WTF

This person has lost their mind. 132 hours of work, if I did my math right, for $500? In NY?? I live in a fairly small town, work a normal Mon - Fri 7-5 day, and still feel underpaid making $600/week.

Why do these people even have children if they only plan to spend Saturday's with them? And let's me honest, if they find a nanny crazy enough to take this on, I'm sure she'll be working 24/7 before long.

When I started reading this I was like...ok... It's clearly below market rate and they won't keep the nanny long before she gets poached by another family but definitely not as bad as other wtf adverts that I came across before...UNTIL I read that the baby will be sleeping in the Nanny's bedroom so actually 24/7 plus a HUGE loss of privacy due to this detail. Then I eventually though...WTF...

So the nanny doesn't have a room... Wow sounds like a great family.... NOT

I read Sunday 7am - Friday 7pm to mean nanny started at 7am each day and stopped at 7pm. Which is still a LOT of work for this rate, but also not the worst posting I've ever seen. It wasn't until seeing the part about where baby sleeps that I realized her schedule is literally Sunday 7am - Friday 7pm with no time off in there.

I am so very curious about the interview with what ever poor creature got tricked into. How do they explain any of their outrageous demands? How do they justify the sleeping arrangements? "You want your baby to sleep with me?" So sorry delusional parents, even if the salary you were offering for the insane amount of hours you want me on wasn't a pathetic joke, I'm not gonna share a room with Your Baby. Not My baby, Your baby. Absolutely not even close to comfortable with that. Although I'm sure they'll be tooootally cool once the kids are running to me, their new momma, to complain about the strangers living in 'our' house. A charming little mix up is how I imagine that event will be described. I've been on my fair share of interviews where similar requests were slipped in between the lines and you realize you're going to be acquiring 1, 2, how many? children of your very own in an instant ~ these parents aren't even trying to hide it!
Oh to be a fly on that wall!!! Thanks! I definitely needed a good chuckle right now & that did it! May all those that get roped into this wise up fast & ruuuuuun! hahahahaha

I think we've all seen enough requests/"shout outs" from parents who want everything a parent would/should do, all from that ONE person whom they seem to refer to as a "nanny," and all for 10.00 or 12.00 an hour: Full-time housekeeper, cook, laundress, chauffeur, errand runner, dog walker, pooper scooper, bed maker and linen changer, closet organizer, refrigerator cleaner and, ooops, almost forgot-- child care duties, i.e. teacher, playmate, toy washer and cleaner-upper, snack-maker, bath-giver, diaper changer, play-date hostess, etc etc etc.

And, while the above type of "job description" seems to be popping up all over the place, there are other requests that baffle the mind, just the same. For example, look at this one posted recently on one of the usual places; I am posting it just as it was printed:
$10.00 per hour
4 children (Preschool, Elementary)

I am a mother of 4 kids it can be hectic i need someone who is patient, very responsible, ten years of experience and over, caring and understanding , i want reassurance that my kids are in good and safe hands because i am a crazy mother and i will react in a very hostile way!!!!!
Want to apply to this job?

And then, there is this other one that was also posted on one of those usual places:
$6.00-10.00/hr.
Luna Just turned one. All I need is someone to tend to her basic needs. She will Entertain Herself and Put herself to sleep.

The first one is scary; the second one is just, well, sad.

Wow is all I can say to that ad. Sleeping with the baby I can handle if the parents put him/her to sleep and they slept through the night. Or I had regular hours I'd train the baby to sleep through the night. I prefer to be by myself at night watching tv and writing so that wouldn't disturb the baby. But for $500 a week my days would be a LOT less work/hours, no driving and no play dates. I'll fix the kid something to eat and clean up after him but that's it.
