The Rants 2015, #3

Oddnomoly
My nanny takes my children to art class, music class, soccer, the park, the coffee shop and 20 other places. When I interviewed her, she was wearing a button down shirt, long skirt and cute loafers. I remember because she reminded me of Elaine from Seinfeld. As the days have gone on, the nanny's "real style" has come out. Am I wrong to see nanny as a reflection of me? She wears everything logo, shoes, bags, etc. I know the shoes and bags and watch are fake. I don't know why it bother's me so but it drives me to distraction. We live in the NYC area. The Fendi bag she carries sells for almost $30K, the Elba Ballerina shoes are around $700. It's not just the faux expense, but a leopard print juicy sweatshirt? I feel bad for her. I'm quite sure she is mocked on a regular basis, and she's not a kid, she's 32! It's not just clothes and handbags, but Gucci sunglasses and Lanvin jewelry, and trendy hair accessories... And it's just not about the price or the contemptuous style, but I hired someone who was going to get on the floor with the kids, toss a Frisbee in the park. I feel duped! And a little pissed off!

I hope this is a joke. If dress attire is something that concerned you, you should have addressed it at the interview.. So that interviewees could tell you to shove it. Why the hell is your nanny not allowed (in your eyes) to wear name brand clothes? Fake or not. You don't own her. She is not your slave. Honestly princess, grow the fuck up.

Ya that is the most ridick thing I have read in a while. You should be glad you have a neat and trendy nanny that is trying to look nice. You have mental problems way beyond your realization. I have been a nanny in the past. I show up in dollar store running shoes and plaint white ts in the summer...dont care what I look like I AM Not an accessory for the parents to show off like a handbag. You are a shallow individual..I hope your kids see through your bs and dont turn out like you... you are poor excuse for a parent.

Are you for real?

From reading this, "the NYC area" means the middle of Joisey. The mom is afraid people might think the nanny is fancier than she is.

Sounds like you are describing Fran Drescher as "the nanny"
I hope this is fake. Come on lol

Sounds to me like the nanny misrepresented herself in an interview! I like to have my nanny dress in scrubs. They are easy to wash, no maintenance and inexpensive. I provide five pairs of scrubs for my nanny in our hall closet. Just plain scrubs. She is happy to have them and not ruin her nice clothes.

I'm calling bullshit. Who could be this big of an asshole?

I this this mom boss would like her nanny to be seen as the hired help and look inferior in the eyes of her friends. The face that she is dressing fancy shadows her and she might be afraid that the nanny look like she is the mom.

In other word, she'd rather have her nanny getting dressed like shit so she'll be relieve that other people will see her as an inferior social class than hers .

I know it's fucked up but TONS of rich people are like that. It's like they are on a power trip.

When I was 25, I loved labels.
When I was 30, I liked labels.
At 35, I appreciated labels.
In my 40's, I still like and appreciate labels.

I went to an interview with a Louis Vuitton bag and nice Ugg boots, as it was the middle of winter. I dress up for interviews, whatever I feel like wearing that looks nice and professional. I may even spray on some Versace Bright Crystal, Versace Yellow Diamond or Prada Candy.

I work in a childcare center, and Thank God we wear scrub pants with our center's tee shirt. I may wear makeup to work, and put on perfume with diamond studs in my ears. No rings or bracelets, as they are hard to wear working with 2-3 year olds.

When I go out, out comes the dressed up fancy look. I never dress like that for interviews. What's the point?

So she has labels. Is that a big deal? Maybe she likes to look nice. Does that bother you? You could have bad nanny with labels or cheap clothing who does nothing with your kids all day, or you can appreciate your nanny, labels and all.

As I write this, I am off to work with one of my favorite client families until 1130p this evening. I am wearing Old Navy shorts and flip flops, a plain white tee and Victoria's Secret Body Spray.

Oops, there go the labels again. Carrie Bradshaw liked labels too.

I always look nice in noon labelled dresses. I only own dresses. I get down and dirty with the kids. Nothing holds me back. I don't care if my clothes get marked up.....they're just clothes. My view on stuff is different than most. Clothes are clothes. No matter what they will need to be laundered. I even machine wash anything that says dry clean... Because if it can't survive a machine, it has no business being in my wardrobe. I never dry my clothes though. I have spilled food, got dirt, Mud, puke and more on my stuff.... Not a big deal. What is a big deal to me is expressing my style. I always look good but the kids never suffer.

Wait. I don't understand why the OP feels bad for the nanny and thinks she get mocked?

Because of the clothing. Because she looks like a ninny. I suggest a dress code in my childcare contract. It included ked, denim jeans, cotton clothing of appropriate length, width and velocity, etc.

In case anyone is interested, I tore the hell out of Lilly Pulitzer at 5 Targets and have extra dresses in size 6 and 8. I wear exclusively Lilly from April thru July.

Better to look like a ninny than sound like one.

The comments on this one really seal the deal, lmfao.

This is the funniest post I've seen in a while. Tyvm.

I don't think the person is worried about her dressing fancy- it's more that she is embarrassed for her that she dresses so tacky!

we need more people to explain it to this OP without cursing at her, to help her nanny

i think the posters that agree to work dress in advance are on the ball
