* Response by angry CL readers:

2) RE: Nanny Needed ASAP (Seattle)
I don't usually respond to things on CL, but I had to this time.......Are you crazy? You posted at 3:51 for a stranger to watch your kids from 6:00 until sometime tomorrow. Have you lost your mind? Do you have any idea the disgusting people out there that are just waiting for people like you to do something stupid like this so that they can get their hands on your kids? Any wacko could respond to your ad. How are you going to know they're not wacko....in the 5 minutes it takes them to pick up your kids from you? Not to mention, you clearly have no regard for your childrens' feelings. How do you think they'll feel being left with a complete stranger, not for an hour or two (which is still wrong), but all night long!!??!!? Unbelieveable! You say you feel as though you are neglecting your children because you are sick. "Honey, mommy doesn't feel good" is a whole hell of alot easier to explain than "Honey, I'm sorry you were molested by a stranger, but mommy really needed a break." I hope no one responds to your ad and I hope your husband knows what kind of woman he's left his children with while he's fighting for our safety. He's risking his life under God only knows what conditions and you are putting his children in harm's way so you can take a nap. You are a horrible, horrible mother and if I had any way of knowing who you are, I would report you to CPS. Suck it up and take care of your kids.

3) RE: Nanny Needed ASAP (Seattle)
Whoever responded to that womans posts needs to mind their own business. Who are you to say anything to this woman about what she should or should not do with her kids!? If you usually don't respond than why start now?? I was actually going to respond and say I could watch her kids, you want to know why? Because there are good people out there! You need to mind your own business! If you want to fly off the handle go do it to YOUR husband! Her husband is married to her for a reason, mind your own business and focus on your own life!
URL: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/kid/1991129781.html

4) RE: Nanny Needed ASAP (Seattle)
Let's get a few things straight, shall we? First, learn the proper use of the words "than" and "then" and THEN you can at least sound somewhat intelligent when you speak.

Second, I chose to respond to this post because it may be THE most outrageous thing I've seen on CL. Also, at last check, it's still legal to express an opinion in this country.

Third, let me make sure I've got the rules straight. I'm a jerk and should mind my own business, but you are allowed to express your opinions about my post. Just wanted to be clear.

Lastly and most importantly, every day children are abducted, molested, and killed. It's our job as parents to protect them from that, not to deliberately put them in a situation where any number of horrible things could happen to them. Several times I have been sick and still took care of my children. Once, I knelt in front of the toilet puking with my 4 children standing around me asking for things. I finished puking, got up, wiped my mouth, and took care of my kids. That's my job and what a good mother does. I know tons of moms and not one of them would consider dropping their child/children off with a stranger for 5 minutes, let alone all night long. Anyone that thinks that is OK should not have children because clearly they are incapable of conscious, meaningful thought. Anyone with connected brain cells knows that type of behavior is reckless, dangerous, and inexcusable. I understand that having a husband deployed and raising kids on your own is difficult and I don't begrudge this woman taking a break when she needs it. I do, however, take issue with HOW she chooses to do it. She should begin a search to interview, meet with, and hire a babysitter that she can call on those occasions that she needs child care, NOT let any random stranger take her kids overnight.

5) RE: Nanny Needed ASAP (Seattle)
I have NEVER posted anything on craigslist. I felt driven to actually create an account just so I could respond to this deplorable "mother" who wants rid of her kids tonight so she can just "sleep forever". I completely agree with the outraged woman in the previous posts. In fact she took the words right out of my mouth...we have all been there as mothers... horribly sick, head in the toilet, taking care of needy little ones, all alone all day!!! No mother I know would even contemplate such a ridiculous idea as to post a craigslist ad at 4pm for a stranger to come at 6pm and take her kids OVERNIGHT!!!! This is a 3 year old and a 5 year old!!! How do you explain to a 3 year old that he will be spending the night with a total stranger, in a total strangers home!! I am sincerely hopping that this woman took too many cold meds and is not thinking clearly, because if this is really who she is as a mother then she should not BE a mother....she needs to be reported to dshs for neglect...she is extremely lucky that her identity is hidden, because I would love to report her myself.

6) Alternative Lifestyle Family Seeks Open-Minded Nanny! (California)
Hello :)
We are currently seeking a very open-minded, kind, and reliable nanny who is great with kids. We have a son (8) and daughter (almost 6) and desperately need some help caring for them. I homeschool them both right now and could really use some help with that, plus some time off. The kids are awesome, very playful, energetic, yet very well-behaved. Our family are naturists and would need a nanny who is comfortable with this lifestyle, even better if you are experienced with the naturist culture. Also a plus if you are able to travel with us once a year. Looking forward to talking with you soon! Jenna

Please email me with your name, number, and a reference (or brief description) of babysitting history.
ALSO, if you have a little one you can definitely bring them with you, BUT please make sure they DONT wake my children up. I just don't feel comfortable having other people babysit my kids when their awake.

15) Family helper sought - just an extra person (Phoenix)
Ok,
My wife and I are busy people. I am also dealing with a non contagious, but difficult medical issue,
so a good portion of my free time is lost due to that, and we just don't have enough hours in the day anymore.
We have a 5 year old child, we're both employed,
and have extra curricular activities like night classes, etc. We're looking for a general
helper to do odd tasks. Light clean up, errand running, picking up the kiddo and
watching him for a couple hours if I or she have to work overtime. Someone who
can do basic shopping for us, etc.
Bluntly,
We're not offering health insurance, or any of those things you'd see with a normal "job" but
we would pay you, tax free, and cover expenses like fuel expenses for driving, etc.. No specific
duty would be "hard" - we'd do those sorts of things ourselves - While I'm mopping the floors,
you could be running to home depot, or target, or costco to fulfill a shopping list. Like I said, we just don't
have enough hours in the day.
We are not 'rich' by any means, but we aren't going to pay minimum wage, either. Seeing as how you
won't be paying taxes, and we'll keep your gas tank full, I am offering $9 an hour for "an extra set of hands",
with flexibility being the main goal. A responsible retiree, an unemployed house wife, or something of the like
would be best. It would also be really helpful if you were close by, and not, say, in queen creek, when we're
closer to Paradise Valley Community College.

we want someone who:
--Can be available within an hour or two notice [this would be rare though] in the off chance that we have some
spontaneous event happen like having to work overtime with short notice
We would almost always be pre-planning your visits to work around what's convenient for everyone
--Has a valid drivers license, relatively new car, with valid insurance, with a big enough back seat to hold
a 5 year old in a car seat. If you already own a car seat, great, but we have them
--Can document that they are a legal u.s. citizen
--is, if possible, Multilingual. Foreign language speakers are great, as we'd love to get our child exposed to alternate cultures
--Realizes that this is just you helping out a busy couple, not a 'career'
--Will not balk at a background check and a drug test. Understand, that part of the duties is
you being involved with our child, so we have to be careful.
--Is generally healthy
--Has some form of CPR/Crisis training, at least know the heimlich, and where the closest hospital is if we have a medical incident
--Can lift at least 50 lbs, and / or can help a big guy like myself to his feet if I were to collapse
--Is computer savvy, and a good bargain hunter, and that may even point out coupons/money saving deals they may have seen
--Loves kids
Who we don't want:
--Someone who themselves is already too busy because they've got a full time job
--People who don't speak english fluently
--Anyone with a criminal record, or any drug history
--"Very" religious people. We have faith, but we are not fanatics, we believe in a well rounded approach
teaching our child evolution, that dinosaurs weren't around the same time as jesus, and that everyone has
equal rights, not just those who the church of your choice happens to approve of.
If you believe that the earth is 5,000 years old, and that global warming is a myth, you're not going to fit in.
--Someone who will agree to work with us, then quit 2 weeks later.
--Vegans who can't keep their POV to themselves. We are carnivores, and don't want some PETA rep coming to us and telling us "meat is murder"
--Anyone in a "12 step program" for anything.
--Anyone involved in a "network marketing" company - We don't want your herbal supplements, cutco knives, or mary kay makeup
--Smokers - we live in a smoke free home, and even if you don't smoke in our house, it carries with you.
The sort of things we'd want you to do:
--Go shopping for us
--Pick up the kid and watch him on some random days if we can't get home until 6 or 7pm [which happens at times]
--Help with basic chores, sweep, clean mirrors or sinks, etc. Deep cleaning tasks [If we ask you to scrub the toilets or something weird like that, would get a little bit extra cash]
--Take the kid to go see the newest childrens movie - we'll provide the tickets and the popcorn, so we can have some alone time.
--If you're with us at dinner time, we'd want you to share the meal with us. I'm a fairly decent cook
--Notice things without having to be told, and offer to resolve issues.
A good portion of your time would be idle work. Playing mousetrap with our kid while I make dinner and the wife does the laundry.
Running him to chiropractor and back so that I can go to my neurologist. Keep him busy watching veggie tales while the wife and I go out for dinner by ourselves

Since I can hire a baby sitter for $5 / hr or less, and I can hire a personal assistant for $14, I think the $9 / hr is a nice fair amount.
If you dislike, or disagree with anything I have to say here, please just keep it to yourself. I am looking for a mutually beneficial relationship -
you get some tax free cash, we get some much needed extra help.

DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO THIS ADVERT, [50 REPLIES IN 3 HRS!] I HAVE TO ADD A FEW THINGS HERE
1) This is totally a part time, irregular pattern type posting. Just someone who I can ask "can you come over two days from now and spend 4 hours helping us" type of thing.. once in a blue moon, we might try to get you to do short notice, but in those instances, it's not mandatory.
I can't imagine any specific week having more than a total of 20 hours cumulative, and can expect it to be much closer to 10 on average.
2) This is not a career, nor is it for someone who is looking for a career out of it, or thinking it's a career builder. It's a glorified baby sitting
position. I posted this in "gigs" because it's just informal work.
Due to the fact that I'm receiving a lot of responses, I'm going to go through everything I get over the next few days before I follow up with anyone to actually sit down and meet with them.

19) Babysitter needed (Seattle)
My daughter is 1 years old, and needs some part time babysitting. She is currently being watched by my mom, but my mom has some major health issues that will cause her not to be able to watch my daughter full-time. I can pay $3 an hour, no more than that. $3/hr is solid. It will be for 6 - 14 days a month, it all depends on my husbands work schedule & mines. My days off are set, WED & THUR, but we may need a babysitter for days we are off as well to catch up on sleep or date nights or just to get things done around the house.

I prefer for my daughter to be watched in my home, but your place is negotiable. Depends where in Yelm you live, because I start work everyday at 1pm & usually leave my house about 12pm to get to work. I prefer you have kids or had experience with infant/toddlers. I definitely need a weekend babysitter for sure friday-sunday. The longest day would be saturdays, that would be a full day. Sometimes fridays. I work 1-9pm fri-tues, and my husbands saturdays are pretty set usually he gets off around 10pm or later. Otherwise he usually gets off before me... the hours your looking at is between 5 - 9 hours at a time. We will keep a log of your hours with both of us initializing the hours.

If you're interested in this please please please give me an email back or text me (360) 556-****. I am rarely on the phone because of work, & my daughter. We are looking to start her being watched starting November, maybe sooner.

20) Looking for a PT Nanny/Babysitter (Seattle)
Hi I have a 6 month old daughter whom I need a babysitter/nanny for.

A little about her: She's a wonderfully easy baby to look after, but she does have some separation anxiety from me. She loves to play, sing songs, and is learning to read. She's a very active child and needs constant entertainment, also does not like to play on her own but with you. Going on walks and being outside is also on her list of "fun things" to do. She is a very busy child and has activities almost everyday including story time and music classes on top of her reading program.

What I need from you: To be between the ages of 20-30. Have experience with infants (duh), prefer you to be CPR certified and have some educational background with child development. I will need you on Mondays and Thursdays from 2pm-6pm sometimes later and on other days of the week also. Light housekeeping is required, mostly picking up after the baby and washing her bottles, laundry on some days. I am very OCD about cleanliness so you MUST keep her as clean as possible. This also requires you to be clean, wash your hands when feeding her or after changing her diaper, don't let her put toys that fell on the floor in her mouth etc. We usually go through 6-7 pairs of clothes a day and countless bibs as she is teething. Please be a non-smoker and drug free.

About me: I'm 23 years old and hold a BA in Psychology. I work part time as tutor in reading and math. I live with my parents and my grandmother. My husband is a soldier and is currently deployed so we have moved back to WA for sometime. We speak English and Hindi in our household, so if you know the language, props to you; if you don't, you wont be barred haha! My pay scale is between $5-7 dollars an hour. I justify that with the fact that she is just one child and not much is required of you besides keeping her clean, safe and occupied, besides she's a really easy child. But my price is negotiable. If you think you're a good fit, shoot me an email. Thank you for your time.

22) Nanny/Childcare needed (Minneapolis)
Need Nanny for 2 children to start Monday!

Children are 4 years and 9 months.

4 year old is in preschool Tues & Thurs from 12:30-3pm so you need to have your own car.

Hours are M-F from 9:00-6:30pm (will more than likely be off earlier but that is the latest).
(You will also have the occasional Monday off).

3 weeks paid vacation, sick days and holidays off.

Unfortunately, we have been out of work for so long and cannot afford a huge salary but are starting the job at $950/month with a performance raise at 90 days and then again after 1 year if you continue on with us. Thank you. We are a young and easy going family and just want to be sure our kids are cared for. Interviewing this weekend to start Monday! Thank you!

24) Affordable Childcare Wanted (North Carolina)
I currently have a wonderful stay at home mother watching my 5 month old daughter during the day while I work. I am seeking a back up babysitter in my area for when she is sick or unable to care for my daughter. I'd like someone patient and loving towards children mainly since she is a baby. I am a single mother and her father split time between taking care of her. Because of this, I'm seeking an arrangement in which I could pay someone by the day rather than a flat price per week. I can afford $30 per day. I know it's not much but I figure it's a little extra cash for a stay at home mom who wants a playmate for their own child (I know my daughter's a little young now). I work full time and need to be at work at 7am so I would need to drop off at 6:45am. I get off at 4 and would be able to come get her by 4:30pm. I would be happy to drop my daughter off or if you wanted to come to my house, that is absolutely fine as well. Location is important and you would need to be within of couple miles of Millbrook/Glenwood Ave. intersection. Email me if interested. I'd love to meet you! Carla
