At 2 pm on November 9th 2006, at the playground at 96th and Second Avenue I saw a 2 yo boy with dark hair and dark eyes (full head of hair) and a runny nose. Caucasian with medium skin. He was wearing a green long sleeved t-shirt ( with thin light grey horizontal stripes in a pique fabric) with navy trousers and brown shoes. He was roaming around by himself and my friend and I just assumed he was with another woman who also had a child. When we moved to the swing area he came and was hit by one of the swinging swings because nobody was looking out for him. I wondererd who he was with and realized (once she came over because he started crying after he was hit) that his nanny was sitting on a bench with her back to the swing area completely engrossed in some paperwork and an electronic device - maybe a palm of sorts. She came over to the crying boy and put him on a swing. We moved to the jungle gym area after a while and aftera little he was there too and his nanny had once again sat down to tend to her business. WE kept looking over at her and she NEVER once looked up in the 15 minutes we were there. When we were going home, I tried to ask him his name and he did not answer but was very interested in the Elmo lunchbox I had hanging from the stroller. The nanny was still minding her own business . I COULD HAVE PICKED HYIM UP AND WALKED AWAY WITH HIM and she never would have noticed. She only looked up when he followed us on our way out and went closer to her. This poor little child was obviously starved for attention and seemed sad too. Nanny description: About 5.6 south america ( I think) woman, middle aged or a little older, glasses, navy and cream striped sweater, long navy skirt to mid calf and flats. She had a navy BELL jogger with her black leather jacket draped over it. That's all the detail I have. I hope someone who knows them is reading this.

There's a playground at 96th and 2nd? Are you sure it's not 96th and Lexington?
I agree...there isn't a playground at that location. There is one at 96th and Lex and one at 96th and 5th.
u just talking crap about the nanny how about u be a nanny for a week and see how SOME parents treat you!NO FOOD!NO DRINKS!AND 12HOURS OF UP AND DOWN FROM PARK TO PARK WHILE THE PARENTS SIT IN THE OFFICE AND DEMAND THAT YOU WALK UP AND DOWN IN PARKS!
To the poster above....if you don't want to sit in the park for 12 hours, I have a suggestion for you: don't be a nanny. It's really very simple. This is America and you are free to choose a profession. I don't understand people like you. You obviously are not cut out to be a nanny yet you choose to be one and make yourself and the child miserable. FYI, McDonald's is always hiring.
To the 9.42 post. A nanny should not be expected to go from park to park daily with any child for anymore than 2 hours at a time. CHildren get overstimulated. There needs to be balance and the child needs to rest in between time. I hope you are not a Mom who engages in this practice. It is not exactly healthy.
To the person who wrote, "u be a nanny for a week and see how SOME parents treat you", that does not mean you have to treat the child badly. When being a nanny, you have a CHOICE of who you nanny for, and if you know you don't like the parents, then don't take the job. If you need to wait before quitting to find another job, that does not mean that you treat the child any differently then if his/her parents treated you better. It's not their fault and you have a job to do, and atleast keeping relatively constant eye contact on the child is part of that job. That post absolutely enraged me and it's nannies like that who give nannies a bad rep.
Ya know what I would of taken that damn kid and gone to the police and waited for the parents to show. I would be damned if I pay somebody to watch my kid and they are doing other business. To me watching a kid or two is a full time job, you want another job get it when you hubby is watching the kids or when you have no kids to watch, This truly erks me!!!!
Thanks - Mandy
