De Niro's Nanny Sues Actor for $40G in Back Pay
A nanny who was fired by Robert De Niro has sued the actor for more than $40,000 in overtime pay. Alexis Barry says in court papers that she was never paid for more than 750 hours of overtime and never took 10 vacation days. She began working for De Niro and his wife, Grace Hightower, in August 2006, and says she was fired 10 months later — after she said she was going to quit. The couple have an 11-year-old son.

Barry says she is owed more than $40,000. She filed a lawsuit Friday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court.

Yeah, I don't get what took her so long....doubt she'll get it now that she waited.

Hopefully suing is a last resort when other attempts to settle fail. That would explain the three year delay, (which is not unusual). As a juror, I am going to be harder to convince if the plaintiff has rushed to sue. There is nothing more frustrating than spending days on a jury for a frivolous suit.

I have always wondered what it would be like to work for a "famous" person. I'm sure that my perception of how great it would be is far from reality. But it would be fun to spend a year working for a celebrity. Has anyone on here worked for someone famous or high profile? You don't have to share names (unless you want to ;)) I would love to hear any stories..!

Probably did it as revenge. The DeNiros will be in trouble with the state for not paying the overtime and will settle to get rid of her.

Another reason nannies need to be on the books, a disgruntled employee can cause a mountain of trouble when fired in cash situations.

I havent worked for a celebrity but my cousin worked for Demi Moore when her kids were babies. She said they were nuts and lived like hillbilly pigs.Demi and Bruce attended a party with the baby and got drunk and left the two year old at the house when they left! The hostess called them and they said theyed come get get her. A limo was sent with NO Bruce or Demi to get the crying toddler

Nanny Ash,
Read "You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again" by Suzanne Hansen. It is set in LA, and she names names. The title comes from the threat a high profile employer made when she quit.
