Water Park on Pier 25 in Tribeca - Manhattan, NY

bad nanny sighting I saw some disturbing behavior from a nanny this afternoon (Friday, August 5th) at 4:00 pm at the water park on Pier 25 in Tribeca. I didn't see what transpired up to the point I saw her interacting with the girl (4-5 with brown shoulder-length hair, maybe a lavender shirt, but not positive), but this young white nanny (who looked early 20s) with braces (which I think were on the inside of her teeth), light blue t-shirt, black shorts, dark blonde hair in a braid and large sunglasses was *very* rough with her. I first noticed her because she was shouting at the girl and then proceeded to shove her hard on the chest into a black Maclaren stroller. The girl was crying and I couldn't help myself and said, "I think that kind of physicality is really unnecessary" (or something) to which she replied, "She keeps running away from me!"

I don't know what had happened before with the girl, but her physical aggression was very upsetting and wrong. She left the park and I could hear her shouting "I don't care!" at the girl, who was sobbing at that point. Let's just say if that were my kid, I'd want to know.

Horrible, horrible...just horrible. For the Nanny to push the girl in the chest...

Thanks for sharing.

so how would you have handled it? Wait! Honey bunches don't run away, deary. Please! Oh please come back! Don't you know running is bad and the world is full of marshmallows and gum drops.

how were the braces on the inside of her teeth? I don't get it.

Totally not in the spirit of the post, but WTH is a 4 or 5 year old kid doing in a stroller? Irks me

I was wondering about that too. Is this a new thing where they put braces on the other side of the teeth so people can't see them? But then how would one know they were there?

They are putting braces on the other side of teeth now (double ouch--could you imagine how bad that would tear up your tongue??). Maybe the lady had a "braces lisp." IDK

how was this poster that close that she could see the braces inside the teeth?

And while it may not have been warranted to push the child, unfortunately stress of a child continuously running away gets to people. Even a parent. Let alone a nanny.

OP- Just curious...do you actually know this nanny or have seen her before? My question is because of the braces thing. I've had permanent braces on the back of my teeth for many years, as have a couple other people I know, and NOBODY ever notices them unless they're pointed out...or they're incredibly close to my mouth. Even guys I've kissed haven't noticed them. You give such a thorough description of her, it just rung a bell for me as a sighting by someone who might know the nanny, at least slightly, was trying to do the right thing by calling her out, but didn't necessarily want the finger pointed at her by a fired nanny. (And it's ok if that's what's happening!)

Not excusing this nanny at all- it's a frustrating situation, but it's not that hard to refrain from pushing a child. Millions of frustrated parents and nannys manage to do it every day! I hope the child's parents do see this.

(And for the person questioning about the girl being in a stroller at that age- they're in NYC. They may have had to walk quite a few blocks, as well as deal with public transportation, in order to get to this location. Add on all the normal water park tuff you'd need- towels, sunblock, snacks + drinks, change of clothes, etc.- PLUS a child with a tendency to run away...I'm not a stroller fan myself, but this scenario is definitely stroller worthy.

I live in NYC, there is no reason for a 5 year old child to be in a stroller, it's disgusting! If they are so far from where they have to go, then use public transportation.
A 5 year old in a stroller is just going to grow up to be a coddled human being. You put your stuff in a backpack if you can't carry it. I'm sorry kids this age in strollers is a sore point for me, I see so many kids in NY being coddled and cajoled, our jobs as parents and adults is to help make them good adults, not to think that the world revolves around them

I would run away from the nanny too if I was in a stroller at that age.

Screw the strollers, what about 5yo kids still sucking on a paci? Nothing gets me more irate. Its a parents duty to take that damn thing away at an appropriate age so that it doesn't affect the childs speech or growing of their teeth.
