Loss of Morality and the Need to Respect Human Life

in the news 3 Horrifying footage of a 2-year-old girl in China being run over by two separate vehicles and left to die by passersby has stirred outrage throughout the country, with CNN reporting that security footage of the incident has led the nation of 1.3 billion people to do some collective soul-searching.

According to Shanghaiist, the two-year-old, who has been identified as Yueyue, was run over on Thursday outside of a hardware market in Foshan in southern China's Guangdong province.

Security camera footage shows a driver in a white van hit the young girl, apparently crushing her under the weight of the front wheel. The driver pauses briefly, but then continues to drive forward, running over her with the back wheel.

The following video shows more than a dozen passersby walk, ride motorbikes or drive past the young, bleeding girl without stopping to help.

I read about this, and it truly makes me sick to think about how little they care about human life. Apparently, in that part of China, if you rush to someone's defense or aid, you are considered to be responsible for their injuries. (ie: had anyone rushed to the child, they would have been blamed for running over her)

When coupling this with the obvious disparate treatment of girls and women in China, it's just reprehensible.

Jesus..what the fuck is wrong with people?! My daughter is two as well, and I can not even begin to imagine the horror of this. I had to turn it off halfway through, I literally couldn't watch another second.

Does not suprise me! They boil live cats and dogs to get the fur off before they eat them! Saw it on a HBO documentary.

That was awful. The worst part was that the first driver continued over her after a pause. And then so many people passed her.

They don't get blamed for the crime, they have financial responsibility, accordnig to the article linked to the story. I'm assuming they have to pay the hospital bill.

I can't believe I watched this on purpose.

This is the most upsetting thing I've seen in a very long time.

I seriously DON'T understand how some "people" thought that this was an okay thing to do. It was done with purpose. People walked by on purpose.

I feel sick as well. I'm also angry. Not a good way to start the day!

There was something similar that happened here in the US not that long ago. A man was run over (forget if it was on purpose or an accident) and the driver kept going and people walked by the guy dying, some even say it happen and didn't bother to do a damn thing.

All of this makes me sick, how can we call ourselves humans when we walk right past someone who needs help?

I didn't watch the video, I knew it would make me sick. Even reading the story made my heart hurt. Something needs to be done about the laws so that citizens are able to help without being liable for the cost of the hospital bills. Personally, if we had laws like that here, I would be broke because it doesn't mayer what the consequences would be, I could NEVER watch something horrible like that happen and not help. But, its really sad someone would have to make that decision.

the world is a sick place. Hence why I hate most people. Like those fucking fools in Ohio who are killing those loose animals on sight. What a bunch of fucking assholes. I hope one of them gets severly mauled and lives through it so at least one of the "beasts" can get theirs before they get taken out. Such loss.

Oh yeah and there was one incident where a man got hit by a car out here in Phoenix. Now not only did most people walk by him while he was dying. Someone else stoll his groceries, while another went through his pockets and took his wallet and shoes.

Stay classy Arizona

I just read an article the other day about a lady who passed out at work. Some of her coworkers came to her aide and started CPR. Their manager told them to stop and get back to work, and threatened that they would be responsible if she died. Well, they did stop and she did die. But they would not have been responsible had they continued helping her because we have Good Samaritan Laws, and she might have survived had they continued CPR.

But, IMO, this video is just reprehensible! Usually, normal people's instincts kick in when they see an injured or suffering child. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw people look right at her and keep going! They could have, at the very least, called for help or tried to find her parents!

Besides that, though, why was the little girl wandering around outside alone anyway? There's some liability on the part of the parents, too. I'm glad she survived and I pray she makes a full recovery.

Where the heck were her parents??? I hope, if she makes it, they don't give her back to those people.

The whole story is just horrible. But the first people to blame should be her parents for not watching her.

Yueyue has passed away =(

I hate to say this she is better off now. Even if she survived I am sure she would be severely brain damaged, and crippled for the rest of her life.

Prayers to her family.

oh that is sad. But I am glad that she is out of the pain and horror that has become her body. She would forever be traumatized. May she rest in peace

I could never bring myself to watch that video. All I need to know is that the little girl was ran over and the man just drove over her! He drove over her, for fear of having to pay thousands. Unreal. Also, why would a mother leave her 2 yr old alone? Even for two seconds?!?! What is wrong with this woman? She should be jailed too. The people who walked by and didn't even bother calling an ambulance or finding the mother... gosh. I hope karma gets them back.

Warning this video of the little girl has gone viral and if you watch it, your computer could be infected with a virus. Someone posted this warning on my facebook page.(20/10/2011) I did watch it and had tears in my eyes.As a nanny i hate to see children suffer like this. She has now gone to a better place.

Nanny 1,
"Going Viral" does not mean the video has a virus...

It means that it has become extremely popular in a very short amount of time and is showing up all over the internet:

Well. When i watched this video on facebook a couple of minutes later i had a warning pop up from the virus software company EG Norton say a worm virus had been dectected. and blocked . i am not sure wich worm virus it was as alot of numbers and letters appeared before the word worm. Also alot of people have commented that it has a virus in it.

Nanny 1,

Maybe there are some sites showing this video that are questionable, I don't know, but the video on this Blog is perfectly safe.

Thank you for the heads up.

Nanny 1 said...

Thanks for clearing that up Mary Poppin'Pills.Obviously the facebook video is the one not to watch. i wish i did not watch this little girl being hit, as a couple of nights ago i dreamt that the 18 month old boy i look after got hit by a car in exactly the same way this little one got hit. Plus when i see little ones her age at the park i think of her and the video. I live and work in Melbourne Australia and it was on the news here as well. Only the story not the video.

Hi again . to mary poppin pills. i just watched this video you posted .i t was different to the one i saw on facebook. The one on facebook had no commentery and had very haunting music added to it. Which made it sadder to watch. As i mentioned in my previous post it gave me a nightmare of the 18 month old i look after being run over by a car in exactly the same way as this little girl. The horrible thing is that all the comments on facebook blame the little girls parents as they say the parents should of been watvhing her. i had to hide this friend from my facebook page as i could not go on seeing anymore of her psts about this incident. my heart goes out to the mother and father of this little girl.
