Ok, let me get this straight: it's called "Nannypalooza!" and there isn't even ONE BAND playing?
That makes no sense.
Yeah, all you idiots and immature people in one room.
That's harsh. I'm not an idiot. A Palooza has to have bands. It has to. Otherwise it's just a Looza, not a Palooza.
Word.
LOL
Takes me back to the sex and the city episode where Miranda is saying Magda "is at nannypalooza or something!". I never knew such a thing existed. Though, I could never tell anyone I was attending the thing with a straight face lolllll. Such a funny name.
Are the Wiggles going to make a surprise appearance?
I highly doubt the Wiggles are going to be there. But if they were, I'd be the first on line, I can tell you that. Anthony Wiggle is one fine piece of Australian a**.
"A Palooza has to have bands. It has to. Otherwise it's just a Looza, not a Palooza."
Umass, you are priceless!
I wonder who goes to this and what goes on. Can you imagine telling your friends that aren't nannies why you're going to Philidelphia? "I'm just going to this thing called Nannypalooza, nothing out of the oridnary."
If you've been before let us know!
Jane, thanks for posting this info!
Nannypalooza is a great casual business conference for nannies. I'll be attending for the 3rd year, myself!
As for bands, sorry, nothing but bands of nannies umass!
NP is a great conference. Lots of fun, networking, great workshops. Yep, I get a few odd looks from non-nanny friends, but I figure they're just jealous. All their conferences involve things like "Mainstreaming global networks to best service local clientelle", and they have to wear pantyhose 18 hours a day.
LOL, good for you Chick!
I hope you have a blast!
I to have been to Nannypalooza in the past and loved every minute of it. Not only did the workshops help me, but I got to meet more great nannies which was an amazing experience. I just found my folder today with all of the information I managed to gather last year and re-read everything and got a new perspective on a situation that I didn't remember. While I won't be going this year because I will be particpating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, I'm still going to support this years conference and miss it greatly.
Id like to attend. Do you think it would be nervy of me to ask my boss to fund my trip though?
NYCnanny
Couldn't hurt to ask, all they would say is no, right?
Just make it sound like the trip is fundamental to your job.
NYC Nanny-
There is a form on the NANC/NannyPalooza website that has info. to present to your employer in regards to asking them to sponsor you.
Here is the link:

There are also "scholorships" available to those who need assistance with the conference fees.
If anyone would like info. on the scholarship visit this link:

I've attended both years-an loved it!
If you are passionate about the nanny profession- you should attend. Last year there were over 100 nannies there.
The Hotel is very nice, the workshops are informative, the food is good, and the price of $75 is very affordable.
I guarentee you will enjoy it!
When I worked in daycare, I used to go the the Early Childcare conferences. They were pretty great (no bands, but still good) and my employer always paid for it.
May I suggest to the nannies on this board that you ask your employers to pay all or half: I'll bet they would go for it, since it is, after all, professional development.
I figured I would just ask if it was nervy to see what everyone else did? I will ask them soon and give them the sheet . I would hope they would encourage me to go and pay for it since this benefits them!!!! Its just if I have to pay for hotel, the conference of $75 and also transportation that will be quite expensive. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I definately plan on attending.
Nanny Pollooza?
The name makes it sound like it's huge and come to find out only 100 nannies attended? I could spit my coffee out on the corner and unintentionally spray 18 nannies with coffee.
Obviously, this is not a very popular event. And anything that has the backing of the scheister agencies cannot be good!
vd,
I don't think that's true. Many things that are not popular are quite good. Two examples being Aquaman, and my blog.
p.s. Do you know your handle is "VD?"
Your blog is not popular because it contains objectionable material and therefore is not accessible from many of the blogger banks. It likely would not show up as a "next blog".
Also, your blog reeks of the things that appeal to effeminate men who wear emo jeans and work for techy companies. That's your niche. While I enjoy your comments, I think you should post comments on those sort of blogs so your peers can return to you.
VD
I think I would fire my nanny should she
a) request time off to attend nannypollooza
b) request financial backing to attend nannypollooza
c) be in my presence wearing any sort of nannypollooza merchandise.
d) say the word nannypollooza in my home.
vd,
sorry, I like this blog.
But rock on with your bad self, chief!
12:26,
While the name of the event is questionable, (I still say they should have at least one band) why would you not support your nanny's professional development? That seems a bit foolish.
If my Nanny were to ask me for the Finances, I would be o.k. with it. I mean really, what could it hurt? She would enjoy the company of her peers, learn something informative, and she wouldn't be the only to benefit from it.
I don't see anything so wrong with it.
And 100 Nannies was last years attendance .... every year it grows. Maybe this year 200 will show up.
Wow- flights from mpls to the palooza... $625! Not worth it for me.
This is the biggest bunch of bunk and bullshit I have ever come across. I visited their page and came to a page with this entry, "NANC Blog
Perhaps you’ve heard of online blogs created to report on “bad nanny” sightings. These blogs are getting lots of press. A blog is an online journal and they are read by thousands of people everyday. We at NANC want to celebrate some good nanny experiences. We created the NANC blog. This blog is a chance for your voice to be heard. We have been posting positive nanny stories and want to share your good stories as well. Do you have a story about one of your charges? Do you have a great employer story? What do you have to say about being in the best profession in the world! Contact Sue at Suedowneypa@aol.com and offer to write an entry on our blog. And keep checking back to find some uplifting ideas, answers for questions and just good stories about nannies. "
But there are no good nanny sightings anywhere. Bad nanny sightings and good nanny sightings, isn't that, oh I don't know an ISYN thing?
Just look at the web design of their blog. They have hacked logos from other people. The logo in the upper left hand corner of a mom/nanny and child belongs to another society, NOT them.
Why would anyone go to this nanny pallooza thing? Why does the nanny palooza suggest that Nanny Pallooza rocks? How does it rock?
This thing is supported by vendors?
Right. My husband the pharmacist goes to the same kind of weekends. Everything is paid for, a luxury suite. All he has to do is take some samples of this ointment and that antibiotic.
This is just shameful. What's next?
Day Laborers of Brewster Pallooza?
vd, huge is relative. How many nannies do you know? How many of those nannies care enough about improving themselves to pay for a conference, lodging, and travel? How many MORE nannies would take the opportunity the 2nd or 3rd year it was offered?
IMO, if you want huge and agency controlled, go to the INA conference. It costs a whole lot more, and it's a whole lot stuffier, but I am sure LOTS of people attend.
12:26,
Helaine? Is that you?
I am sure your "girls" would never ever tell you if they went to Nannypalooza. See, I am sure they know you're a snob!
So don't worry. I am sure you won't have to go thru that torturous interview process and scrub fitting process anytime soon.
4:42, I would try to reason with you, but it's ever so clear your mind is not just closed, it's boarded up and completely blacked out.
P.S. Would you be so kind as to explain why Nannypalooza is "shameful"?
I've been to the INA Conferences too- actually they are NOT that big- last year it was about 100 total- mostly agencies and approx. 25 nannies.
VD-
Where is all this negativity coming from?
what is your involvement in the nanny profession?
Have you ever been to a nanny conference?
What has been your dealings with the agencies that are associated with NannyPalooza that makes you say they are "scheisters"?
Meaning of "Palooza"-
~party/nonstop fun~
Meaning of "Looza"
~something very striking or exceptional.~
Having attended both years-
I can speak from first hand experience and say "NannyPalooza" accurately describes this event.
Another way to insure you have funds for attending nanny conferences is to have it written into your family/nanny work agreement-
Family agrees to contribute $_____each year for nanny's continuing education. (attendance to nanny/childcare conferenes/seminars/workshops.
Good idea, 10:00!
So H,(Heliene?) you don't want your nanny, or girl as you call her, to learn too much huh? She might become uppity?
LMAO 100 people attend? That's pathetic!
In an area with excellent public transportation access, where there are literally thousands of nannies, they should get way more than
100. Sounds like a big waste of time to me!
So the only reason you'd NOT go is because there are usually about 100 nannies? (Note this is the 3rd year of NannyPalooza- it takes a while to spread the word.)
There are loads of "people" who call themselves nannies- if you really want to meet "nannies" then you should come. I am sure you'll be blown away at the professionalism of the conference and all the things you will learn.
When you factor in a plane ticket, and hotel, it is quite expensive even for nannies at the high end of the pay scale. I think that is keeping attendance down.
And the real reason many don't attend- they're too busy taking care of your brats. Or too tired from doing so.
If I had a weekend off, the last place I'd want to be is surrounded by other nannies who needed their ego bolstered and to hear how wonderful they are...
Boooo...
And these scam nanny agencies really should pay for everything. Don't you realize that you palooza nannies are the beacons of their company? No one would ever use a nanny agency unless they thought they could get one of you. I am sure you are all nice, smart, loving nannies, but come on- don't let these agencies use you as part of their marketing scheme.
get something back.
at the very least they should comp your rooms.
