do live in nannies have social lives?

No. Live in nannies are basically a cross between the Amish and nuns and don't have any adult interaction whatsoever.

;)

(But really, though?)

Well honestly it's up to you. If you state it in your contract that you are off at a certain time & such as every other weekend and you state that the charges are not allowed in your living space & you are not responsible for them if they wake up during the night, also state that you come & go as you want when you are on your own time. You should then have a social life provided that you go places, do things and meet new people. I know first hand how lonely it can get so make sure you find a nanny group or something that you enjoy

i really hated it, I never felt comfortable even though i loved the kid and they were nice to me. I made good money as I had a side job and rented at low cost a room with friends just to get away on my night off. It was a good way to save money though for the right person, but it's hard not to have your own space

I think it probably varies from family to family, too... Some nannies practically have their own apartments, or the whole basement, etc, while some just have a room very near the family's own living quarters. I could handle the first, could never handle the second. Also depends on how the family handles your off time, whether they're respectful of your space or the kind to start encroaching. Know yourself and your family.
