But I am always here ready and able. Recently I stopped by one of the kids houses to talk to the mom, I knocked and knocked, finally a little 6 year old boy, a member of our Sunday group answered the door. I said Hi! I came to see your mom. He began to cry and say she was not there. So I asked who was with him and he said he was home alone and I asked why, was she gone long etc...He knew me very well as I teach him each Sunday.
He told me his young uncle was supposed to be watching him but left him there. So I could not leave this child, and it really ticked me off that his mother and uncle left him. I live in the same neighborhood 3 blocks away,So I asked him if he would like to come to my house until his mom got home from work about 3 hours from then. He said yes and I told him not to be afraid. I asked him why he answered the door and he said because I saw it was you. So I left a note that said "I stopped by your house and found your little boy crying, left by himself all alone. He is with me. Come get him when you get home" and signed it
I found this totally unacceptable. PARENTS! You need to know who is watching and caring for your children. This uncle is 18 and has drug issues. And that goes for everyone - parents, nannies, family! Next time I will call CPS!!

Not related to nannying at all. She should have called CPS immediately.
U could have been arrested for kidnapping. You should have at the childs house. Waited for parents. Good for u though for probably saving that child.
Well, whether it is or isn't related to nannying, it's related to child welfare. Since the OP knows the family and the child I do think she did the right thing not calling the CPS. Obviously she knows this was a very unusual situation and CPS would cause a lot of unnecessary problems, and most likely destroyed their relationship. True, keeping the child at its own home would be better but then again, I'm sure she had things to do, and did the next best thing. I hope the family gets the wake up call and will get someone more responsible to care for their little one!
If this women is a teacher, she is a mandatory reporter. She should have called the Police and CPS right away. The child is 6, six, people. How many other times has this child been left alone, or, how many times in the future will it happen. OP is a teacher, a mandatory report; as are nannies, child care workers, doctors, ect. The relationship may have been destroyed, but a CPS report is anonymous, if wanted.
I have called CPS, against my bosses wish. Single dad was my boss; I called against the mom. I reached my hand up to grab something above the child and the child cowered in defiance. I notice the child's re-action and started asking questions. Child though I was going to hit him. I hugged him close, told him never ever would I do that and that no one should ever do that, and how he should never be afraid, yada-yada, he can trust me to talk. He told me his mom had been stressed out and hit him last week and the week before. I told child I have to tell his dad... he started crying, hard core crying, trying to protect mom told me not to. TO calm the child I said I wasn't, but texted the dad and told him as a mandatory reporter I have to call CPS, but won't around child, and how he needed dad ASAP (he came home). I was asked not to, but I didn't listen. I called CPS. DB was upset because mom was upset. I got more hours because her custody time was taken. DB cooled and realized I was right and that mom got anger management classes from it.
Children are easily manipulated. Children need a voice. This is why people who work with kids are mandatory reports... children might tell us something. Its up to us to ask questions if something looks or sounds odd. Children will give small hints, they are smart, but need help.
I agree, you should've called the police and CPS. You're not doing that child any favors by not reporting. This could easily happen again, and you wouldn't know...
You're lucky you didn't get arrested for KIDNAPPING!!!! Which IS what you did. Even with the best of intentions!!!!!!!
You should have tried calling the mom -- and if you couldn't reach her -- then the police.
Your actions were just WRONG. This needed to be reported.

Yeah if I came home and found my child was taken without permission from me or uncle I would have you arrested. There would go your job I would hope and I would tell everyone you took my child. I wouldn't trust your judgment and you shouldn't be at my home anyway. Did you check that uncle wasn't home? How do you know he wasn't busy and child was mad. Yeah I would make sure you were charged with kidnapping. Now if you called CPS and could prove my brother was a drug user and I left him all the more for you but I doubt that it would stick.
