Thursday

River Run Park on the UWS of Manhattan

Received Thursday, August 9, 2007
This incident occurred Wednesday, (8/8). Your children are twin boys, approx 18 mos old with brown curly, slightly longish hair. They were wearing orange and aqua (blue?) wet suits and were tended by an AA nanny wearing jeans and a striped polo shirt (green and blue hues). I believe one child was named Roman but I am not sure. Your nanny just sat on a bench chatting with two other nannies (one of whom had a child in a navy blue Bug) and never once got up to tend to your boys. They weren't in danger per se but there were many older kids running around wildly and your boys certainly wandered out of her range of sight. That's when she'd start shouting "Roman (or whatever it was)" to call them back. There is also an old planter in the park that is filled with filthy, muddy water (enough in which a child could drown) which your boys were attracted to. Again, your nanny would just sit there, and when the notion struck her, look up and try to locate them. When she didn't see them she'd start shouting again. I know this isn't neglect per se but it is a very unsafe situation for such young children. The only time she got up from the bench was to get the kids so she could get home with them - presumably so she could end her working day.

Yeah, in NY it's only called neglect when a child DIES.

I would definitely call it neglect without a doubt.

I would also call it an over-use of the phrase "per se," but thats' a different story!

Originator - I realized that (rampant use of per se) only after submitting. Hardly the point, however.

Lighten up...I was kidding.

As was I. Per se per se per se. Excellent restaurant by the way.

What a per-se-flage of what you deserve for not caring yourself...

I was dragged to per voi last weekend. shockingly fine cuisine and pleasant atmosphere.

So you know how many babies drown in buckets of mop water? Keep your eyes on the children or get another job, you know one where someone's life does not depend on you.

3:32 whats with the "girlfriends" crap? is it because the nanny is AA?

and OP what were YOUR kids doing while you were watching this nanny, her friend and her boys? i mean i wouldnt say you were neglecting your own kids per se, but it sounds like you need to be minding your own business.

332-
Yikes, I just saw you on Urban B.
What is your damage?
Angry nanny?

Ah yes, it wouldn't be the ISYN blog if someone didn't accuse the OP of neglecting her own children/charges while witnessing a lazy nanny.

Why do people think that you can't see what is going on around you while still keeping an eye out for your own?

It's called denial 743. There are those that cannot see the forest for the trees and refuse to believe someone can post something simply for the welfare of a child or children with honesty and the desire for a child to be helped.

I can't believe I am dignifying 3:32 with a response but I shall. My child is 4 years old and needs considerably less monitoring than an 18 month old (at BEST these children were that old). Now, I suggest that instead of accusing me of being parent, you should perhaps move on and realize that I did this in the interest of the children that were being neglected.

3:32, unless YOU are Black, that snotty little "girlfriends" comment was out of line.
ONCE AGAIN, this has NOTHING to do with the nanny's race!!! It has to do with the fact that the nanny is not doing her job and should be replaced by someone who will.
Now if everyone will please put away your personal bigotries, perhaps we can get back to the subject at hand---keeping children safe.

I was going to respond, but you said it all 4:18...Well said...I completely agree with you!

On a side note, as if the child abuse I read on this site is not enough...(oddly) this site has also opened my eyes to the amount of racism which still exists today in our *ehem* modern society...sad, very sad!

Indeed!
