Dream A Little Dream Daycare, Waltham MA

bad nanny sighting I live just down the street from this small family daycare, and have seen children unattended outside on more than one occasion. Today as I drove by on my way home from work, I saw four young children (3 or 4 years old I would say) sitting in a wagon, and an additional child standing next to it. They were in front of the house on the side walk without an adult. I drove by, took a u turn, came back and they were still unattended. I snapped a picture with my phone. I hope that a parent from this daycare sees this.

This is a great example of a legitimate bad nanny sighting.
Good work OP.

OP, perhaps you can use this photo and let someone (the police, licensing, CPS, etc.) know what you saw. If this were my child, I would want to know. My God. These children could have been snatched up. Or the wagon could have went out in the street, etc. Shame on whoever runs this bogus daycare.

Wait...is that a grown-up sitting on the viewer's right side on the porch??

There definitely is someone sitting on the porch, but it looks like a teenager to me. Doesn't look like the owner of the daycare. She is also not close enough to the wagon to ensure the children's safety. I'd say this is a viable sighting.

I'm sorry, these children are not out there alone! There is someone sitting right on the porch! Bogus sighting! You made it sound as if the kids were outside by themselves when they very obviously are not, and, that person is plenty close enough to jump up and grab someone if something went wrong! people aren't supposed to be sitting on top of the kids 24/7.

OP here,
that is not a person. Its a car seat sitting on top of the railing. Not a bogus sighting.

Hmm, now that you mention it, it could be a car seat. Sorrry, OP! I take back what I said, I even wanted to give the person the benefit of the doubt. maybe they had to run inside real quick, but, you even came back and still no one out there!

The pic had to be edited in size to fit on the blog. It was much larger, and OP is correct, that is a car seat.

Ok. Yes that does look like a car seat. At first I thought it was a person too. How come you didn't stop and knock on the door to let them know the kids were outside? I do this to people. I see a kid outside and I ask where they live and they show me and I march right on up to the door and tell the adult there that the kid was playing in the road. Usually they don't know and are quite happy that I came up to the door.

Could we change it to bad daycare sighting? I think would be great to branch out from nannies to all child care providers. I've seen some very neglectful daycare providers at playgrounds and on field trips to the zoo etc.

Even if there was a person sitting on the porch, she probably would not be able to see the children because the porch post and the bush would be in her way. Also, regarding your comment "people aren't supposed to be sitting on top of the kids 24/7" - it's true, but it would not be acceptable for the children to be sitting in a wagon while the adult watches. They should be running around and playing. A wagon should only be to transport the children from one place to another.

the primary issue here is certainly the legitamacy of the sighting rather than the safety of the kids LOL

Bostonnanny,
That is definitely something to think about... thank you for the suggestion.

I will see what can be done. The Blog is ready for new templates anyway. ;-)

Wow, yes, kids should be playing, but, they do sometimes want to sit, lol! They see a wagon and think it's fun to sit in it. but, the problem here is no supervision, so, that point is mute

I don't think a wagon is just for carting kids around. I used to play with my RadioFlyer all the time. I would pull all kinds of useless artifacts. I don't know why the wagon became a big deal. Kids will play with them ALL the time. The problem is that no one is watching.

What a strange thing to say. People never cease to amaze me.
