New Haven Avenue in Milford, CT

Received Wednesday, November 21, 2007
In Milford CT on Monday Nov 19 around 330 pm I saw a very heavy Hispanic women with her hair pulled back with 2 babies, one about 2, a boy with light blond very curly hair, and she was pushing a pink stroller. I saw them on New Haven Ave going towards the firehouse and center of town. You might want to know that she was smoking a cigarette around your children.

Are you guys serious? A woman smoking a cigarette outdoors while pushing a stroller is abuse?

I didn't even see it mentioned if she was blowing smoke in the kids face, or stuffing a fag into their mouths (ps. a fag is a cigarette in Britian).

I'll probably catch all kinds of Hell for saying this, but first of all, I would not hire a nanny or babsitter or anyone who would be around my children, if I knew they smoked.

If I found out later they were smoking, I would fire them as quickly as I would if I found they were hitting my child.

Aside from being harmful to them, even if not blown directly int heir face (which would be my first concern) it is disgusting and a poor example for what I want my children taught.

Okay feisty smokers...bring it on! LOL!

O.k. meme - here is my re-post, lol.

As I said, I am a smoker. But you will not hear any lip outta me because you are 100% correct. Any moron that smokes around children should be fired. It is a health hazzard and not fair to their little developing lungs to be inhaling all of your second-hand smoke. Is it hard for me to take flak for being a smoker, hell yes. But the children come first.

I do not smoke and never have and I am not going to allow my "nanny" who would be with my child most of the time smoke either. It's a big no no for me.

8:10...thanks! LOL

This posting is a bit lame. If she only smokes outside while pushing the stroller so what??? If she takes the kids out on a regular basis they will see people who smoke. Rabbi's , priests and teachers smoke as well!

Give me a break!

Why is this post so lame? I bet you will find at least 90% of the parents on here very passionate about their children not being around 2nd hand smoke. The other 10% ... well, I assume they don't care because they already smoke around their kids.

When I see smoking people, I just want to beat them down. Give em a good beating. They are putting so much carbon monoxide in our air. Anyone notice how you cannot go in and out of any building without getting stuck in a tunnel of toxic smoke? I'd love to go ninja on those toxic, earth hating bastards.

10:44 - Earth hating bastards??? Did you perchance hop into an SUV lately??? Please ....you need to be beat down for your obnoxious behaviour!

I dont smoke..never have, however...there is no need to speak like you just did. What a fool you are.

People shouldn't smoke near kids, or, for that matter, other human beings, indoors or out. Its disgusting, rude and unhealthful.

It's wonder to me that's its even still legal. Shows the power of a wealthy entity in our country to buy favors in our political system. Disgusting.

LOL about the SUV comment! SO TRUE!!!! These parents are so concerned about global warming yet they all drive expensive, gas-guzzling SUVs the the malls, tennis and hair appointments.

As for the comment about 90 percent of the parents "on here" thats like what about 20-30 people??? Let's face it, those regularly on here are all the same names posting.

Plenty of parents smoke responsibly. I don't, I quit before I got pregnant but I know people who do. They don't smoke in their home or around their kids. Some have a room with an air-filtration system in the basement they might go to for a smoke but never around their kids!

My husband will enjoy an occasional cigar outsde only! As for the amount of pollution he is putting in the air, I am much more concerned about all our neighbors driving their Navigators and Escalades around town.

You mean like like Al Gore and his Nobel Peace prize for his research on global warming, who happens to live in a home that uses 20 times the amount of energy as a normal house, bought his wife an SUV, and I believe also flies in a private jet? People like that?

8:10 here:
I agree with you 9:39 - There are a lot of responsible smokers (is there such a thing? lol) ... and I am one of them. I never smoke in the house or around my kids. And I never smoked when I was pregnant. Funny thing is, before I had kids, I always thought to myself - how ridiculous for someone to quit smoking when they were pregnant, and then start back up afterwards. I swore to myself I never would. But after PPD, anxiety, being a new mom, and 10 thousand other reasons kicked in, I started smoking again. And I hate it that I do, but I'm not sure I want to quit yet. But almost once a week, it never fails, I will have a non-smoker berate me (usually when buying a pack) ... "Oh, you know those things will kill you, right?" - NO KIDDING! It never ends. But I do sympathize with them, also ... and would never bombard them or my kids with my bad habit.

Al Gore wants the middle class to save the earth. The lower/middle class have to do everything. They built this country, they are fighting for this country in the middle east and yet we are also supposed to use only one square of tp to wipe our asses. you know al gore needs a fistfull to attack his giant, white ass!

FYI:
In March 2007, Al Gore traded in his Lexus and decided to go green by purchasing a Mercury Mariner Hybrid. I know, it was about time. He received a lot of negative press starting with arriving to the Sierra Club Summit in a Cadillac Escalade, the mother of all SUV polluter(s).
So, at least he's trying.

I guess I'm still a little cynical in regard to him. I think he's trying to look like he's trying. Even an ape would understand that he has to take measures now to reduce the amount of fuel he is gobbling up once the ugly truth has come to light. What was he doing before it was made public? Somebody as knowledgeable as he claims to be about how to save energy surely recognized his own hypocrisy long, long ago. He only made changes (minimal and slowly at that) once people found out and started screaming WTF!

Hey wait! I AM on "I saw your hypocritical politician," right? Guess I better step down off my soapbox now so we can get back to the kiddos.

Right mom, Al Gore's known as "the ugly" truth, instead of "an inconvenient truth". lol
But even though he's a bit of a hypocrite, at least he's trying to do something about global warming ... people are starting to listen. I know it shook me.

my sister smokes and will light up right next to me- or her foster daughter (3) in a house full of people. It's so damn rude. I can't ever go to her house before I go somewhere else as I STINK (hair, my purse, clothes) after! When I do go over for holidays or something- as soon as I leave I need to go home and SHOWER! I wish that she would get how friggen gross it is- it's just plain nasty.

Now that, I would not stand for ... you allow your sister to stink up your purse? The only luxury I allow myself are my Pradas and LVs, and I would have to cop an attitude about my sister stinking up my bag. I'm sure you think I'm kidding, but I'm not!

well THAT happened ONCE_ since I leave it in the car!

9:37:

My concern for Global Warming is miles behind my care for the health and well-being of my children.

We are not talking about Global Warming here...we are talking about someone blowing their nasty filthy cancer smoke in VERY close proximity to small helpless children.

Try to stay on subject.

meme
(if this is the real meme)
why would you give us a load of crap for skimming off the subject for a second? Everyone does it ... and it's still about 2nd hand smoke. What's the problem? Are we being censored now?

Good for you, girl!

who's 9:37?

Pardon me. I meant to reference 9:39 not 9:37.

i don't believe there is such a thing as *responsible smoking* when you are a parent. even if you manage to keep the smoke away from the children, you're still setting the example that smoking is an okay thing to do by your actions. i'm a former smoker so i know how hard it is to quit, but i don't think anyone should kid themselves that there's an acceptable way for the parents or the nanny to be smoking around the kids.
