Terrible nanny sighting: Yesterday (5/10)
Nanny sounded like she was was from the West Indies by her accent. Light skinned.Wearing a beige Gardening style hat . The little children were both blonde, both somewhere between 2 and 4. The girl was older. The boy had an old school style trike in red. The girl's trike was pink and white. The girl wearing a sleeveless, salmon colored corduroy jumper dress. The boy had blue shiny shorts that came down pretty long, a light blue shirt with a surf scene and teva style sandals. The nanny had a yellow and gold canvas tote bag with colorful faces all over it. This nanny was just mean mean mean. She clearly has utter disdain for the kids. Snaps at them constantly. Belittles them. Talks about them badly in to her nanny buddies while they are in earshot. She literally shoved food in their mouths and yells "hurry, hurry" to make them eat faster. After a very short time, she wadded what was left of lunch up into a brown paper bag and tossed it back in her bag. Doesn't keep an eye on them when they are on the other side of playground. Not one nice word or smile. I can't imagine paying someone to treat my children that way! The little boy's name might have been David-of that I am not 100 percent. The nanny showed up at the park and the children were really excited but she stayed less than 1/2 hour. She kept complaining about the heat and having to be outdoors. I have a feeling the nanny works for a stay at home mother because among the things the nanny was complaining loudly about was the fact that if the mother wanted the children to go the park, then the mother should take them herself. Then she went on to a whole thing about how a child needs their mother. (But wouldn't she be out of a job?). This nanny was just plain and simply mean.

You don't know what the situation is. Maybe its true maybe the kids need their mother. Maybe the mom is a money hungry whore that likes to work and not pay attention to her kids and leaves the nanny to do it. You don't know the situation. Those kids probably weren't paying any attention to that nanny they were probably too busy playing. And what were you doing to pay such close attention to her? Your probably a nanny stalker who sits in the park on your laptop writing fake stories. Maybe the kids got on her nerves, yeah because kids are a joy to be around ALL the time. And your complaining because she wanted to get out of the heat??? Are you kidding. I wouldn't want my kids out in the sun for 5 hours. Then if the kid comes home with a sunburn the nanny gets yelled at. Get a life and stop stalking nannies!

1041-
must have had your cup of crazy already this morning. You can't make excuses nanny's piss poor behavior in one sentence and in the next suggest that the post is fake. It's either one or the other and because I hang out at JJ Byrne, I have seen enough to know- this is more than likely DEAD ON.

okay, simpletons-
let me break this down for you.
Mothers who choose to work instead of raising their children provide jobs for people like you!
Stop biting the hand that feeds you. You know that hand, right?

10:41 - I think you fell off your rocker and hit your head on something hard.

Yes, it is true, kids can be trying. However, a PROFESSIONAL NANNY knows how to deal with the children, stay patient, and not be so negligent while caring for her charges.

It is unacceptable under ANY circumstance to talk bad about the children or their mother within ear shot of the children. Sure, we all need to vent, no matter what line of work you are in, but there is a time and a place when such things are appropriate.

Nannies are expected to care for and entertain their charges. This often involves taking them out in all kinds of weather. Somehow I doubt that it is so unbearable in May in NYC that the nanny can't last more than 30 minutes outdoors. In fact, according to weather.com, it is only 69 degrees...that is weather that I think most people would agree is absolutely ideal for playing outside.

The weather in Baltimore in August is often unaccomodating to outside play for more than 30 or so minute increments because of the humidty, but gosh, this time of the year I can be found outside with my charges all day long! (even now, as they nap, I am sitting on the back porch with a baby monitor)

10:41 - I can only hope that you are not a nanny or a mother because if so I feel so sorry for those children! You apparently had a deprived childhood. Maybe you should spend some time on the playground on this lovely spring day. Let loose, be a kid and get dirty.

To the parents of these children: please do your children a favor and find them a nanny that will take them out to the playground and let them be kids!

For all we know this woman is a housekeeper who doesn't like children and would not take a job as a nanny, but felt bullied into taking the kids out to the park for the woman who signs her check.

10.41 - I hope you are not a nanny and if you are I feel sorry for the children you nanny for. You are just a mean and sad person of that I am sure. I am on maternity leave, mum of a 7 month old baby and have the most wonderfull part -time nanny. She loves my daughter, is lovely, caring and has tons of patience. I treat her very well and would not change her for the world. I am due back to work in a couple of months and wanted my nanny to start a few months into my leave to ensure she is the right person when I go back to work. Mums that don't pay right wages and do not employ the righ person are mistaken but please, there are no excuses for mean and horrible nannies and the way they treat children.

You don't know who is blogging. You have no idea what issues and causes we are connected to, who pledge our money to and where we spend our time volunteering. In my experience, anyone who works with and has a heart that is open to the plight of children is aware of the needs of children wherever he/she goes.

I agree that this nanny sounds unprofessional: she sounds downright awful!! However, I'm tired (as a former nanny, and now a part-time home-daycare mom) of people commenting that if it were not for people who chose to work instead of raising their children, all the nannies would be out of a job. I see your point however I disagree; most nannies, myself included, have many many other skills and qualifications. The good nannies choose to do childcare: I personally have a degree in something completely unrelated. I choose to do childcare first because I love it, second so I get to be with my baby.
If people were to all start raising their own kids, many things would change, but it's a moot point because it will never happen.
Just my two cents!

I can't believe anyone would defend this woman, who was described as mean and uncaring. I was in the park all that afternoon, it was around 80, warm but pleasant, a great day to spend outside. I think 12:35 PM is right, she is probably a housekeeper who resents it when she is "stuck" with the children.
Parents, please, there are many of us who love being nannies, and do a terrific job. Be more selective about whom you entrust with your children!
UES Nanny

is there a way to keep the person who called a someone "a money crazy whore" out of this blog. There should be a way to keep this kind of "feedback" to minimum. I say "block" her!

i know that the blog admin. tries not to censor comments, but yeah that was ridiculous. once you start censoring, where do you stop?

with regard to nannies being out of a job if they were not working as nannies. yes they would be. the ignorant ones the complain would definitley be out of work. they dont have any other skills. they are barely qualify as sitters but somehow got jobs as nannies. A real nanny can drive, help a child with homework, knows the heimlich, can swim, knows about child development, etc etc ect.

these nasty nannies would never find work anywhere! that is why it is so disguting to hear them complain about the very women who give them jobs! some of these good for nothings make as much as $17 an hour CASH. why? because they have acting skills and turn it on when mom and pops are around.

1. Just FYI: I am on the Upper West Side, only 15 minutes from the Upper East Side (96th Streeet). I was outside much of the day on May 10th, and THE WEATHER WAS VERY NICE! So I don't know why the nanny made such a fuss about the weather.

2. I am a mom, and former nanny, and feel very strongly that the childcare profession is not for everyone, so those who feel any bitterness toward kids should stay away from them.

3. For those who blame the kids: I've seen it all. There are really bad kids out there whose parents give them the right to bully their nannies, & it's really pathetic. If you find yourself being bullied, quit the darn job and look for a family that appreciates your love. Bullying the kids back does not help, it only makes a potentially nice nanny incompetent.

4. I think it is great that this site exists. Anyone who witnesses any kind of abuse has the right to tell, and not be afraid that someone will criticize them for telling.

There are healthy options a lot of times. And if the parent doesn't want the child to have what ever is being offered, than that is the legitimate response. It shouldn't be that the nanny isn't trusted with $12. As for the mother who said that she repays the nanny whatever she "lays out", I do take issue with that. This is your child. You need to make the provisions for the child. Your failure to do so suggests that you don't trust your nanny. I know exactly your thinking. You fear that if you leave house money the nanny just might spend it. But if the nanny has to shell out her own and ask for it back, she will be less likely to use the money.
Tight. Used of persons or behavior; characterized by or indicative of lack of generosity.
If I were a nanny, I would work for a family with 9 children before I would work for a "tight" employer. Cheapskate. Tightwad. Miser. Hoarder. Penny Pincher. Skin Flint. Magpie.

Did you mean this for the playground etiquette post?

1:02:

Yes, I'm sure it was. She can't reply to a post in the correct way, but she can lecture me on agreeing to do something my nanny asked for.

I'm thinkin' she has done that before and that she's tossin' back the gin and tonics even as she posts her stupid comments

Anonymous said...

I doubt there's any tonic involved

Anonymous said...

MMMMMM, Plymouth Gin is the best...

Anonymous said...

Thank you ladies for the inspiration... I am sipping a delicious G&T as I write. The supermarket was SOLD OUT of tonic just now! I guess every mother in the tri-state area had to have a G&T or three for mother's day! LOL

Anonymous said...

Never having tried Plymouth I will have to look it up next time I am in the liquor department. For now, I'll just sip on a shot of Wild Turk 101. It doth soothe the soul.
