Tuesday

Dmitri at Dinosaur Park, Upper West Side, New York

Received Tuesday, November 6, 2007
You have a little boy, approximately 3 years old by my best guess, who has chestnut brown hair and a brownish jacket. He was at Dinosaur Park on Riverside Drive yesterday,(Monday, Nov. 5th) around 4:00. He was playing with a white toy car (the kind you can pick up at Duane Reade.

Your little boy was playing by himself for most of the time that I was there with my son, over 1/2 hour. I began to wonder who was watching after him. Eventually, your nanny showed up. She has long dark hair and was wearing a bright pink terry cloth outfit (pants/jacket), and had on a green coat. She was maybe Latina, I'm not sure, but spoke an accented English.

She came over to your son, Dmitri, and swooped him up off the equipment where he had been playing. It startled him, and my son and I. She yelled repeatedly, "I said it was time to GO!" into his ear when he protested. She then proceeded to wrestle him into his stroller, and she sat on the bench for a good 20 minutes with him in the stroller. They were still there when we left.

I'm not sure why she didn't let him play if she didn't mean to leave the park? And she didn't engage with him at all while he sat there strapped in. My heart broke for him, as he was such a sweetheart, and your nanny seemed completely incapable. I stared at her for a long time and then went over to them as we left and said "good-bye" to Dmitri. I think it might have scared her, as she then started talking to your boy and acting nice to him.

Oh, and the stroller was blue, with three wheels.

Let me know if I can give you anymore info. :(

Another future teen drug addict. It's sad to see neglected children like that, because you know deep in your heart the odds are against them.

Some parents investigate their dog walkers more than they investigate their babysitters and nannies.

3:14: I agree.

I know it is supposed to pretty much be all about the nannies on here, but after months and months of this, I do start to develop some contempt for the parents as well.

How can so many parents really not have any clue their nannies are so worthless?

I live in Brooklyn...That neigborhood where it is Nannyville! I have gotten in to the habit of reading this blog and it is just heartbreaking if you get in to these kid's heads... the ones that are left 5 days a week or more with an adult who spends the whole day showing the child that they do not care about keeping them safe, comfortable and happy.
Such a sadness.

I agree that Brooklyn has some very bad pockets of negligent nanny activities. There are groups and groups of nasty nannies who do nothing-except glare at the single nanny who shows up with a smile on her face and skip in her step. They beat her into submission and soon, she too joins their parade of negligence. We must force these stories down the throats of the beasts that employ these boars. We must say to them, if they will not conclude for themself, "THIS IS NOT OKAY FOR YOUR CHILD"
