Bad Parenting at Newton Center Playground - Newton, MA.

rant 1 An unfortunate sighting today at the Newton Center playground. Newton, MA. A man (the child's father) was yelling loudly and caught the attention of almost everyone in the park before leaving. The father tried to gather his child and tell her it was time to leave. He came on a bicycle with a yellow bike trailer and a silver mountain bike. The child became upset and wouldn't get into the trailer and the father became infuriated with the child. He was yelling in a very abrasive way "get in there" "right now", loud enough for people to notice. I am usually pretty reserved, I let people use their own discipline methods. But he was picking the child up, throwing them forcefully into the trailer, the child was screaming. It was not a normal management of behavior. A few times, the child's feet would be thrown backwards over her head. I didn't get a good view of what she was wearing but many witnesses were watching, and the man was dangerously agitated. He upset many other fathers, mothers, and nannies at the park. Someone asked him to quiet down and he sped off in his bike toward Newton Center, cursing at the person and his child. So sad if he was keen to act that abrasive in public, I fear for the behaviors at home.

I holler at my kid sometimes when she doesn't want to leave where we are.

I don't really get what happened. But if my child needed to be hollered at in public and someone said something to me, I'd curse at them too.

You say he "cursed" also at his child. What did he say? I'm curious.

I don't know who is supposed to benefit from this sighting. The mom surfing the internet trying to find out how the dad treats the kid? If this was the father and he didn't physically harm his kid then nothing can be said. It doesn't matter if he was yelling at her. And he was upset for a good reason. No one should have butted in unless he was physically hurting her. Someone said something to my step son once in public that was deliberating telling my kid to not listen to his father. Why are people so nosey?

As for yelling at the child,w el, if the child wasn't listening perhaps yelling was the way to go. I'm not into that "oh dearie, will you please go sit down for mommy snookums", while the kid screams and yells and tells the parent what to do parenting.

But, if he was throwing the child so violently that her feet were flying a around, that is a problem. Cursing at the child is also out of line, though, I can see why he would curse the people telling him how to raise his kid.

I witnessed this happening yesterday as well. I think the person who posted this was just as angry as I was about how this father was acting towards his child. if this father was acting like this in public to his child, how does he act at home to her?
there isn't a place for people to post about bad parenting, so putting it on a nanny blog could maybe help this little
girl if her mother happens to come across it.

Odds are, the mom already knows how the dad treats their child. I really don't know what this posting is supposed to accomplish.

That is so sad...that poor child. Why do parents humiliate their children like this when they are disciplining them??!

I agree...I shudder to think what happens at home.

God Bless this poor little child. :(

Most likely the mom knows about his behavior to his child and most likely he's yelling at the mom like that too.
