Pretty disappointing .... (Everywhere) - OP
Hi all ,parents ,nannies, babysitters!!! This letter goes to everyone ,don`t get me wrong, it is my opinion. Lately, people here have shown very different, at some level ,immature way of thinking when it comes to children and child care providers. It`s so disappointing that whenever I post I almost expect someone to correct me or to put my thoughts in a doubt. On the new years day ,I posted an add ,asking if someone could babysit my child ,while I go, celebrate with my husband and friends. My husband happened to work that day/night and I didn`t want to celebrate by myself. So I posted an add for a last minute babysitter. Gosh ,I`m sorry ,but last minute babysitters exist ,I`m one of them. Well sure enough, I got some weirdoes calling me, e-mailing me, harassing me for no apparent reason!!! supposedly I`m crazy for posting such a thing!!!! Ok ,people ,first of all ,this is a website for posting adds about childcare ,I have all the rights in the world to ask for a help, regardless of the situation/occasion. If no one could help me out just, either don`t reply with your crazy thoughts, or at least negotiate the pay, if you get upset about the $10hr rate! What is wrong with you people? have you tried putting yourself in my on any other`s position before harassing and calling names???? Immaturity is something that`s very difficult to fight when so many of you are selfish and self standard!!!! I am a mother, a childcare provider ,and I happened to ask for a help on new years. Am I guilty because of that???? This website has changed in so many ways. I used be able to communicate with so many moms and providers in here.. But now ,it`s a mess, everybody is angry and weird!!! WHAT HAPPENED? And this Shauna case ,is it going to close anytime soon? whenever I come here ,searching for a job, I see, at least 1 post about her MySpace page!!! I ,once, tried to understand this situation, I posted my opinion. Shortly after ,I got blamed and accused of being her!!!! Oh my dear God, will I ever do that again???? This is so stressful and not fair. Get over it already, concentrate on positive a little bit more!!! I`m offended, upset and confused!!! since when I can`t post an add about childcare???Since when I have a fear of others being angry? Have some respect for each other. This is not the end of the world for me ,of course. But I know for a fact ,that while someone searching for a good, reliable nanny here ,on Craig’s list, or posting about their qualifications as a nanny, people like you-angry and weird, cut their chances of succeeding. I don't know about you but I wouldn't leave my child with someone I didn't know, met on the internet, didn't do a background check on, and didn't have several real life references for. Yes, you deserve every bit of backlash you probably received. Shame on you for putting your childs LIFE at stake because you wanted to go out. Do you have any idea how many weirdo's are on this site ALONE??? Just like I`ve found many others before ,kind and reliable. 2.This is not an English class, and if I happened to be from a different country, doesn`t mean I don`t speak English very well!!!! 3.I have all the rights to express my feelings regarding this website ,because people like you, nasty and angry ,make us, normal people not to even bother, coming here ,looking for help!!!!! i'm due with a baby boy in a month & trying to explore my options. i'll be on leave for a month, but in mid-march i'll be needing a regular sitter while dad & i leave for our overnight jobs. the hours you'd be needed are 10:20p until about 6:30a. you'd definitely have thursday and friday nights off (by my schedule) but dad also has 2-3 days off every 6-7 days usually and we'd keep you updated on what those days are at least a couple weeks in advance. i'm not going to pay you 10+ dollars an hour. i can't. i've done a lot of nannying myself and i know the cost of good childcare can certainly be pricey but circumstances here are a little different. i'm young, really easy-going mom to be, and this position should be a pretty easy one, all told. you can come here and go to sleep...or do homework... or sit around and watch cable... or eat all our food in the fridge (but watch out for daddy on that one, lol) or pretty much do whatever you like as long as you get off your bum and tend to my son when he wakes up and needs you. i can't, of course, predict when exactly he'll be sleeping through the night entirely but even until then your work here will be minimal and if you're able to stick around for a while (preferable!) you'll seriously be getting paid to do what you want for 8 hours straight while he's sleeping. i've got to put some thought into the pay rate... it'll likely be a per month arrangement and likely dependent partially on your qualifications and experience. we will definitely discuss it. i cant emphasize enough, though, how very little you'll be required to do and someone who has another PT job or is in school should be able to get quite a bit of sleep if thats how they so choose to use their time. you need to have experience, particularly with newborns or infants. it need not be extensive but you need to know how to feed, diaper, hold, and love a baby. and i mean it. if you harm or neglect my baby, there's going to be big trouble so i ask that you possess common sense in the BIGGEST sense, regardless of the extent of your experience. references are non-negotiable, i want em. i'd obviously like to talk to the parent of a BABY you watched, but if you have experience with olders kids, i'll talk to their parents too. just dont lie to me about your history in childcare. we live at irving park/oakley, right by irving/western. VERY accessible via public transport.. we've got the irving/western busses RIGHT here and you can walk from Ashland or the irving brownline... or hop on the irving bus from the sheridan redline or irving blue line. the stop is right in front of our place. if you have a car, there's usually ample street parking and if you ever have trouble finding anything i can likely arrange something with the restaurant owner downstairs for you to use the lot at night. please contact me if this is something you'd be interested in. i know pay is a very important factor but i need to put a little thought into it in the mean time, but i'll definitely let you know before i ask that you stop by or anything like that. it'll be a great gig if the hours work for you... Yes, I might be crazy, but I thought it would be worth a shot to put an ad for childcare on Craigs List offering what I can afford, which is not much. I am starting up as a substitute teacher when the new year convenes, and I need someone to watch my two kids, almost 3 and almost 1, while I am gone. It's not a hard job, my kids are very good, but I can only give you $100/week to come watch them. That's for both kids, not per child, by the way. (Okay, you can stop laughing, I told you it was crazy). Hello! Our family consists of two amazing little ones, and my boyfriend and I. Our daughter is 5 years old and is in AM Kindergarten, and our son's almost 2 years old. Our daughter is very intelligent and is a great conversationalist. She participates in Swimming, Dance, Gymnastics, Soccer, etc. Our boy is very active, and he is almost always smiling. My boyfriend and I, both work, but we work opposing shifts so at least one of us can be home with our children for most of the day. I went part time at work to compensate for the overlap time, but I will have to return to full time again soon. Also, my Boyfriend's hours will vary due to his job. We are looking for a nanny to work part-time, about 25-30 hours a week, in our home. We would like our nanny to be someone who is loving, patient, attentive to our children, experienced and reliable. It is also very important that you be structured and able to blend in with our routines, as well as incorporate your own. I usually don't respond to posts like this at all but for I feel I must respond now. You want all these wonderful things from a nanny, which I think is perfectly within reason to request. However lets be realistic here $250 a week, 45 hours a week, works out to about $5.55 an hour. Not even minimum wage, would you work for less than minimum wage? As a nanny and long time professional childcare provider I find that insulting, you would pay more than that just for the infant in a daycare and you want one on one care for that much. Parents please remember that you get what you pay for. Most of us out there are loving caring people that provide great care for your children and also have families and children to support ourselves. Ok I will get off my soapbox now....just could'nt let that one get by without saying anything.

Hi there! I am a single mom of two great kids, 11 and 4. I am a flight attendant and have to work three days a week, which requires me to be out of town. I am looking for someone reliable and trustworthy and fun who would be willing to watch the kids on those days, including the two overnights. The kids are on a great schedule and great sleepers, and my 11 year old is independent and doesn't require much more than supervision. I usually work on th fri sat or fri sat sun, and would know my schedule at least two weeks in advance. If week days work better for you, I could bid for those shifts. Also, there might be a time when I'd need someone for one day or evening without an overnight for a single-day flight schedule. Again, I would be able to clear your availability ahead of time. Reliable transportation would be needed, as my son will need to be picked up and dropped off at school.
