Houston article on a Nanny Service Accused of Faking References

Received Friday, December 1, 2006
This is a link to a story that our local KPRC in Houston aired Wednesday on a nanny agency that helped candidates fake their references. (Click here)
I thought this would be of interest to parents.

Thank you for posting that! Also as an FYI to parents, many CPR certifications obtained through nanny agencies, are done online. There is no "hands on" training with mannequins(which is so important in an emergency situation). Always ask for American Heart or Red Cross certification...it makes a difference!!

done online? I would have never thought that. That is very frightening! My advice is to remember that not only are there calibers of nannies, but calibers of nanny agencies. You get what you pay for.

this is y i wont give my references till i meet the parent in person. i had someone who was looking for a nanny only need references. i called and she asked for mine, so i gave them. she told me she will check and call me back in a few days. a few days later one of my references called me asking about my NEW job, i was what new job. she said someone called and was gonna hire me and was checking my reference. anyway, she gave me the ladys number and she said she hired me, so i asked her what she looked like knowing it wasnt me. anyway, i told her the person is a phoney. anyway, when the phoney came to work, she asked her if she had id because her husband asked her too ask her for it. she said no, but she said she can go home and get it, so she left and never came back...so now when i call about a job, i refuse to give my references unless i meet the parent first.
