Borders Book Store on Broadway in NYC

This occurred Tues 5/8 at the Borders on Lower Broadway-right near Trinity Church. This happened between 4:30 and 5:15 ish. I was reading to my charge when a little girl of about 30-36 months appeared and was swaying behind my charge listening to the story. She was causing no harm. I looked around for her nanny or parent and saw no one. I continued reading. The little girl started twirling my girl's hair {playing with it between her fingers}. She is semi listening to me read, perhaps 2-4 minutes pass. Then the little girl interrupts and says, "can you take me to the bathroom?". I said, "you have to go to the bathroom?". She answered "yes". I said, "Who are you here with?" The little girl says nothing. I say, "do you need help to find your mommy?". She says, "no, not my mommy". I said, "are you here with your nanny?". She says, "No with mommy but ...{indecipherable}". I am about to offer to help her find her mom when an ashy haired woman, about 5'6 in black pants, with black pumps and a red sweater snatches the girl by the hand harshly. The woman says, "I told you not to move-why did you move?". The little girl says, "I said I have to go to the bathroom". The mother said, "You always have to go the bathroom, don't you? It never ends". The mother is now dragging the little girl away and lamenting her {in a way that is clearly inappropriate for a child so young}. The mother, {cold as ice} doesn't even glance in my direction. Never says word one to me. I felt bad for the little girl, but could do nothing more so I picked up my charge, put her on my lap and continued reading the story. Ten minutes later, we are leaving and what do I see? The same mother in the magazine section {the section with House Beautiful type magazines}. The little girl is standing right next to her not moving at all. She has the saddest look on her face and a big wet spot on the front of her little pink pants and down one thigh. The little girl had a sweet, round face, delicate curls, a white, grey and pink long sleeve shirt on and was very pretty. I hope that the little girl's FATHER or grandparents or NANNY sees this posting so they can take appropriate action. The oblivious mother's ashy hair had white looking highlights and was loosely curled. She was about 5'6" and maybe 125 lbs. The little girl was wearing white tennis shoes with a graffiti design on them.

I thought you should know I saw your nanny today at Clark Field, doting on your little boy who was about 2 yrs. of age. A very blonde little boy, with fair skin, white polo and little knee length cargo shorts. The nanny was wearing black cotton Capri's and black cotton sweatshirt, white shirt, honey colored hair that was shoulder length and crimped in style. Nanny was AA. The nanny had packed a lunch in a grocery bag for the two of them and they ate their lunch at the picnic table. This day was very much about your little boy. They left the picnic table to feed their scraps to the birds & ducks. If you are a working mom, you should know what a stellar choice you made in this nanny.

Physical description of caregiver: white female, 25-30, shoulder length, kinky brown hair, little or no make up, 3/4 length white shirt with different widths of strips in shades of grey, green handbag with gold link strap.
Physical description of involved child/children: possibly a second child, but at least one child,white, 2.5-3, short dark hair with a pink clip in it, print legging style pants and a navy fleece that buttoned like a pea coat.
Address or venue of observed incident: The 3rd Street Playground/Prospect Park
Date and time of incident: Monday 5/7; approx 10:40 AM
Detailed description of what you witnessed: nanny sitting on bench reading while child was playing. Soon, she removed a can of Red Bull from her handbag, opened it and took a sip. Then she very discreetly brought a small bottle of what I am guessing was travel sized vodka to her side and quickly dumped it in the can of red bull. She quickly dropped the little bottle back in her bag and looked around to see if anyone had seen her.
Summary: If this nanny thought this was okay, she wouldn't have been so sneaky. Is there any data available on the percentage of nannies with alcohol dependency?

1) Hi everyone! I know this is not an i saw your nanny post but I need some advice. I have been with my family for almost a year and we recently talked about my yearly raise that is coming up. The family is wonderful and the 3 children are all under 6 years old. I have more than met their expectations of me by doing extra things that were not originally talked about during the interview. I really love the children and the parents are great people to work for. The dad told me to "come up with a number" for my yearly raise! I don't want to ask for too much, but I would like to be compensated appropriately for my hard work this past year. Any help would be appreciated and as I said before, I know this isn't an I saw your nanny post but I would love any advice!

Nannies & Mother's Day....

I am a working mother with two children 7 & 9. We have had the same nanny for 3 years this May. I have never gotten her anything for Mother's Day but it did occur to me that this year, it might be nice. I suggested such to a stay at home mother I am close with and she snapped, "you want to admit in writing that "nanny" is more of a mother than you". I felt as if I had been slapped. Do people really think that is what it connotates? They really should make greeting cards for nannies. My nanny is my right hand, my friend and a part of our family. I love my children and I love that I am able to work. The nanny balances everything out. She doesn't think she is the mother, she spends weeks with the children behind closed doors working on Mother's Day projects for me. (The past two years). I don't have a question. The more I thought about what the stay at home mother thought, the angrier I became.

1) As a mom and a professional daycare provider, I'm very disapointed by this site and the people on it. Many of these stories are so obviously embellished and told in a manner to make the nanny look bad. But in my experience as a caregiver, it's typically the parents who treat the kids the worst in public. I can't tell you how many times I see MOMS ignoring their children at parks, spending an hour or more yapping on their cell as their child begs them to play, or worse. This is ALL behavior moms engage in..........nannys are human too, and we should not be persecuting them for behavior we do.
2) If these stories are remotely true, it's very upsetting to me that people are seeing so many children in danger and say nothing, and instead come home to email and anonnymous website. Where is the personal responsibility here? If you see a child in true danger, it's really your duty to speak up and protect them. Taking it to a website just seems selfish and snarky, and you don't seem to have the childs best interest at heart in any way.

I had a troubling experience at the Franklin Park Zoo on Friday 5/4. This occurred specifically in the restroom near the Outback exhibit. I was taking my child to use the restroom. Walking in the restroom, I witnessed a woman crouching on her knees in front of a little girl who could not have been more than 4. The woman who I suspect was her nanny was squeezing her wrists together and saying, "do you think this is fun for me? do you think I want to be here? Crying because you have to walk a few steps, what you need is something to cry about". (Words to this effect). I came in at the last clip and immediately saw the way she was holding the little girl's hands. The little girl was sniffling, desperately trying not to cry. I don't know what happened before I came in but as anyone knows- it is not unusual for a small child to tire of walking. The nanny looked up at me and stood up. I thought to ask her, "is everything okay" and the nanny made some sort of noise that sounded like "psssssssss" and waved her hand at me (dismissive). The little girl was taking very deep, quick breaths trying not to cry. I smiled at her. My daughter who is 2.8 at that point asked out loud, "mommy was is that woman hurting the girl?" With this the nanny left the restroom, dragging the little girl by one hand and tugging on her floral printed sweatshirt. Additional description of the child would be blond with brown eyes and she had on pinkish "croc" shoes. The nanny was wearing denim jeans in a very light wash and a red pull over with buttons at the top only. Her face was very wide, she wore her hair parted in the middle and wavy and she had a large gap between her two front teeth. She was taller than me (I'm 5'6") and easily over 200 lbs.
For descriptive purposes, please add that the child was Caucasian and the nanny, African American. Thanks.

2 little boys, approximately 1.5 yrs of age. The boys had light brown hair, big dark eyes. They were in a double stroller; the front and back kind- not the side to side. The nanny parked double stroller off to the side in the store earlier today and proceeded to browse the entire store. I could have easily walked out of the store with the stroller and both of your little boys. What was this nanny thinking?

Banana Republic on 86th and Broadway in NYC. Nanny parked a Jane Powertwin stroller, with the kids in it, and proceeded to browse the racks. I am fairly certain I could have walked out with the stroller without her noticing. Kids are two boys, maybe twins, with light brown hair and big brown eyes. I would guess around two years old. Nanny is black and is around 45 or 50, medium build. This was on Friday, May 4th at 10:10AM. Oh, looks like someone posted this for me already.

Yesterday, May 2 at approximately 4PM a very young Nanny, Caucasian, Blond Hair, 5’3”, young- maybe 23? Allowed her young charge, about 1 year old, to run up and down the hallway of her apartment building of 831 SW Vista Avenue, Portland Oregon, while wearing only a diaper- the hallways are very cold, I myself was wearing several layers of clothing. I actually stood and aloud wondered “Where is the person in charge of this young boy?” I hear vacuuming coming from the apartment down the hall, and went to go find out what was going on. This nanny was vacuuming and cleaning her apartment with the door open and told me that she had purposely let this child run free in the hallways while she was cleaning her apartment…on her employers time. I admonished her that this was not okay to let this child room free like an animal! She continued her cleaning and otherwise ignoring of this child, and allowed the child to continue to run up and down the halls in a building full of strangers. I fear for the safety of this child, the nanny was oblivious to anything but her cleaning, it was like she told him to go play in traffic. You should fire this nanny.

Today - outside a trendy sandwich shop at Jane st, near w. 4th, a nanny, I think Hispanic, with died blond hair, overweight, little boy, blond in a brown plaid shirt asleep in royal blue bugaboo chameleon with fuzzy turquoise lining, asked me a stranger on a bench outside the shop to watch her charge while she went inside for lunch. I told her that her job was to never ever take her eyes off of the child, and that she should never leave him with strangers. This woman did not show good judgment.

You will know this is your nanny when I explain to you her hair. She had very flat, shiny hair that was black and pressed close to her skull and swirled around. On top of her head, she had curly honey colored hair clipped on. She was wearing a white t-shirt, two or three gold earrings in her ear and an ear clip. She was an AA, with a medium but very solid build and average height. She was in charge of a boy of about 3/4 that was not on his best behavior. I got the feeling that the child's behavior was a result of his nanny's behavior and her short fuse. The little boy was eating a little tub of Ritz brand crackers. The nanny repeatedly asked the boy for some of the crackers. When the boy didn't give her the crackers, she snatched the whole thing from him. This caused him to whine and cry more. Then she told him she had enough, picked up her bag and took him by the hand as he cried and left the playground with him. Now before you judge this kid, consider this. I arrived at the park a half hour or so previous and had watched this child play on the playground whilst the nanny gabbed on her cellphone. He repeatedly kept going up to her and telling her that he was hungry. He asked if it was time for lunch or when he could eat. The nanny said 'in a minute'. The boy whined that he was hungry. The boy kept bothering her and telling her he was hungry. He said "I am too hungry to play". She said to him "go play" and pointed at the playground and glared at him. He reluctantly returned to the playground. At this time I thought nothing of it. Nor did I think anything of the fact that the nanny was snacking on a tub of Ritz crackers. It was literally a half hour later when the little boy finally had his Ritz crackers. Or what was left of them. He complained he was thirsty and she said, 'there is water at home, we don't need to leave the house to drink. you wanted to play". The boy whined and said he wanted something different. He asked for a hot dog or a sandwich. The nanny said "this is it for now". Never mind, the time was then 12:40. So yes, the little boy was a whiner but wouldn't you be too? If the person in charge of providing for you was so clueless? Yes, kids get cranky when they are hungry. And I ever so highly doubt this child would approve of his "lunch" or the manner in which you spoke to him. The little boy had was Caucasian with a dark, tanned complexion, dark, curly hair and a pale blue Nike l/s shirt on, blue jeans and Nike tennis shoes that were half white (front) and black (back). The swoosh was blue on the black. This all happened on Wednesday at the WW Playground on W. 93rd. Street.

The little boy had was Caucasian with a dark, tanned complexion, dark, curly hair and a pale blue Nike l/s shirt on, blue jeans and Nike tennis shoes that were half white (front) and black (back). The swoosh was blue on the black. This all happened on Wednesday at the WW Playground on W. 93rd. Street.

Tues. 5/1 at around 6-7p on the M104 there was a nanny w/2 girls (5ish & 10ish yr old). The nanny let a strange man stroke and fondle the 5yr old's hair. I am a grandmother and I can tell you this is not appropriate behavior. I and several other people on the bus told nanny to please take the child to sit with her. The nanny was sitting with the 10 yr old. Away from the five year old. The strange man was not with them. We found this out because a person on the bus asked if they were related, he said no, he was just being "friendly". The nanny was wearing a uniform of some sort, light blue pants/top. They got off the bus at 82nd and Broadway. If you this sounds familiar to you, please please say something to the mother. This woman should not be watching children. She is Hispanic/maybe even Filipino (she spoke to us in English/Spanish).

I thought about whether to post this but even as I reflect on what I observed, I am uncertain I can properly describe what I saw this weekend. I am posting it because the name of the blog is I saw your nanny, not because I am certain that it was a BAD nanny. I observed a young European nanny or Au pair waiting in line with her charge who was a boy of about 9-11. He called her by her first name and she was definitely his caregiver. She had an accent and he did not. The girl was attractive, 5'4, 120, blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin. The boy had light brown hair, cut longer in the front, was chubby, 4'11-5" and fair skin. The boy wore khaki shorts, a collared shirt and a sweater over that with boating shoes. The girl was wearing a red ss shirt with blue trim around the sleeves, tan shorts and black flip flops.
The whole time I was waiting with my 6 & 8 year old son, we were distracted by this nanny and her charge. I kid you not- the whole time he was hugging her; burying his head in her chest. Everyone noticed this. The nanny was 22-25. It was such an odd sight. If this is your nanny, please talk to your son. Maybe your nanny doesn't know how to address this situation but it is just not right! These went on for about 15 minutes as he seemed to knead her breasts with his head. First his right cheek and then his left. And he was way too old not to "get it". Back and fourth. I couldn't help but stare. Everyone was staring. And the boy did separate himself from t he nanny's chest, when he looked down to see who was coming. They were clearly waiting for someone and he was not about to let Mom and Dad see him acting so inappropriately.

The Child- Caucasian, male, blonde/brown hair, blue fleece sweatshirt, tan shorts, about 4-6 years old.
Your nanny was shopping for herself (obvious due to the fact that she was in the women's dept) yet all the while she was involving your son. Asking him which shirt she should pick, asking him about his day and what he was doing tomorrow, goofing around with him, swerving the cart around. Your son had an icee cup from the snack area, a special treat to keep him occupied? Usually I am opposed to nannies taking their charges on personal shopping trips, but this seemed to make it okay. It was so refreshing to see a nanny and her charge having fun and interacting. To see how the nanny involved him, asking which shirt color do you think goes best with this pant color? Teaching him while having fun! It brought a smile to my face. If this is your nanny let me say how lucky you are, and how jealous I am!

Approximately 4PM, (Tues. May 1) a hysterical child about age 4, screaming, hollering, calling his parents names and cussing at them. When the CCP's couldn't deal with the situation, they told the other child, a girl approximately nine or so, to take him outside. Evidently, they didn't wish to leave the store and continued with their shopping. Meanwhile, the little girl was outside trying to contain the still screaming and upset child which was well beyond her abilities. I observed this when I had gone to check out the disturbance in the store and I also observed the little girl grabbing on him and trying to control him while outside the store, so her parents/nanny/nanny and a parent could shop. Both CCPS's were Hispanic and the mother/CCP had very poofy black hair, with a white T shirt, cut off jean shorts, and very dramatic fingernails. The father/CCP had a shaven head, muscle shirt, baggy Levis, and tennis shoes. The little girl wore sandal tennis shoes and capris with a spaghetti strap floral tank top and the little boy was wearing shorts and possibly a diaper, and a yellow T shirt. The children were outside by themselves with no supervision for around 45 minutes.

At about 5:45 pm tonight (Tues 5/1), I saw the most horrible thing on 3rd Ave/87th. street right outside gap kids. There was a girl, age 7-10ish, she was wearing green- I think with wavy light brown/dark blonde hair, and she was with a nanny who was either Caribbean or dark-skinned Hispanic, heavyset, and tightly curled shoulder length hair, and a man who was either the girl's father or grandfather - he was medium height and was balding with shaggy white hair. anyway, the man was like abusing this girl. I have never seen anything so horrible. He was pulling her hair - HARD - and she was just crying like you've never seen... I am not explaining this well at ALL, but this guy was disgusting and incredibly abusive, and this was just the sickest, most awful thing I have ever seen.. He was about to scalp this girl he was pulling her hair so hard and just screaming out at her in the most abusive, loudest voice.... If you know this family please contact the mom, or someone who can help the girl.

This occurred on Thurs. 4/28 at Hippo Playground at 91st Street and Riverside. Little girl with long brown hair around 4, Blue shirt, jeans and jacket. Little boy with brown hair around 3, navy and orange jacket (windbreaker). Nanny was Caucasian, with glasses. Light brown hair. Wearing Peach shirt and jeans. Brown Adidas sneakers. Little Girl was in the baby swing area, inside the gate, pushing a ball on the swing. The swing hit her in the face and started crying. Nanny wasn't even in the swing area. She was outside near the jungle gym watching the little boy. The other moms had to ask the girl who she was with. One of the moms got her attention. Instead of going into the swing area, she pulled the girl over the fence.

They shrieked with laughter as she dared them to consent to be pushed higher. Possibly your children are always so rapturously happy, but how could they not be in the company of such a pollyannaish soul? At the picnic table, they rested; sharing between the three of them one water bottle and a bag of cheese crackers. And then it was off to play again, this time freeze tag in the marshy, green grass. Guided with caution every step of the way and yet encouraged to push their limits, run faster, swing higher and "try, just try"-this nanny made me dizzy with delight and fairly ashamed of the Vanity Fair I peered over. -LS, Rye
