57th and Seventh - NYC

Received Wednesday, September 30, 2009
nanny sighting logo If your approximately 4 year old boy with fair complexion, medium brown hair cut longer in front and navy blue jacket with white writing on right back was on 57th and Seventh Tuesday Sept. 29th at 4:30 PM with his caretaker, an older African American woman with graying black straight hair in a six inch low ponytail, wearing a brown jacket, pants and open back low shoes, when your child was inattentive to her she threatened to give him a smack and he immediately responded by following her with several feet of space between them. I think you have a problem.

Dinosaur Park in NYC

nanny sighting logo Yes i saw a really bad nanny. She scared me with her violent eyes. She was smooth complected with the eyes of the devil, dark and squinty, her complexion was like cinnamon fire and she dressed like a nurse in scrubs. Her scrub top had roses on it and her scrub pants were pink. She wore a brand of shoe called Quarks, they are famous with them nurses. She had a child of 2 in her care. The girl was petite, with brown hair, blue eyes and had a bad haircut. I was thinking when i saw the child that some other kid cut her hair or she lurched when she was getting her cut. Still she was an angel and did not deserve the message of the beast. The beast woman was about 6 foot tall, many racial with strong proud chest and sturdy legs. Her shoes looked big and her ankles were strong. She carried no bag but a set of keys on a rope keychain which she held in her hand. The child, oh the sweet child. The sweet child kept asking for raisins. Not candies or soda or love. Just raisins. The lady got up and threw the box in the garbage and said "no more" her voice was mean and scathing. This made the baby cry. What did this woman do now to that poor little child? She grabbed that tiny child's face and put a massive hand on her face and on one side poked a finger threw each of her cheeks. This made the child make a fish face, she was squeezing that precious child so hard. The baby starts to squeal now. I said, "hey, hey, hey" and walked toward her and the lady turned and glared at me, removed her hands from that baby and walked on her way. She was pushing a pretty distinct stroller. It had a green canopy that was a thick canvas, appearing more like lawn chair fabric than stroller fabric, and the body of the stroller had over-sized joints. The child and nanny took off heading out of dinosaur park in nyc. I feel i should have chased her but alas i have myself a bum leg.

St. Catherine's playground on the UES - Manhattan

Monday, September 28, 2009
nanny sighting logo Date: Today, Monday Sept 28th (yom kippur) around 11am-noon. I go to St. Catherine's playground on the UES of Manhattan (1st ave @ 67th St.) and see bad nannies all the time. Today I was pushing my son on the infant swings and a nanny was next to us pushing a girl, but of course she was on her phone the entire time like a robot, not interacting with the girl at all. She didn't even make eye contact with her. The little girl began speaking to me, so adorable. Her name is Maddie, she's 3 years old and her birthday is in November. If you know this girl's parents please tell them their nanny basically ignores Maddie and should be fired.

Is Nanny's On-The-Job Napping Negligent?

Monday, September 28, 2009
Perspective and Opinion on ISYN Our nanny works from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The children go down for a nap around 1:00 and sleep until at least 3:00, but are often still asleep when she finishes work. She has a one-hour lunch break and does a bit of tidying (lunch things, puts toys away) and occasionally a bit of lunch prep for the next day. This still leaves her with a very long break and she will often have a nap. Does this seem ok? I think she is always up before the kids and/or hears them when they wake, though yesterday my husband came home early and she didn't hear him come in, which is a bit worrying (I work from home but am generally in my office at the top of the house with the door closed). So, is napping 'on the job' acceptable for a nanny when the kids are asleep too? Thanks!

Should I Mind My Own Business?

Monday, September 28, 2009
Perspective and Opinion on ISYN I recently started babysitting for this family with 4.5 year old twin and 6 year old girls. The other night I was putting the twins to bed and they both flipped on their back, put a hand down their pajama pants and started to "play with themselves" and breath heavily. A little embarrassed, I asked them what they were doing and they both responded that it helped them go to sleep because it felt good. I know they were on their backs, but it was very clear what they were doing. I've been babysitting for almost 15 years and I've never had a child do this. I'm a bit embarrassed and unsure if its normal or if its something I should bring to the parents attention. I'm sure the parents have noticed this since they put them to bed most nights, and perhaps they are fine with their twins doing this and exploring their own bodies. I'm just not sure if I should address it with them, tell the girls not to do that, or just mind my own business? Any opinions or anyone who had dealt with this would be greatly welcomed. Thanks!!

Woman Jailed for Dragging Kid on Leash - Alabama
Melissa made headlines when she was caught on tape dragging her 4-year-old son, Riley, through a Verizon store on a monkey backpack leash. The video was uploaded to YouTube and sparked heated online debates about parenting and discipline.

In her first national television appearance, Melissa joins the Dr. Phil Show via satellite with her attorney, Wade Hoyt, and her mother, Nancy and tells her side of the story.

What is your opinion after hearing Melissa's side of the story?

Innocent Bath-Time Photos Get Kids Taken Away From Parents - Arizona
Apparently, some photo-clerk vigilante, diligently on the lookout for child pornography, saw photos of kids during bath time and decided to call the cops. Next thing the parents of these kids knew, the children were removed from their home for an entire month. Mom got suspended from her job for a year and both -- Anthony and Lisa Demaree -- were added to a list of sex offenders. The judge in the case said the pix were harmless.

"I don't understand it at all," Anthony Demaree told GMA, with his wife by his side. "Ninety, 95 percent of the families out there in America have these exact same photos." Now they've got another shot to take. This time it's directed at Wal-Mart and their hometown.

"Don't You Just Love Your [Insert Ethnicity] Nanny?" (Jezebel)
"When $800 strollers hit the market a few years ago, it looked as if baby status symbols had reached a new odd, capitalist apex. Now[...] primo credentials trade in a different kind of capital: nannies." Specifically, the brown-skinned kind...

MPP & Jane are both dealing with chaos on the homefront. The amount of time we have to dedicate to the blog is temporarily limited, but we still need those nanny sightings!

Women Rally Around Widower to Breast-Feed Infant Son - Michigan
Just six months ago, Robbie and Susan Goodrich of Marquette, Mich., were expecting their second child. Now Robbie Goodrich is the single father of two young children as he mourns the death of his wife while some two dozen women visit his house in shifts to breast-feed his infant son.

He and his wife were professors at Northern Michigan University. He taught history, and she taught modern languages and literature. Susan Goodrich died Jan. 11 from an amniotic fluid embolism after giving birth to their son, Charles Moses Martin Goodrich (called simply Moses).

Both Goodrich and his wife were strong advocates of breast-feeding. Laura Janowski, a family friend who was already nursing her own 4-month-old daughter, asked if he would like her to breast-feed Moses as well. Almost instinctively, Goodrich said, he answered yes.

His story spread quickly. Susan Goodrich's best friend, Nicoletta Fraire, took charge of organizing the team. Now some 25 women drop by the house to either nurse Moses personally or provide pumped breast milk. They've become a community. (continued)

Good and bad nanny sighting on the UWS in NYC

Received Sunday, September 20, 2009
nanny sighting logo UWS, two nannies in the same area, around a sunglasses shop near 90th and Amsterdam (can't remember the exact streets at the moment). A younger black woman, cute in the face, somewhat thick, glasses and cornrows, standing outside rocking two little boys around 2-ish (twins?), blonde hair. The boys were screaming for mommy, who I can only guess was in the shop, and she pretty much rocked them, gave them lots of affection and stopped their quabbles using distractions with other toys, as well as rolling the stroller around to try to soothe them.

The other nanny didn't come until later, after a little Asian girl with a large cut on her lip walked up and started talking to the first nanny. The nanny was really sweet to her, and (logically) asked her if she was waiting for someone (since her nanny was about 5-7 feet away yapping). Another black woman, Caribbean accent, thick as well. She left your sweet little girl (short black hair) to talk to (albeit kind) strangers and then dragged her off by one arm down the block rudely. The girl seemed maybe 6-8 years old.

To the first, you have a frigging brilliant nanny.

To the second...argh. Nanny cam

Is this for real? This is the ad posted:
I'm a Single-Father in search of a lady who is willing to be an in-home Nanny. I have a 5 year old little girl, and a 8 year old little girl. I'm in the military, and also run a business so I'm not home a good majority of the time. If you are a student, or you are involved in some type of activity or venture which requires you to be flexible with your time, then this is the job for you. You'll be living in a beautiful home with all expenses paid. All you have to worry about is helping with child-care. Also, I'm single, 28 years old, and a grown man. So, I ask that you be between the ages of 24-34, beautiful, not crazy or deranged, and single. Like I said, I'm a grown man and we will be living under the same roof, so who knows what will happen. So, if you are interested or have questions, please email me at the above address. We will then set up a time to meet, and see how things go. Thank you...

I don't know if this man is serious or just perverted but this sounds like something bad waiting to happen. As a parent and provider...I would NOT advise anyone to respond to this? What does being between the ages of 24 and 34 and beautiful have to do with taking good care of your children? Yeah, right...sounds like a crazy pervert to me. And what does he mean, since he and the woman would be living under the same roof, "who knows what will happen"???? I'm flagging! Original URL: http://norfolk.craigslist.org/kid/1380444265.html

Do you have a russian nanny that hangs out at the Magic Bean in Brookline, MA?

Received Friday, September 18, 2009
nanny sighting logo The child's first name is Andrew. Your nanny does not bother to get up when your child falls, or is rough with other children. The most she will do is yell at him in russian, from her chair. Today he tried to gouge out the eyes of the little boy I was watching. Your nanny just sat there. I'm sure your boy is very sweet - he is just young, and needs to be taught not to do these things. Please get a nanny that will interact with your child when needed.

I would have fired her before all of this accumulated...

Received Friday, September 18, 2009 - Rants and Warnings
I am writing to report a nanny whom I just fired. Her name is Breanne and she is posting herself on www.nannies4hire.com as a nanny available in NYC. Her profile is http://www.nannies4hire.com/view.asp?class=nanny&id=354168 and you can also see her photo there. She was fired for the following reasons:

1. After only three days of caring for my child alone (she was either with me or my former nanny for three weeks in order to train), Breanne left my child alone in a bathtub for an extended period of time. My child subsequently fell and received 6 stitches on her chin.
2. drinking at night while I was not home (wine was missing and I found an empty vodka bottle in her room)
3. smoking during the day despite saying she is a non-smoker
4. my housekeeper came to the house one morning and found my child alone in my bedroom with the door closed, still in pajamas and hungry for breakfast. It was 10 a.m.
5. In addition to the empty vodka bottle, I found receipts in her room that indicate that she was engaging in personal activities such as manicures and shopping while my daughter was in her care, a book called How to Make Love Like a Porn Star by Jenna Jameson, a vibrator, dirty men's underwear, and pregnancy tests.

Breanne is not fit to be a nanny or to have anyone's child in her care. She is irresponsible, she uses drugs and drinks to excess, and does not have the child's best interests in mind

Nanny with 15 years of experience in disciplining children. I am stern but loving. Do you have a child who likes to say no a lot? Do you have a tween, who likes to talk back? Fear not! I don't use belts for discipline, nor do I leave any marks. I specialize into turning toddlers into respectful tweens, and teens you've always dreamed of. I have glowing reviews from satisfied parents. Don't missunderstand, I am a loving and caring nanny. My rates are negotiable starting at $17 an hour, $1.50 for each additional child. Don't delay, interviews are granted on a first come, first serve basis :)

NOTE***
If you don't believe in physical discipline, I am not the nanny for you. I don't leave marks, or anything like that. I'm not into harsh beatings. Before you hire me, I would like you to sign a waiver saying that you give up the right to sue me, and you giving me permission to discipline your child in an appropriate manner.

Children Museum of Manhattan - NY

Received Friday, September 11, 2009
nanny sighting logo 9/11/2009 Nanny: AA, about 5'3/5'4", wearing jeans, at the Children Museum of Manhattan with a white boy, around 12-18 months. She my have been an islander. I didn't know about this website, so I didn't take more details. We saw her in one of the small "buses" by the stairway. She sat on the drivers' side and had the boy stuck between her and the wall. She was on the phone when we arrived, around 1:15/1:30. We passed the spot about three times, the last at 2:45 p.m. and she was still on the phone and the poor boy was there, just holding on the wheel and watching her. He had no playtime. She'll go home and tell his parents that she took him to CMOM and they will feel so happy. I was so upset that I told someone who told me about this website. The boy was so sad, it broke my heart. Now that I know about his website, I'll pay more attention to descriptive details. Maybe even take a pic with my phone camera...

Budgeting and the Beloved Nanny

Received Friday, September 11, 2009
Perspective and Opinion on ISYN My wife and I have a wonderful Nanny who has been looking after our 6 month old, 50 hours per week, for the last 3 months. We all live in NYC, however her commute to our apartment is an hour long subway ride. A few weeks ago we had our 1st night on the town since the birth of our son (woo hoo) and we naturally asked our Nanny if she would like to do some overtime. Well long story short, we ended up staying out much later than we anticipated. Our Nanny was happy to stay later, but we didn’t feel right about her riding the subway home at that hour so we paid for a car service to take her home. Between the overtime hours, buying her dinner and the car service we spent about $160. Add our own drinks, dinner and a cab home and we were over $320 for the night (ouch). We, like so many families at this time, are struggling financially and our Nanny is working below market rate with the understanding that we will raise her salary as soon as we can afford it. Here’s our dilemma; my wife’s birthday is coming up and we’re going out again (I know, twice in 6 months!). We would love to have our Nanny work some more overtime but we certainly can’t afford another $160 baby sitting expense, especially when we can have one of the trusted teenage babysitters in our building do it for around $30. But we feel like we’re ‘cheating’ on our Nanny by using someone else, and I’m sure she could use the extra money. Obviously we need to discuss this with her however, I’m fairly sure she will argue that she is fine taking the train home late and not having us provide her dinner. So on the one hand we would feel like we’re ‘cheating’ on her by using the cheaper option, on the other hand we would feel like we’re underpaying her, starving her and causing her to take a long ride home on the subway at night. What’s a new, guilt racked, inexperienced, broke-ass parent to do?

Winter Playground in Nyack, NY

Received Thursday, September 10, 2009
nanny sighting logo I saw the worst nanny ever! Oh my God. She was wearing tight blue jeans, a tight blue t-shirt (meant to be worn tight). She was AA with a ponytail, real short and like kind of frizzy. She had a boy who was older, like maybe 5? He was white and dressed in a white polo with short sleeves and a pair of navy blue docker type pants. The boy was like "my mom said I could play here before i go home" and the nanny was like, "shut your mouth" and the boy repeated it again and the nanny said, "ya and your mom is batshit crazy". So this isn't quite all of it, right. The nanny had just arrived to the park. Literally, arrived. She had a mcdonald's drink in her hand. The boy runs off to get on some equiptment and she doesn't sit down or anything. She stand there. I kid you not, maybe 60 seconds later she goes, "we need to go". I heard her say a name when she first off called him, but at that point I was further away. The name was definitely unusual. I want to say it was "Connor". This tells me based on what I observed that she told someone she was taking him to the park. She seemed like a sneaky nanny type. Who takes a kid to the park for a minute? Is it so she could say they were at the park? That is what I am guessing.

Received Wednesday, September 9, 2009
nanny sighting logo A girl about 2 years old with a West Indian nanny in her 40s? wearing a bright turquoise shirt. The nanny spent at least an hour there talking to a friend, while the girl wandered around the store, dropping pretzels from her bag and then picking them up off the floor and eating them, and also picking up other pieces of food she found. Final straw was when nanny started clipping her nails while talking to her friend, onto the floor of the store. Really gross.

Park in Beford/Katonah area - NY

Received Monday, September 7, 2009
nanny sighting logo I saw a really raunchy nanny today. I know what she was doing was behind the parents back. That behavior would raise eyebrows in a club, so it surely caught my attention in a park. First let me say that the witness to this all was one child, a boy about 2. He was wearing a pastel block print overall set with a white t shirt and a hat that matched the pastel block print of his overall set. He was also wearing sandals. His stroller was black metal with a green canopy and a green umbrella. The nanny was white, plump (being kind), semi attractive and dressed rather lewdly for a nanny, she had on skin tight stretch jeans, a short sleeve shirt with lace around the bust and it was low cut, very low cut for the daytime. She had blonde hair and sunglasses. Her hair was shoulder length. She had gold bangles on her arm and was wearing cork wedge sandals with a 3" heel. She was a with Puerto Rican male. I guess this because he was hispanic with an afro, stocky, well built, tatoos and he had some gold in his mouth. The two of them were making out like you wouldn't believe. When he wasn't kissing her full on the mouth and squeezing her buttocks, he was kissing, well rather making out with her chest! Where do you think all of this happend? By a gas station? By a sewer? Nope. This all happend just outside the playground at katonah park. The child was never seen on the playground. The park has a wooden fence around it, and they were just standing there going at it. At the time, only I and two other nanny types were there. She wasn't mean to the kid, but he might as well have not been there. Besides are this what you are paying your nanny for? Oh some people know the park as memorial park. It's right in the Beford/Katonah area. I am NY and this was this morning at about 10 am.

We are in search of a hearty woman who is a glutton for punishment. We have not one, but two boys who are full of action to leave you shuddering all night. To top of this wonderful entourage, we introduce, the teenager! Yes, the spawn whom will change clothes, hair, make up, boyfriends, best friends, and moods every hour on the hour. You must be willing to come to our abode and watch our spawns. You must have a car, license, excellent driving record, for you must have a way to escape if and when necessary. If you are really self loathing, we are considering a live in position also.

Spawn #1 is about 9 human years old. He will leave his lair by 8 to go scare and harrass the neighborhood teachers and kids. He will return to the lair just after 3. He will by this time be hungry and ready to devour you as soon as he walks in the door. He will feign illness to prevent from doing the work his teachers beg him to do only after they feel as if they may live after encountering him.

Spawn #2 is about 3 human years old and will gross you out as he urinates on himself only AFTER you have asked him 1000 times if he needs to go potty. This spawn will change his eating and sleeping habits hourly. He may have liked Pop Tarts yesterday morning, but they are human waste today. Spawn #2 OWNS everything. He owns the house, the cars, the toys, the televisions, me, and he will own you too. This one doesn't like to share but you must hold your ground and teach him. We will pray for your soul as you attempt this feat.

Spawn #3 doesn't really need to be watched much. This spawn is 13 human years old and you just have to let her know she has homework and check it when she is done. This spawn hates Math and struggles with it, so you must be able to do 7th grade Math!!! You will NOT do it for her, but you will help her so that she may be able to count her victims correctly.

These Spawns also have a minion. The minion barks when people come to the door to warn off intruders. The minion is medium sized and very lovable. I believe the minion may be our only hope at survival.

I am a keeper of these Spawns. In us, you will find fearing, but loyal and loving parents who want the best for our little demons. They are not perfect but we love them dearly. We hope that even you can look beyond their red eyes, horns, and tails, and learn to love them too!

Detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old who fell down a flight of stairs at a Pearland home Tuesday afternoon. The child's godmother was caring for the child at her home in the 4800 block of Meadow Glen when the toddler fell down the stairs. As medical personnel were trying to administer CPR on the child after undergoing serious medical distress, the toddler's mother became "overcome with emotion and began interfering with the child's care," according to the statement. Nanny is Overwhelmed by Mom's Anxiety Issues and Dad's Boxers

Received Thursday, September 3, 2009
Perspective and Opinion on ISYN First and foremost, I love ISYN so much! Thank you to all you nannies and parents who make this site what it is today. :)

I really need some advice. Okay here's my predicament:
I recently started a new part-time nanny position for a 2 1/2 yr old adorable little boy. Sometimes the father is there when I get there and sometimes the mother is. Anyway, the other morning the father was there and as I sat in the living room, he stepped out to say, "Good Morning" to me. Problem was, he was wearing his boxer briefs and a shirt only. A minute later, he stepped out and was buckling up his pants. Now, I know now a days showing underwear is not a big deal and maybe I am just being old-fashioned, but if it was my hubby, I would not be too happy that he greeted the nanny in his boxers. What do you guys think? Was this inappropriate?

Also, another problem. The mother has severe anxiety issues (she has told me this) and if she calls during my shift and cannot reach me IMMEDIATELY by cell or house phone, she rings again and again until I answer. If I do not answer WHEN she calls immediately, she scolds me when I finally do return the call. Case in point. I was bathing the little boy the other morning, and I do not take my cell phone in the bathroom. I guess I have heard of too many horror stories about folks dropping them into the sink, toilet, etc....and I would never think of bringing their house phone in the bathroom as well for the same reasons. Well, I was bathing the child for about 13 minutes. And Guess What??! She just happened to call me during this time frame. When I was finished, I immediately checked my phone and there were like 8 missed calls in like 10 minutes!!!! When I finally called her back, she scolded me for not answering my phone and told me in no uncertain terms....I should NEVER be away from a phone. She said I was to always be reachable. I explained I was bathing the child and it would be too dangerous for me to answer a phone anyway while doing so, but she was mad. That is when she told me about her anxiety issues. I think it is reasonable to worry after say 15 minutes or so, but there are times when I simply cannot answer the phone. This was never mentioned when I took the job by the way.

Other than these two issues, the job is working out and I interviewed for a month before I got this position so I know how tough Nanny jobs are to get due to this economy. I live in Orange County CA.

ISYN readers....please help me? Are these deal-breakers or am I over reacting?? All advice is welcomed.

Jodi's Gym on the UES - NY

nanny sighting logo
Location: Jodi's Gym on the UES in the 10:50 class
Date: Wednesday, 9/2/09
Nanny: 5'6", heavyset, black with ear length black hair. Wearing a red and white checked shirt. Might have a slight West Indian accent, that might have been her friend.
Child: Boy with short red hair, around 2yo
Incident: I have seen her multiple times with this boy. She is rough, and she tries to force him to use the equipment using a nasty voice. This happens until he cries. There is no need for this. She is really not nice at all. Other parents have noticed this too.

Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, NY

nanny sighting logo I just saw two nannies both of whom were neglecting their charges. This occurred 1/2 hour ago (approx. 1pm) at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, NY, off of Boston Post Road. The first nanny was wearing brightly colored clothes. It was a matching outfit and she had an unusual hat on, small, perhaps cultural to Africa. She had gold earings and was about 5 foot 6, 150 lbs. The second nanny was wearing blue jeans, a long sleeve white shirt, white tennis shoes, she had a silver cuff bracelet on her arm, was about 5 foot 5 and 200 lbs. The first nanny was making her charge hold an umbrella over her to protect her from the sun. This was while she searched in her big bag for something. Her charge was a boy who was maybe three years old and was begging to swing. She told him a number of times no and that he needed to play with himself that this was her break and he needed to be a big boy. She wasn't that nice about it.

The second nanny had a little boy in a stroller. He was blonde, I would guess 18 months, with very fair skin, wearing a green block print polo and black pants. This nanny had a sack of what looked like the sort of bag one would obtain to handout candy at Halloween. It was a giant bag of mini snickers. To keep the boy stilled, she just kept opening mini snickers and handing them to him. She too, was eating them. Quite a bit. That's her perogative, but the kid clearly could have walked around the playground, been put in a swing, anything. But she wanted to sit there gabbing. Both of the nannies were AA. Both of the children were caucasian. These nannies were not interested in their charges or providing them any kind of care. A sad sighting.

Nanny Negotiations at a Stalemate

Received Tuesday, September 1, 2009
Perspective and Opinion on ISYN I am an experienced nanny who moved from a full-time to part-time position in January of this year. (The reason that I went part-time is because I wanted to spend more time with my daughter.) The nannying job that I currently have is around 10 hours a week, so I am searching for a supplemental position for approximately 20 more hours per week. I found a family of an infant who seems like it will be a very good fit and we are in the process of negotiating hours, benefits, etc. We have decided on pay, hours, and other details, but we are still talking over vacation and personal days. Given my nannying experience, etc., when I am working full-time, I usually ask for 3 weeks of paid vacation/sick/personal days, as well as national holidays. In addition, I am paid for any days that the family doesn't need me, due to their vacations, family in town, etc. As a courtesy to the families that I work for, I usually try to coordinate my vacation days with theirs, so that they don't end up being in a childcare bind.

The prospective family that I am in negotiations with, gives their current nanny 1 hour per month as paid vacation/personal time in exchange for working 7 hours a week. The mother has offered me 3 hours per month of paid time off in exchange for working 18 hours per week. Although math is definitely not my strong point, I just did some quick calculations and figured out that it would amount to about 4 1/2 paid days off per year. Since the mother is self-employed, she mentioned that she would be willing to be flexible whenever I wanted to take unpaid time off. However, if they don't need me due to family visiting, etc., she either offered me to have the time off unpaid or to work different days in order to make up the lost income --- which isn't exactly ideal for me either way...I would probably have to take the days off unpaid, since my schedule wouldn't be flexible enough for me to makeup the missed work hours. (BTW, her rationale for not being able to give me more time off is that she's self-employed and so it would be cost prohibitive for her to have to pay me in addition to paying for substitute childcare.) Of course, everyone knows that times are hard right now and I know that I should consider myself lucky to have an otherwise great job offer, but the paid vs. unpaid time off issue may be a problem for me financially. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
