.... WHAT?!
1) LOVE KIDS AND DOGS?? (Milwaukee)
Looking for a wonderful person to care for our twin boys two days a week preferably Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-6pm on a long-term basis. Please note: Our house is a zoo! We have two big dogs who are our first children and must be treated as such - and 2 1/2 year old twin boys who are into EVERYTYHING. So, the ideal candidate must be quick on their feet, love chasing, playing and running with them all as well as reading and quiet time. Only candidates who truly LOVE dogs and toddlers should apply. The right person would also be organized and willing to clean up with the boys as they moved from project to project and after them at the end of each day.

What is wrong with the featured post? I must have missed something but it just sounds like they must love dogs. Unless it is because it says, "first children and must be treated as such" but I don't take that to mean they love their children any less or anything. I guess I just assumed it as a joke because people say that a lot :)
Add 14, you prefer a living nanny as opposed
to what a dead nanny.
I just had to reply to #10.
You have got to be kidding me! With your spelling and grammar, I highly doubt you could teach a child anything. It's apparent that someone as uneducated as yourself couldn't get hired anywhere, so now you are trying to start up a daycare. It's sad that anyone can run an unlicensed home daycare with little to no education, experience, or training. I don't care if you are a dropout, english is not your first language, or you type fast. There is this thing called spell check that could help a ten year old appear more educated than you. I took it upon myself to fix your ad. Feel free to copy and paste.
Hello! My name is LaShonda. I am 20 years old and just getting started with my daycare. I am willing to care for children between the ages of 12 months and 4 years and am available Monday-Friday, 5am-6pm. We will work on the alphabet, colors, numbers, etc. Your children will be in good hands, and have fun! I am willing to work with your budget and am happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to e-mail me any time, and I will make sure to answer promptly. Thank you.
I agree Alex, the featured post sounded cute to me. A lot of people love their dogs and joke that they are their "other children."
I also really liked the sound of #34. Too bad I'm only 27 years old and therefore grossly under-qualified. I was looking forward to sitting in the Jacuzzi under the waterfall while feeding the ducks with all their ample bread loaves.
nannyneedsanap,
you need more than a nap. you need to stop being so elitist. there is not much wrong with number 10. you do not have to have an education to provide quality childcare, and the fact that you do not have to be licensed to care for children in your home is neither here nor there.
so this chick is kind of ghetto, probably black, didn't go to college on her daddy's dime like you probably did, and needs work. good for her for trying to make an honest dollar. Wake up. There are as many different ways to live as there are people in this world. Why are you so shocked by this ad? Do you live under a rock?
you are so judgmental and snotty that I would much rather have LaShonda care for my kid than you.
so tired: are you kidding me? I wouldn't leave my child with LaShonda if she PAID ME!
so tired,
It's not a matter of education to me. It's a matter of the level of care she demonstrated. To me that was none. I'm not looking for perfection, but come on? If she were able to as far as she did without help, she should have been able to proofread her work and clean it up at least a bit. She chose not to. To me this raises a question, what would she chose to skip in the care of my child?
Indeed from my point of view, nannyneedsanap was too kind and I would have preferred it if she hadn't given this woman any assistance.
Err, choose. Darn. That escaped my own proofreading, but again, I'm not looking for perfection. I don't hold people to standards I can't meet. :)
Anyone looking at the Seattle ads like 28 and 35 know that Washington State's minimum wage is $8.55 an hour and it does apply.
so tired of elitist nannies,
I wouldn't leave my child with someone who speaks ebonics, or in an unlisenced childcare. I want my children to learn proper english and grammar, and grow up to be educated members of society. I would also want their daycare to meet my state's health and safety standards. There is a reason unlisenced daycares are unlisenced.
So tired:
I'm not going to make any judgments on your child-rearing philosophies, as I do not know you. However, I would never in my life leave a child with a woman who spoke or wrote like LaShonda, much less pay her! No, you do not need a college education to be a good nanny--I don't have a degree either, before you accuse me of that atrocity. But I did graduate from elementary school English class, where I learned such fundamentals as punctuation as capitalization. And while the occasional mistake is bound to slip through, we have a wonderful little device called Spell Check, so you can be as lazy and ignorant as you want and no one has to know about it. LaShonda seemed to almost pride herself on her poor writing skills, purposely leaving letters out, perhaps so she could "connect" with her clientele on a more personal level? She obviously does not consider herself a professional, and if she did, she could likely make a few extra bucks. Haven't you ever heard that you only get to make a first impression once?
*AND capitalization, not as. No one is perfect, but at least some of us try.
nannyneedsanap,
For someone who is so into grammar and education like you are I would think you would know that "unlisenced" is spelled "unlicensed". Just saying.
I think the bottom line is just about acceptance. And it is not about whether or not you would hire a black girl named LaShonda who speaks all ghetto to care for your kids. It's about the way you see the world, and how good you are at accepting how life really is, and how you deal with that. The bottom line to me is that childcare is just that: it is caring for children. You can be a skilled childcare provider and not be good at marketing yourself. Does LaShonda lack marketing skills? Certainly. Is she a good childcare provider? I don't know. I would have to meet her. If I met her and I liked her and I got a good feeling from her and her background check and references came back good: I may hire her over a nanny who speaks correctly and wrote a beautiful ad. I just might.
As far as having an unlicensed daycare, I don't really think that is an issue. In my state, you are not required to be licensed if you have less than four children. I myself did home daycare for years when my child was young. I had no license, and my two clients stayed with me for years. You as a parent have a right to choose a childcare provider/nanny/sitter who is right for you. If people look down on you for your choices or think you are negligent for your choice, just keep in mind that most people think they are the best thing since sliced bread. Most people have a very distorted perception of themselves. They think of themselves as wonderful, when in actuality they are really just jerks who think everyone should be exactly like them. It's sad.
ok you can say whatever you want about LaShonda being a good provider despite her lack of education. but lets all be honest..are you really going to respond to that sloppy ad? i highly doubt it
If you are advertising for clients on Craigslist, your ad is going to be parents' first and only impression of you. If you are careless in your presentation, the impression parents will get is that you are careless in general. As portland mom queried, would the same lack of effort applied to her ad also be applied to children in her care?
I really don't care how she talks, but running a spell check is free, quick, and at least shows that some thought and effort has gone into her work.
the first one has NOTHING wrong with it.
23 is hilarious. just saying
so funny:
I don't find the required level of denial #23 has to be in funny.
#14: I wonder how many dead nannies they've had?
Shaking my head at all these people who act like it's some fantastic perk that they will actually offer to pay for their own child's food, their own child's diapers, and their own child's admission to movies, zoo etc. On top of that $1.77/hr salary. Wow, what an offer!!
So Tired:
As a nannies, we are expected to be a solid example of what a child is to mature into... This includes the capacity to communicate within the boundaries of their social/educational abilities. I believe the best way to start kids off is properly, so as not to have to retrain or "fix" them later...
LaShonda hasn't the communication skills needed to bring up children (Or perhaps she's just careless and as such would be a terrible choice for ANY family, including yours) in the way the families looking to hire a nanny would approve. They PAY for their children to be cared for as they themselves would and are entitled to hire on the basis of first and other impressions.
And shame on you for assuming that those of us who are capable communicators fed off "Daddy's dime"? Some of us grew up in those same poverty stricken areas/families and we worked hard to be smarter so we could get out of the those situations. (By the way, I currently only hold a HS diploma.) We want honest pay, so we work smart and learn how to adapt to the families that entrust their legacies to us. Poorly communicating caregivers, teachers and guardians lead to poorly communicating children.
But then, that's just my opinion...
