the author of this quote has a phobia which is a very valid phobia - it's called coulrephobia - a fear of clowns!

Since i hire clowns to work with children i have had to learn about this phobia and how to assuage it

All kinds of people have coulrephobia - police officers, war veterans, kids, parents - many people.

the primary reason for coulrephobia is that Providence made us to judge the safety of our surroundings by the expression on the faces of those around us - if they look angry - run! If they look loving then they are a friend

with clowns - they paint their features to hide or distort the expression

it also does not help that as in any industry - like nannying- there are bad apples in the bunch and a mean clown can cause coulrephobia in anyone

so - i am careful to hire clowns with VERY little make up and vet them for being very good and nice

Lol I think I may have overthought that quote...I was thinking about how babies are so pure and innocent, never do anything with malicious intent (they're babies, they don't have it in them yet) but that once they see that it is fun to laugh AT others, that is when their laugh loses its purity. Kind of sad actually...

nay, that was very insightful!

As with any thought provoking quote - this one can have more than one meaning and level - very good analysis
