Tuesday

Good Nanny Sighting at Target in Fitchburg, WI

The children: Boy, 12-18 months old, striped shirt and gray pants. Girl, 2-3 years old, two toned purple shirt and jeans.
Nanny: Short, plus sized with blond and red hair. White shirt with purple sleeves, jeans and Coach bag.
Location: Target, Fitchburg, WI
Date/Time: 10/11, 1215p
Observed: The older child had an apparent test of will by sitting down in an aisle, refusing to get up and follow the nanny. I have seen other nannies and parents handle similar situations with less tact and sense. This child was being a typical preschooler, testing limits, and nanny was wonderful. Another test of will was in the parking lot (I was parked in the same row as nanny and I was loading my car). The child was holding nanny's hand and decided to let go of her hand and sit in the parking lot. Nanny tried to take the child's hand, but child refused. Nanny must have given a warning which didn't work, because she then picked up the child who was upset and in a calm tone stated she did not like the listening and that sitting in the parking lot was not a safe choice. Overall a fantastic nanny, and the family who employs her is lucky to have her.

Good Nanny Sighting at the Palisades Mall in Nyack, NJ

Date: 8/4/2015
Location: Palisades Mall
Description of Nanny: Black Nanny, American. Short, well coiffed hair, white t-shirt with gold cat on it. White jeans. White sandals with a wedge heel. About5'7"/5'8" with a trim shape.
Description of Child: Special Needs Child, girl of about 4/5, in diapers, with glasses and a Lily Pullitzer style dress.
Incident: The child was having some behavior problems, tantrum throwing and hitting the nanny. The little girl would scream "AYKKKKEEE  AYCKKKKE". The nanny was not loving the attention from the people around her but she ignored them and shielded the girl from their stares by positioning the child away from onlookers. She was wearing nice white jeans and dropped immediately to her knees and gave her a tight hug. She talked to her in such a soft yet firm voice. She told the girl she was hurting her and to please stop. It turns out the child was started on this fit by some Helium balloons. An onlooker tried to intercede and give her a balloon. The nanny tried to implore the guy with her eyes. She was shaking her head. The guy was still insisting and this is when the girl was pretty much calmed. She was still chirping, but calm. The nanny finally said, "We can't take the balloon, Thank you.". This set the girl off again and she went chasing after the man. The nanny stopped her, scooped her up tried to keep her calm. She was screaming for the balloon but she had a speech problem. The nanny tried to explain to her that they could not have balloons. She told her, "remember when balloons hurt? Ow". The way this little girl was staring into this nanny's eyes, so desperate to have her make sense of things for her. I am so glad to witness that and so glad that little girl's parents obviously took exceptional care to find such a calm, collected and loving nanny. The nanny distracted her by offering a ride on the Merry Go Round but then told her they had to find tennis shoes after one ride.

2015 The Good Nanny Sighting, #4

NANNY SIGHTING!!!
Please email isynblog@gmail.com with your sighting.
Location: Minot Playground, Brookline, MA
Date/Time: 5/15 10:45 AM (approx)
Description of Nanny: Black American nanny, thin to medium build, grey t-shirt with darker gray silhouette of unknown woman, white ankle capris pants, silver flats with a buckle.
Description of Child: Special needs boy of about 4-5. Blond/brown straigh hair, glasses with a blue strap around his head, wearing striped shirt with turtle that says "Turtally cool"
Incident: Nanny had to stay with this child everywhere. He needed help lifting and doing things. I am sure she could have not, but by being by his side, he did more, expalimed "Yeayyyyy" many times and seemed so happy. I noticed he appears to have a muscular disorder, but the nanny treated him like such a champion. Words that came to mind were empowering, fun, excited. She literally matched his energy, used the best tone she could with him. When it was time for a break, it was at his suggestion, "I tired". She went to a camouflage sling blag and got out a towel and an orange and they peeled oranges and ate string cheese while drinking water.  Then she challenged him to a few "races". You could tell the kid was tired but also that the nanny was trying to get him to do more (gently). She's clearly educated about children and his disability. Made me day to see her non stop beautiful smile. Clearly, this nanny is someone I could NEVER afford!

Great Nanny Sighting at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, AZ

Where: Reed Park Zoo. Tucson, Az
When: 5/12/2015, between 11:15-11:45
Description of Nanny: I saw Your Nanny, she was Hispanic, short, heavy set, young 20', wearing wide white shorts, white socks, Birkenstock sandals and a paisley print blouse. Blue visor. Name may have rhymed with Ola, but not Lola.
Description of Child: Two girls, blonde with light eyes. Twins. Blonde hair, cut in short identical Bobs, yellow tank tops, white denim shorts with flowers on them and matching white sandals. Between 2-4 y.o.
Incident: I took my children to the zoo on Tuesday and witnessed this nanny in action. She was funny, expressive, energetic and kind. When one cried to get out of the stroller, she got them both out, parked the stroller to the side and ran off to the side with them to get some energy out. One of the girls kept whining that she wanted to go "back to the giraffes". The nanny didn't just talk to her, she got down in her face and said something like, "I know you do, because that was fun. But that is only once in the morning, but since you liked it so much, how about we come back later in the week and DO IT AGAIN" Total enthusiasm here. As I struggled with my one child who wanted in the stroller and then immediately out and back in, I really wanted to steal her! I don't know where or how you found her, but she is my dream childcare provider!

Monday

Good Nanny Sighting at Monona Public Library in Monona, WI

Where: Monona Public Library, Monona, WI
When: Saturday, 4/18/15 1030a-1145a
Description of nanny: White, plus sized curvy, 30-40. Striped shirt, yellow sweater, capri jeans, flip flops, messenger style Marylin Monroe bag
Description of children: Boy 3-4 with striped shirt and gray shorts, and infant girl wearing light pink onesie with brown dots (I believe their names are Max and Lily)

Your nanny is fantastic! Nanny chatted with a mother whom she knew and her child; from what I heard the child was in nanny's old preschool class before leaving. Max and the child played together for a few minutes before separating. Max wanted to play with child but nanny explained that maybe the child and his mother wanted to spend time together-she engaged Max in play and allowed him to explore without being harsh. While Max was busy, nanny was very engaged on the floor with Lily, who was crawling all over. Nanny, who periodically checked her phone for texts every so often, did not leave the children to fend for themselves-she was engaged with both children constantly. Nanny also encourgaed Max to clean up after himself. When it came time to go, she told Max they had five more minutes to play, but Max didn't want to leave. She explained to him it was time to go, and that they would ask Mom when they got home if he could come back to the library later. He wouldn't move, and kept telling nanny no. In a calm manner, she guided Max over to the Lego area and encouraged him to clean up, and explained that they were leaving because Mom was home. Max gladly cleaned up his creation and got into the stroller without an issue. Nanny said good-bye to the other child and mother, and left.

What a wonderful nanny. I was very happy to see an active nanny who really loves her job, and it was evident by how she interacted with these children how much she loves her work.

Kid's Funstop in Roxbury, MA

I just wanted to tell the employer of Amelia the nanny that her nanny is doing great work. I saw her out with two children, between 3 & 4, twins, aleast one of them was special needs.  The nanny kept setting the kids up for success climbing, exploring, but staying near enough them to quickly help them when they had a problem. One of the children, a boy with dark hair and dark eyes in striped overalls and a turtleneck was easily frustrated and prone to tantrums. She met each tantrum with grace and redirected him. I didn't take a picture because I wasn't thinking of "submitting" this. When I drove off, the nanny was coming down the steps, carrying both children, one on each hip. One child was crying, one was not and the nanny had on the same calm expression. I decided to submit this because from the looks of it, the children may require some extra attention. It makes me happy to see a children's needs being met without anger or impatience, so kudos to you on your nanny. The nanny was named Amelia because another mother/nanny greeted her by name. The nanny was a black, American woman, about 25, medium height, heavy set, wearing Levi jeans, black converse and a knee length sweater coat, I was at Kid's Fun Stop this morning from 930-10:45 and she was there at about the same time.

Westchester Mall Food Court in White Plains, NY

I thought I would share this Good Nanny Sighting with you! I was at the Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY on lunch break with my boyfriend. At the table next to us was a young woman, possibly from the Netherlands. She was blonde and had an unfamiliar accent. She had three children under 5 with her.

It was amazing watching how she choreographed getting each child the food that they wanted from a different food court location, while still keeping all the kids together and within reach.

Then, when she finally sat down, she has no food or drink in front of her. She goes about setting up catsup and drinks for the children and? After watching what like an athletic event, she starts spelling with the kids. Everytime she gets to the youngest child (about 2??) she says, "I" or "A". The way she encouraged the kids to cheer for each other, be patient and use manners was so impressive. The kids ate. Then she helped them pack up their trash and had each child take their own garbage, one by one. She was going to walk with the youngest but the oldest child asked to help. I don't know who you are, employer of this woman, but your kids are in the best hands! What a kind and positive demeanor. It was the calmest, coolest table in the whole food court.

Nanny: About 5'6", short blonde hair, attractive face, wearing blue jeans and an ITHACA sweatshirt.
Children" Boy, age 2, brown hair, brown corduroys jeans, white sweater, hiking boots. Boy, approximately 5, brown hair, blue jeans, same hiking boots as younger boy. Girl, approximate age 3, pony tails with red & white ribbons, red dress, red tights and red mary janes.
Stroller: Double stroller, blue with a brown and blue plaid pattern on the fabric.

Town Commons Playground - Carrboro, NC

GOODNANNYSIGHTING-1
Tuesday July 17th about 10:00-10:45am in Carrboro, NC at the Town Commons playground. The little girl's name was Esme, 2 years old, and a little boy with blue glasses, also 2. Nanny was a middle aged Hispanic woman wearing black track pants and a white t-shirt. She was wonderful, attentive, playful, and friendly! My charge and daughter brought a ball to share and she was helpful in encouraging all of the kids to share and play together. She spoke Spanish to the children and they were already fluent (girl was very vocal and polite). She had a stroller filled with activities for the kids and even brought out a book to share with my 16 month old who couldn't really participate in the older kids ball game. She seemed to genuinely care for the children and if I weren't already lucky enough to bring my daughter to work with me, she would be exactly who I'd want to hire for my daughter!
