Hey! I'm in a really stressful Nanny job right now...even the best ones have their stressful-Hell days. As someone who is a ft nanny as well as ft student, I have VERY limited time to myself. How can I unwind and destress quickly? How do all the other nannys unwind and drestress quickly and cheaply so that they can make the best of their time off? Stress is so corrosive! Help!

I watch some TV, talk to friends and family about work (if I need to rant) and about other things too. I make bracelets and listen to music. Sometimes I read until I fall asleep. Sometimes going for a walk can help clear your mind. Sorry you are so stressed!
I recommend yoga. Most places offer an introductory period of one week or 10 days for cheap. I know it might seem expensive, but that is my favorite way to relax and de-stress after a long day of work because I am forced to concentrate on myself and only myself.
If you don't already do so, start exercising. Even if you feel like you're too tired, once you get used to it, you will find it energizing. Also, since you spend all day with kids, make time to see adult friends and discuss adult topics. At the same time, make sure you have a person you can call at the end of a stressful day and say, guess what crazy thing happened at work today.
Drink.
Okay, I don't usually drink during the week unless it's a beer or a glass of wine with dinner, but I always spend one night on the weekends having drinks with friends. It gets all my crazy out (I'm young, I have a lot of crazy left in me) for the new week.
Hot showers or baths are great too. Shower in the evening and take your time with it instead of in the morning when you're trying to watch the clock for work.
Get an amazing boyfriend :)
SEX find yourself an amazing boy toy and have fun all night long!
Okay, yoga is a great idea. I learned it while I was pregnant, and also (amazingly) learned some new moves from the Wii Fit! One called Warrior (I think) is AMAZING to de-stress. It mostly involves stretching, but the purposeful, deep breathing is a huge part of it too! You don't have to take a class, I'm sure there are instructions online, probably videos too (which would be the best way to learn). Or you can get a book and/or video from the library. Extremely cheap and extremely effective. Oh and follow with a glass of merlot......;)
Yoga, music, I love to scrapbook, walks with my new puppy (and my husband)- find things that you like to do. Massages and getting pampered for a day (nails and /or hair) is also great.
Having a stressful-job can also be very rewarding. Keep up the good work!
we are here for you! If a day goes crazy come on here and tell us about it! We will give you support/advice etc
Amen Sharon!! This blog has been a great de-stress-er for me since I do not have any Nanny friends to vent to or ask for advice.
OP, have you tried taking ballet? Your local community college may offer a beginning class and it is much cheaper than paying a professional. I am currently taking a ballet class at my local Jr. college for only $25!! It is relaxing as we have a pianist who plays the music while the teacher teaches us different body movement/positioning techniques. I have taken Yoga and personally, I prefer ballet.
Don't worry, there is no standing on your toes stuff or heavy leaps. LOL.
smoke chronic
Yoga exercise are best,
see some funny movie's . it may help full.
Do not listen to Phoenix. That is crazy advice..unless you have a medical condition. LOL. In the state where I live (CA) it is legal if you have a Dr's note saying you have a medical condition. Then you are free to go to the many pot stores around here and buy what you need. Wow....my state is so fu#@ed up.....sigh.
I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, SEX IS THE BEST MEDICINE FOR STRESS.
Yes Calinanny, we get that. ;)
But believe it or not there are OTHER ways to relieve stress.
I like the ballet idea.
Ballet is a wonderful way to relax and unwind. I do it every day.
EFT or TAT (also very important life tools), yoga, meditation.
