Tuesday, December 15 at 10:30 am. Nanny is Latina, middle aged. Short, reddish hair. Wearing a pink sweater. With two kids, girl between 3-4 with blond hair in ponytail. Girl is wearing pink cableknit sweater and jeans. Boy around 18 months, possibly 2. Wearing navy shirt and jeans, in a navy/green Maclaren. Boy has been strapped in stroller the entire time. He's been sobbing. His name is Jackson. Nanny has smacked him twice that I have seen. I have a fuzzy camera phone picture I can provide.

You had a phone and used it to take pictures- why not to phone the police? Jeez louise, lady- you see someone hitting a kid, you need to dial 911. For that kid, that's a true emergency.
Jenifer- Call the police? Are you crazy? While I do hope the parents see this post and are outraged, I do not think the nanny had the responsibility to call the police. How do you know the parents don't condone this behavior? Are you telling me that YOU call the police every time you see a child being smacked in public? You must not live in a big city. How would she keep the woman around till the police showed up?
Jennifer-do you live in NYC? do you have any idea how long it takes a police person to respond to something like this? DO you realize that you never know who has a knife, gun? What about the possibility that they leave the store before someone shows up? Does the OP now have to follow them?
I have reported someone breaking into a payphone in Manhattan (about 10 blocks from that Barnes and Noble in the post) and the police didn't show up after 10 minutes, while i sat there with a baby in a stroller trying not to look like I was watching him. I gave up and left.
The reason I rarely post is because of people like you, who flame others, thinking you know better than anyone, what to have done in the situation. Think twice before you post like that, please.

Good post- very sad situation. I am forwarding and hope others are too. What a cruel, lazy sack of an excuse for a human being, picking on a baby. In today's economy, she could be replaced instantly and hopefully will be.
Victoria Ann and Annoyed- You could at least try to call the police. I suspect they would respond much quicker to a 18 month old being smacked repeatedly by a nanny than a payphone being ripped off, as it is a violent act. You would not have to tell the nanny you called.....

This is so sad. Look at the little guy trying to get out of the stroller. Imagine having to sit all alone strapped in a stroller, completely bored, with all of the exciting books to look at just out of his reach...and while his sister is free to enjoy herself. And she hit him twice. That's unforgivable. If this were my son, I would be heartbroken to see this photo and post...but also so grateful to at least find out how she treated him so that I could get rid of her TODAY.
I cannot stress how much good these witnesses are doing when they submit a sighting, especially if they are able to submit a picture. A photo elevates it to a whole different level of recognition. Many thanks to this poster.
