I was recently looking at job listings for next year, and I came across one post with this phrase in it. "We just started a new company and need someone who is flexible and does not prorate." Does anyone know what 'prorate' means in this case?
In this case it sounds like they don't want to have to guarrantee you/a nanny a set schedule of hours, and that they don't want to pay you for hours that they decided they won't need you.
What workingmom said. Basically, they don't want to pay you in advance or salary--they want to pay you by the hour and want to pay after the work is done, so they don't have to pay for hours you didn't work.
