Bench Opposite the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, NYC

Recieved Tuesday, February 26, 2008
It was too cold to be sleeping-you would think. But that did not stop this nanny in charge of a child nestled in a stroller from dozing off at around 2 PM yesterday, (2/25). The stroller was a Perego that had black, red, white and grey in it. The child had a mint green blanket around him (or her?). The nanny was heavyset, medium height, maybe 50 years old, hair was brownish and looked like it had been set on rollers and not combed out. The child was Caucasian, the nanny African American. The nanny drifted off for about 10-15 minutes.

whoa WTFFFFFFFFFFF? If you can't spend the money to hire a REAL nanny who will take EXCELLENT care of your child then frankly you shouldn't have had children!

Shame on the nanny and double on the parents!

I agree, I'm pretty sick of the whole thing. When you have children you are supposed to be responsible for their health, safety and happiness. If you cannot (or choose not to) be home with them then you should be ensuring they are getting the very best of care. When you hire a lazy, ignorant, often illegal person off the street to "care" for your children, you get what you pay for. So in that sense, these parents are well aware that their child is not in the best hands and are ok with that.

I'm not sure that the 2 above posters truly understand the purpose of this site.

Some people are just mean and heartless...I am well aware that Manhattan parents pays their nannies pretty OK. However there are always two sides of a story, I am also aware of the mothers who hire nannies and want to get involved in their work, forcing them to leave their place of employment to hit the streets with their children. When you hire a nanny, let them do what they specialize in. You would be doing yourself a favor, your baby a favor and the nanny a favor. In the end everyone would be happy and your nanny wouldn't be outside in the cold taking a nap. She would be inside taking a nap along with her charge. A nap never hurt anyone. Everyone is tired!!! And don't anyone dare say you don't pay her for sleeping...she is taking care of your baby!! She needs to re cooperate while the baby is re cooperating. That is the only way she could do an excellent job with your child. So might as well let her do it inside. It dosen't make sense she is taking care of YOUR baby tired and worn out because you are in her way and she has to roam the streets to get away from you.

True, whats wrong with naps. I think everyone should get downtime. Of course, not outside with the baby in stroller. But if your inside house whats the problem?

As a nanny I sometimes nap if my charge is asleep. ONLY when my charge is napping. When a 2 year old is teething, with a double ear infection and I have walked the floor for 2 hours to get them to sleep, I just might steal a 20 minute catnap!

I used to work for a woman who worked from home. never again! If she had a conference call I had to beat it out of the house. Regardless of the weather. Pouring, freezing, blazing hot! Her solution was to buy a plastic cover to put over the stroller and baby. It was grueling.

I am curious as to why the first two posters assumed the nanny was illegal. Because her hair had been set in rollers? Because she was black? Because she was fat? Because she was napping? What gives?

Maybe the mom she worked for forced her out of the house. You know so the mom could nap or have sex with the cable guy. Why else is nanny out?

because it seems like that is what MOST people hire in NYC? All this b*tching about these horrid "nannies" when as I see it, the problem lies with those who CHOOSE to hire uneducated, inexperienced and often even illegal care providers and then have the nerve to blame the idiot they hired.
