Nicknames

OPINION
I am interested in what other nannies are called by their charges? And who came up with what they called you... you, the child, or the parents?

I am called by my first name. It was never discussed, it just happened. I think it is a personal preference. The nanny down the street is known as "Miss (First Name)", so it really depends.

I was always called "Miss" so and so by the kids. I wondered how I'd be addressed but they got it from a daycare before I was hired, I think.

I am just called by my first name. Not sure how it came about but it just happened. If a parent rather I be called Miss I wouldn't mind.

I am miss Ali (Alexandra is too hard to say) :)
The parents said from the beginning they want a certain level of respect from the kids

I call the kids pumpkin and nuggie (nuggie is what the parents call their son)

"My" kids have always called me Miss Lyn. I've never asked to be called this but it was important to the parents and I surely don't mind helping to raise children with manners. :)
I call my charges Taylor-bug, helper monkey and during lunch "hungry hippos". :)
I call my nephew "weasel". Boy Meets World mentioned that as a nickname for a little one and I thought it was weirdly cute. 12 years later he is still my weasel :)

My charges usually call me by my name w/a little variation. For example, they like to call me "Smashley"...

Younger children usually call me Miss Ashley while older ones just call me "Ashley." ☺

I was called Mary Poppins. My name is Mary, and I did the umbrella thing. It was a different time.

My last charges called me gagy. Shortly after starting I was in the car with the whole family. One of the babies started yelling "gagy, gagy!" Finally his mom said, I think he's talking to you. Sure enough he was trying to get my attention, and the name stuck. My new charges call me Aya. They couldn't say my name when I started, and Aya was as close as they could get. Again, the name just stuck!

I go by miss Bridget or b
The nanny down the street goes by
Nanny (her name)

I honestly don't like the idea of being addressed as nanny so and so, it sounds ridiculously old fashioned

I make up cute names for them everyday. Under my breath I call them pain in the asses, or brats

My current charge can pronounce my name properly so he just calls me Cassandra. But...being that it's such a large name I have had a few garbled versions of my name that "stuck". It may seem silly but I actually like having a special name made up by my charges.

Some versions of Cassandra have been :
(phonetically spelled)
Sha- from my brother who is 13 years my junior
Ahn-jah- from my very first charge
Shoon-jah
Strandra
Shank-ah

My charge used to call me Ogre until I told MB and she made him stop. He would still call me hurtful names based on my size, but I grew to love him. I saw him about a year ago and the kid is about 15...and as plump as the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.
Little porker got a taste of his own medicine...or should I say fried chicken!!!!

omg the ogre thing. Not laughing at you, but that made me crack up!!

I've definitely watched children who would say something like that!

I'm called by my first name. I think when I first interviewed, my mb asked what I would prefer the kids to call me and I said first name.

For a few families I provided as needed care for, I'm called Ms. Zarine. The parents tell the kids to call me that. It's fine with me either way.

I'm called Ni-Ni as my charge could not say Brittany when I started. It has stuck.
