Turns out Nanny Can Cook

Our nanny of less than a month is taking charge in her new position. I had not asked her to cook because we have three children and didn't think she could work it out. As it turns out, she has been cooking and she is quite good at it. Good at it as in, I see myself looking forward to coming home wonderding what she has made. Because this was not a part of her original assignment and because she is so good and we want to keep her happy, what would be a fair amount to add to her weekly salary for cooking four nights a week?  I was thinking $100 for family dinner for 5. Friday, we usually go out or do take out.  Her currrent salary is $825 after taxes for five 11 hour days.

You are a great parent to work for! That's amazing, so glad your nanny is a good cook. :)

I think $100 extra is plenty, especially if the cooking doesn't seem to be too hard for her to handle with your kids too. :)

Whether the cooking is hard or easy is the mere fact that she is doing it and therefore eliminate you having to do it after a long day... $100 is good and I'm sure she will appreciate it may you be bless for your acknowledging her efforts.

I would love to work for a parent like you. Hats off to the parent who actually does something nice in return in appreciation for all the hard work us nannies do.

Exactly. Alot of parents are all about squeezing the nanny. They dont mind dropping a dime on a hermes bag or some cocaine to fuel a night of binge drinking for which the nanny will work late but not get paid.

Hats off to ya! Youre great. I suggest doing it per night though and optional. This way she wont feel obligated or preassured to cook. Many have days where they are just too tired to do it. So, break that up by 5 and mark the days she does it to add to her check.

I would discuss it with her decide if you both want to add it to her daily duties. I find it amazing that you are acknowledging her, and being considerate of her efforts and talents. You sound like a great MB!

No no, just fire her and hire me instead - I can cook too!! ;) Just kidding, of course. You sound like an awesome family to work for :) I agree with Katherine Nelson - have a talk with nanny and tell her that you've been thinking of adding cooking to her duties and adding $100 to her salary. that way she knows you appreciate her, and that you also value her thoughts and opinion on the matter.

Agree with PPs! You sound like a great boss!! Offer her the option of either 100 per week or a set amount per meal. There will be days when she doesn't have time to cook.
