CL- WTF on I SAW YOUR NANNY by MPP
Photobucket
.... WHAT?!

Feature:
1) Need after school sitter for cranky/sneaky 12 year old girl (St. Louis)
I figured I'd be honest up front. My daughter isn't exactly the nicest person in the world to be around right now. At least not to me, although I have seen her be nice to other people. Lately, she has become very upset when I am home after school and she feels like I shouldn't be or she will call over and over to see what time I am coming home. While she swears she doesn't have anything or anyone planned to do that she knows I wouldn't like, I tend to doubt this otherwise why would she be so upset if I am home? I have caught her trying to smoke and drink and at this time, just don't feel that her staying at home alone is such a great idea. I already have a babysitter for my younger two children, however she is in another school district so my daughter can't ride the bus to her house. I am looking for someone who can work about 3 hours a day. After school only. She may need a couple of rides home, as I am trying to sign her up for after school activities so she isn't alone all afternoon, but again, that still leaves her alone until her dad gets home around 6. I would perfer someone who won't let her eat a bunch of crap and sit on the couch watching tv. She is very overweight and is affecting her health. Maybe someone who loves to run. or anything more physical than lifting pepsi to her mouth. Yes, it needs to be someone who can handle the "i hate you so please die look" and the "OMG I hate you and my life and maybe I should kill myself!" statements that she likes to make. Someone who is smart enough to realize that her being nice is probably only going to last as long as it takes you to ask her to do anything relating homework, excersice, or housework. Anyway, if I haven't completely scared you off please email me. This really is a need that I have and hopefully there is some brave soul out there. FYI She goes to Ridgewood MIddle School in the Fox District.

Wow at number 1....Did the mother ever think that perhaps something maybe bothering her 12 year old that she acts like this? And for the mother to be concerned about her daughter's weight and health, that is the mother's fault.

I think I am going to apply for number 2...

Re #2:

Ohhh, nothing's sexier than a man who can't spell to save his life.

MissMannah said...

The mother in #1 has pissed me off beyond belief. I'm seeing depressive over-eating here and this woman wants to pawn her daughter off on someone else. "Please take my fattie daughter running so I don't have to do it myself." and "I hope you can handle threats of suicide because I'm obviously ignoring them." This girl needs attentive parents and talk therapy--not a babysitter!

#1 is so sad. This child is obviously crying out for help.
#2 was crazy! He needs his "physical needs met"? That just screams pervert.
#11 was laughable. The ad says there is no televison in the daycare then goes on to say they have movies on Fridays. Along with fast food each Friday. That's not terribly reassuring.
#13 ahh the closet twenty something Miley Cyrus fan. I just laughed.
There were lots of How Much? ads that were crazy. As a nanny in Virginia, I always find it shocking at how little people are willing to pay for childcare. I have always been well paid but I always see ads for a full time position for less than 200 a week. Ridiculous.

#1 As a mom dealing with a 13 year old herself you've got to remember your child is becoming an adult. They want their own opinions and outlooks on life and you can guarantee they will ALWAYS BE THE OPPOSITE OF YOURS. If I say black, he says white. Even if your outlooks and opinions are the probably the best, they will see them as old-fashioned, and will reject them.

You've got to walk the fine line of letting them become adults while not squashing their independence. I am no expert, there are days I want to throw my head through a wall. I let my son grope his way to find the borders of my tolerance, and if he gets out of line I am like a alligator, ready to snap him back in line. These tests come and go at will. What he thinks is cool one day is not the next.

Overeating is not always a cry for help, sometimes it's done out of boredom. Talk to your daughter, find out what she likes to do and get her involved. You can buy less junk food (leave the Pepsi off the shopping list)treat sugary, fatty snacks as a treat not everyday fare.

#2 Should be locked up.

I viewed #1 a lil differently... When I was that age, my mom and I fought about every little thing--confiding in her was not an option to my puberty confused mind :) SO maybe this mom realizes she has a serious issue and is trying to find a young woman who can serve as a positive influence. Kind of like a big sister/mentor type situation? Just a thought...

MissMannah said...

Denver, I really don't think that's the case. The mother sounded as if she is sick of her daughter and doesn't want to deal with her anymore. If she was looking for a mentor, I don't think she would have used phrases like "I hope I haven't scared you off."

Also, I just read through all the How Much? ads and I agree with VA, they are crazy. Just this morning, I responded to an ad for a short-term nanny job. It was for 4 days, 10-11 hours each day. The mom and I talked and then she offered me $165 total. Uh...no thank you!!

As far as number 11 goes, I just don't see how a professional person could post an ad with such obvious spelling errors. And I don't see how someone would reply to have their children TAUGHT by such people. Huge pet peeve for me! KNOW not NO. OUR not ARE. Basic, basic concepts.

There is a walk-up restaurant AND a 99 cents store in South Central Los Angeles with professionally printed signs with terrible spelling mistakes. I just don't see how that can get by so many people, people that run businesses at that!

I think the girl in #1 could benefit from at least a visit to a counselor to make sure she's OK. I have raised three teenagers...without hearing threats of suicide. (And really, I've probably heard just about the gamut of teenage emotion.) I'm not sure that's a normal, or OK, comment that should be ignored. And as somebody just said, she needs to keep the crap out of the house if she doesn't want her child eating it...especially if she has been leaving her alone for hours after school every day. Once a woman complained to me about how overweight her 14 year old son was. I offered the usual solutions about keeping healthy food around the house. She said that was no use because he was riding his bicycle to McDonalds daily, sometimes twice, and pigging out. Ummm....where is a 14 year old getting hold of that kid of cash daily? People need to get some common sense in gear.

I have a pretty good feeling #8 IS the nanny in question.

#10 "Prestigue" Nanny...seems a little bit "questchinible" to me.

I just am so depressed by number one that I cannot read anymore. I'll have to get to them tomorrow.
:( so sad.

MinuteMuggle said...

and denver nanny: regarding number one, I do not believe their is any excuse to disrespect your child publicly. saying she is not a nice person? come on. there is a better way to get some help than by degrading her on the internet.

#2 to me looks like someone who uses “txt” typing.
And is Either:
1) Someone is pulling a prank.
Or
2) Someone who has English as their second language and is not fully literate in it to begin with. Not as likely but possible if it is a foreigner who has gotten used to using “txt” speech.
Or
3) Typed what they wanted too fast and sent it off without double checking their post. That and they use “txt” speech allot. So may not think that they need to use proper English usage in their post.

Sadly that 12 year old in number one has some serious issues. :(

And someone wants their physical needs met? Ew!

curious dad,

I think you missed the entire point of #1.

And I think you are a freaking know-it-all. I know many ladies on here think you are funny and of course guys on this site are a hot commodity. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think you're ever really funny. You seem like a snob to me.

number 9 -- I think YOU missed the entire point of curious dad's post. His comments were directed to post #2 and he gave a list of three options for what he believed may have caused the spelling/grammar errors. He didn't say a word about post #1.

SanFranny said...

1) I see that post as a mom wanting to vent on a situation that she isn't sharing with her friends, perhaps because her friends all have wonderful relations with their daughters or would never admit to having a bad thought about their daughters, either. Yes, the daughter seems to need emotional support and an after school job that makes HER help and focus on others that would give her some more self esteem. But the mother seems to be hurting in this situation, too, because the daughter is lashing out on her. She probably saw this post as therapy...

VAnanny said...

number9: I am literally laughing out loud. Curious Dad was in fact talking about post #2. I'm not really sure how you missed that. Your comments were rude and unfounded.

pollwoll said...

That poor child of #1 is no doubt a victim of her horrible, and stupid mother. I hope other people in the area know who the girl is and they can surround her with love and support. Her mother sounds like a narcissistic borderline.

like to know said...

I have no idea how you could get from #1 that mom is a "narcissistic borderline." This is mom's first experience with an adolescent, and she is probably hurt and frustrated by this recent change in behavior. Although she uses some inappropriate language in regards to her daughter, I see that she is concerned enough that she is seeking out a one-on-one caregiver to support her child in this difficult time. It's not fair to place all the blame on the daughter, because her actions are obviously influenced by her environment. However, neither is it fair to place all the blame on the parent. It sounds like they both need some help, and the mom at least is trying to get some in one form or another.

Lola,

A gas station right around the corner of my street has a sign that reads:

Grediet and degite cards must all the ways have a $15 minniman.

Every time I see it I shudder.

World's best, the sign you cited absolutely cracked me up...I am still laughing

IF YOU WANT YOUR INFANTS READY TO READ AND WRITE BEFORE THREE. ITS PRESTIGUE.

Now that is funny!

CuriousDad said...

Number9;
When was I talking about WTF post #1?

I try to write only about areas I have an opinion on, or think I may have a different outlook about then the other posters. Not always mind, but most of the time. Whether my position is right or wrong is for each reader to decide. While I am no where near perfect, stuff like Post #1, I tend to avoid writing about.

number9 needs to get a grip and pay more attention. Curious Dad rocks and I'm sure I'm only one of several that appreciate his posts.
And I still think he's sexy!

Village said...

No need to insult the Dad, although allot is not used correctly. I hate it when I correct someone's English, because I usually manage to make a mistake in the process.

FYI: 'a lot' is correct- At least allot is a word, as in allotment, or to give. Alot is not a word.

just curious said...

Why is everyone nitpicking Curious Dad?

CuriousDad said...

Village; Yes, I did misuse “allot”. Hopefully “allot” will forgive me. I really dislike posting and not being able to fix it, after rereading it the umpteenth time and end up still making a mistake. A lot: Many; Allot: To assign. I tend to write in Word first then cutting and pasting to the blog. It is great for spelling errors, but sadly it does not generally cure the misuse of a word. I do not mind mistakes when I read someone else’s writing. I do mind when they become so prevalent as to make the post hard to read.

Just curious: I would like to think envy. But more likely, no one likes to see someone who looks like they are on a high horse, especially if they are still making mistakes. Minor or otherwise. I know some of my posts can read like I am on a high horse. It is the way I write. And really, only one person nitpicked at me. The other wanted to insult me.

To Everyone Else: If you must use a short cut, can we use CD as the short cut to refer to me? I am not the only Dad that posts on here. just maybe the most talkative.

CuriousDad said...

Number9 were you refering to the previous WTF craigs list post where I talked about post #1? The "Thrustworthy" post?

mom said...

Well, all I have to say is, if you're gonna write "thrustworthy" in an ad...TWICE...let the mocking begin!

Ashley said...

I am surprised that no one mentioned # 22. It is a mom looking for a live in nanny for her 19 yr old daughter's children. Her daughter has a son that will be turning 1 in October and is expecting her next in December! That is pretty crazy.

MinuteMuggle said...

Ashley,

What is crazy about it? They are called "Irish Twins" and I think it's nice that this mom is trying to help out her teen daughter in her time of need. We don't know the situation at all.

MinuteMuggle said...

oops sorry if that sounded un-P.C. (I am part Irish lol) Ok now the flamers are all going to start calling me racist, I'll bet! lol
