The Tooth

This is driving me crazy. We hang out in the family room off the kitchen most of the time. Our family consists of two children, under four and my husband. We have a live-out nanny that works weekdays.  This morning we were enjoying a Saturday morning together. I was on the floor doing a puzzle when I noticed a small object under the sofa. I quickly grabbed it before one of the kids put it in their mouth. The problem is it is an adult sized tooth, and one that would come from further back in the mouth. I called my nanny and told her what I found and she said..."that's weird, it isn't mine". My husband and I literally checked our mouths to make sure our teeth were accounted for. As a mom who plays with her children on the floor and as a mom who makes sure there are no unsafe items on the floor, this tooth was not there last weekend. I am certain. I am really unnerved that this tooth is in the house and we don't know where it came from. I feel the need to find out, as in press the nanny on if she had any company, but I don't want to be accusatory. I don't think she would have since we live in a doorman building and our children are young and keep her quite occupied. Any suggestions? Anyone else have a strange object turn up in their house?

Ask the Doorman. Are there any cameras?

I'm thinking one of the children picked it up outside and put it in a pocket or something without you/nanny noticing, and then it fell out later. The two-year-old twins I used to nanny were obsessed with pocket, and their parents and I just learned not to be surprised at what they brought home. None of them ever had a tooth, though, but if they had found one, they would've put it in a pocket.

I am thinking along same lines of DanishNanny. Kids sometimes see things in the corner of their eye. Probably swooped it up. Without the nanny seeing.

Maybe your husband had some company?
Sorry I'm just kidding!!!! If it was me I would ask the doorman or if it's really bugging you ask if you can see CCTV tapes (if there are any). It would freak me out too, if I found a tooth from another human was under my couch.

So, here is what I am thinking. Someone broke in with the intent to harm you or rob you and something scared him and he ran out quickly, falling over a piece of furniture and knocking his tooth out, which rolled under the sofa, which you found. I wouldn't be satisfied until I had DNA done on it. That's just me. A random tooth under my sofa would not fly.
