what a cute meez picture. there is a park in our area that is so well set up. Baby swings and big kid swings, climbing structures with soft footing underneath(in case of a fall) a sand pit,a train, huge slides that come out of a small mound of earth,a climbing wall,a consession stand,a rope bridge, and a peek at the ocean. It is really wonderful. Big kids and little kids love this park. They also have a hedge maze about 4 feet tall and lots of ducks and pick-nic tables. Our kids love it!
I love Van Saun Park. Its located off Forest Avenue in Paramus, NJ.
They have a small zoo, a colorful train that goes around the park (my son's favorite). He loves going on the train. They also have a carousel (his other favorite thing). And many other things to do. You can have a picnic there or buy from the college students working from the carts, hotdogs, burgers, ice cream, etc.
They also have an area where the kids can ride on ponies, and a nice park to play in.
I don't know if anyone else has heard of it, but in Va. Beach they have a huge landfill covered mountain that the city turned into a park. It is amazing. It's called Mt. Trashmore, lol. It has a skate park, picnic tables/grills, the mountain has steps going all the way to the top that's a challange for walkers/joggers, horseshoe pits, lakes that you can go windsailing on and the best part is Kid's Cove. It is a kiddie wonderland with all kinds of swings, climbing stuff, ropes, bridges, tires, slides, treehouses. So much more, but it makes me wish I was a kid again!
Central Park of course! It has a wide variety of playgrounds (21) throughout the park each with it's own character and features. some of the special theme ones are: Wild West, Ancient, Adventure, Safari, Mariner's Playground. Then there are the Children's Zoo, carousel, boat pond, Victorian Gardens amusement park, the skating rink, ball fields, turtle pond, Met Museum for rainy days., and of course you can just play on the grass, feed the ducks, climb on rocks or explore the woodsy parts!
I didn't want to ruin the incredible Proust thread by writing anything in there, but to those that have done it, I just have to say you are amazing people. Some of those answers made me laugh, and some damn near made me cry! I admire ALL of those that had the strength to open themselves up like that. I want to do it so bad, but I just don't know what to say.
Eric's Mom: www.lyndhurstnj.org can give you all the nitty gritties but, as a caregiver, I'd tell you go early! It gets really, really busy in the afternoon and, particularly if you have smaller kids, it can be chaotic. I wear a suit and splash around - we get drenched and have a great time and get out before it gets nuts. It opens at like 11 so we do a quick picnic lunch and (since they're under 5) avoid older, rambunctious kids. There are "volunteer lifeguards" but I helicopter like nobodies business while we're there - they basically keep the peace and little more.
We LOVE it and it totally helps pass the time on a hot afternoon.
Thanks for the information North Jersey nanny. It sounds great. I will tell my sister about it, maybe we will bring our kids there before the summer is up.

Every time I think of Central Park I think of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. I believe Peter and Fudge lived near there.

jane I love the top on the nanny in the header. It is so cool!
I agree Umass. Nice boobage, but not much cleavage, so maybe the people that kept bitchin' about 'em hanging out on the other one will be happy now!
My charges and I go to Van Saun almost weekly but lately we've been really into the Lyndenhurt (sp?) Sprayground. It is AWESOME!
can you give more information on the Lyndhurst Spray Park?
