Description of children: Twins or very close in age, between 2-4 yrs, Caucasian with dark hair. The little girl's hair was curly and the boy's was straight. The little girl wore little blue jeans and a white sweatshirt with hearts across the chest. The little boy wore white Nike tennis shoes, blue jeans and an "Oswego State" grey sweatshirt. The nanny was African American, medium body frame, short, tight pony tail, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a burgundy zip-up hoody with yellow designs on the sleeves. Location: Playground at Rye Recreation in the city of Rye, New York on April 30.
This is the sort of nanny that evokes the temptation to poach. I watched; mesmerized as she followed your darling children from swing set to slide to patches of grass. They shrieked with laughter as she dared them to consent to be pushed higher. Possibly your children are always so rapturously happy, but how could they not be in the company of such a pollyannaish soul? At the picnic table, they rested; sharing between the three of them one water bottle and a bag of cheese crackers. And then it was off to play again, this time freeze tag in the marshy, green grass. Guided with caution every step of the way and yet encouraged to push their limits, run faster, swing higher and "try, just try"-this nanny made me dizzy with delight and fairly ashamed of the Vanity Fair I peered over. -LS, Rye

This is a very thoughtful and evocative post. Maybe you should put down the Vanity Fair and pick up and pen and paper.
Thanks for the positive sighting!
What a wonderful read....LS, you just made my day!!!!!!!!! I hope this Nanny is WELL paid.
Kate
Mad props, Rye Nanny!
Lauren-
Is that you?
i agree with annie! you need to be a writer. this is very well written.
glad to see an active, fun nanny out there
I think there are a lot of good nannies in Rye. Likely because most of the parents are very particular and very active in their children's lives.
anon. @1237,
well that wasn't my experience in rye but this- this is a great post.
I loved what you wrote. Keep it up.
Makes me want to frolic in the grass with my little one!
this was great, a nice ending to a stressful day!
Great Post!
Sounds like a wonderful nanny ;) Good for her! Definitely would be tempted to poach!!!
I love, love, love the writing style. If this is the way the book is written, you will sell a million copies. That tax debt will be paid off in no time! Kudos!
And kudos to whoever hired this nanny. Good for them!
which lauren do you mean?
13 comments and not a one of you has accused the nanny being described of writing the post.
Why is that?
What's different?
ever so lovely.
As a mom, I love this sighting!! Parents want this kind of interaction between their children and their caretakers. Saddly, not all end up with such great nannies. The only thing that made me cring was the sharing of a bottle of water..yeach. But any parent, myself included, would overlook it to have such a great nanny caring for their child. :)
We agree with the mom's comment @ 1:42. What more can a parent look for than someone who so lovingly plays with and cares for their kids when they are not there. It is refreshing to hear such a lovely story.
Are you saying you last two moms are seriously cringing over the shared water bottle? seriously? I'd be a bit more worried about nannies with the HIV bandaging up scraped knees then I would about a shared water bottle.
10:18: I think that you'll find that when a post is false or at least misleading, a lot of people will pick up on it. It's called "the wisdom of crowds" and although it doesn't sound very scientific, it's fairly reliable.
So, when you find a whole lot of commenters who agree that something sounds fishy, something is probably fishy, and then, as in this case, when no one has any problem with the post, you can probably bet that it's the truth or close to it.
8:52 what book are you refering to? I am confused...
The book I was hoping to have to read by summer's end in Chilmark??
