What's the Going Rate for This Nanny?

opinion 1
How much should my rate be? I live in South Eastern Mass. With 1 year experience as a nanny and 3 years as a daycare teacher. I have really good references. I will care for infants up to age 7. I'm willing to work full-time and do some housework for the children, make their food, and take care of their laundry etc. This will be my only income. Is $450-$650 reasonable? Should I go higher or lower?

I am also from south eastern mass! I think it depends on the number of children and their ages. If you have two young children (an infant and a toddler), it can be quite challenging but a toddler and a preschooler would be a little easier, just as an example.

However, for one child in our area, I would charge about $12 and then go up from there with more children. Probably another dollar or two per child. It really depends on the family and what chores they are looking for you to do. I worked for a family with an infant and charged $13 per hour with very limited chores and I was happy with that. Any other questions about our area, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the in put! I'm finding it hard to find jobs around here. I've received offers from people, but, they either don't want to pay taxes or the only want to pay flat rate for week like they would for daycare. I actually wouldn't mind a flat rate, but I need more than $100 a week.
Do you have suggestions of places to find a job? Agencies or websites? I'm already on Care.com, SitterCity , and some others. I've looked on Craigslist too.

OT How do you feel about the Pats going to the Superbowl again?

Forgot to ask would you do $12 before or after tax?

I'm from your area too, and have similar background. I work 40 hours spread out over 4 days.

I charge $12.50 for 1 child
and add a dollar for each child after 1. I also only work with babies and toddlers and I don't do any household cleaning.

I always found my jobs on care.com but I did find that a lot of families didn't want to pay taxes!

I think $12 before taxes is acceptable but if you can, I think you should be able to get a little bit more. I worked in the metrowest area of mass for a bit and while it is more money (closer to nicer towns like Watertown, Newton, etc) it is a pain to commute to. I made that mistake and totally regretted it. Don't take a job up 95north during rush hour!

Oh and go patriots! Can't wait for the superbowl!

I would avoid CL like the Plague. I have yet to find a nice family via this free + public website.

I use sittercity and Care.com. I find families who are willing to invest a little dough in finding a Nanny vs. those who don't make much better employers and are not so cheap.
