I do not understand your stand on no anonymous comments. You allow anonymous submissions of sightings and ensure confidentality of the posters, but why not commenters? You shouldn't even be allowed as an option under "choose an identity" Just saying......

Thanks, MPP! So tired of the anonymous comments. I don't understand what's so hard about making up some random name...

Yeah wtf? You can say "no anonymous comments" until you're blue in the face but people will still do it. Let it go or remove the option in the dropdown menu. People will still figure out how to do it.

Choose your battles MPP.. Try to anonymous commenters or stop bad nannies and caretakers?

Try to stop* anon commenters..

Oh yeah thanks... Stupid phone

Fake and made up name said...

What's the big deal with anonymous comments? People can still use a fake or made up name to remain anonymous. What's the difference? People can give well meaning advice or spew hate under fake names just the same.

I agree. Choose your battles. Not an issue to post anonymous so it shouldn't be an issue to comment anonymous. The rules should be same.

I don't think mpp is making this a big deal. It's difficult to address certain comments when you come in towards the end of a long thread and the poster is one of 9+ anonymous'.

Of course the people who write in shouuld be kept anonymous. Their jobs/safety could be at risk because of the level of detail many OP's have to go into when explaining a situation.

You guys don't have to use your real names (in fact if I had been smarter I wouldn't have) or even have a photo (again...). It just makes it easier to respond to your comments individually.

And if you are the type of person who likes to be a jerkfaced troll in comments, you can use the moniker "jerkface" so you can be distinguished from "ass wipe" and "mega bitch", haha! ;) Even if you use 5+ monikers in the same thread to belittle at least others can easily refer to a past comment.

Whatever, it shouldn't be a problem to comment anonymous. Don't get y

I think both sides have valid points. It really doesn't bother me if someone has a comment that's anonymous.

This should be a non issue...must be a slow day.

I want people to choose a name so that if someone wants to address them, they know who it is. Some readers get confused when trying to follow a thread full of anonymous comments. It also seems to help cut down the bickering and with trolls who just come on board to start trouble.

And the reason I allow confidentiality for those submitting sightings is because they won't do it if there is potential backlash from outing a bad nanny.

And I have no control over what Blogger allows... the ability to post anonymous comments can not be changed.

mpp works very hard on her own time to present a blog that gives us all food for thought and helps children - why not do the polite and respectable thing and follow her wishes

ha ha lyn - jerk and a$$ wipe - yep exactly

Don't you know that you can't comment anonymous. Ooh I'm telling on you lol!
Not a big deal people :0

Some people are so disrespectful. MPP puts in her own personal time to run a blog for child safety, if you don't like the "hassle" of taking 2 seconds to make up a moniker, then leave. Her blog, her rules.

RaleighWorld said...

I take the 2 seconds but I'm not going to get in a tizzy over an anonymous poster. I have more things to think about, like addressing Op in their rant/opinion/perspective/nanny siting...

I suggest we do the same and let people express their free will to remain anonymous if they want to and keep to ourselves. Really tho.. What is this thread accomplishing? Is it helping a child who was mistreated by a nanny? No. How about helping an overworked, unappreciated nanny? No .

Razzle Dazzle said...

+1 for Lynn, RBTC, just_curious, and of course MPP.

*If you found this post a "non-issue", why comment? Just move on to the next.

*MPP blog, her rules.

either remove the option for anon comments or don't complain. as long as you have the option available for anon comments, people will use it. if you hate anon comments so much, why do you offer it as an option??

RaleighWorld said...

Ok yeah that's fine, why don't you not read other peoples posts and not find that your question was asked by me and answered by mpp herself... Jeez.

RaleighWorld said...

Makes butt kiss noises on behalf of razzle-freakin-dazzle

It's such a non issue that we need to be reminded of what the real issues are!

Yep, sure do.

Der! said...

A Non Y Mous!! - you're such a dumbass! The anonymous option can't be removed from blogger, didn't you read the other comments?

dingding.com said...

Its IMPOSSIBLE to have a conversation when you have several people & comments listed from "anon." How hard is that to understand??

MissMannah said...

Ugh, this thread is so stupid. I've been trying to avoid this one but I can't keep my mouth shut any longer. People, just play by the rules! Don't question it, just do it! I agree with the PPs who said it is confusing seeing a dozen different people posted as "Anonymous." Back before we had this rule, people used to respond to other posters by saying "Anonymous @ 1:15pm." It was very hard to follow longer conversations.

MaryPoppin'Pills said...

Readers that have visited this Blog more than once know not to post Anonymously. It is mostly newcomers doing it because since this has been on the front page I have only had to remove 3 comments, which is amazing! ;-)

I know in the grand scheme of things this isn't a big deal but the night before this was published I had to delete over 2 dozens comments and it was just annoying and time-consuming.

Thanks to everyone for giving your thoughts... good, bad or indifferent!
