TJ Maxx in NY, NY

Received Tuesday, April 17, 2007
If your nanny took your child to TJ Maxx on 18Th and 6Th. Ave this evening around 6:30 PM, EST then you should be aware that she treated him with disregard. He was screaming and crying and the nanny completely and totally ignored him. This went on for at least a half hour. The boy was Caucasian, about two and in a Red Bug. He wore an orange top and brown pants. The nanny was African American, possibly 45-55 y.o. and wearing a denim jacket and jeans. I felt very sad for this little guy. At the same time everyone else in the store knew that someone was ignoring their screaming child. The nerve!

letting him cry for half an hour is wrong but maybe the child is spoiled and used to getting things his way and the nanny is trying not to give into it yet again letting him cry that long is wrong she should have taken him out of the store and tried to console him talk to him

It's six thirty, the nanny has the child out and about shopping? I hope she was out because she was on a job errand. If she was then she's probably just worked a long day and is tired. If she was doing personal shopping then she had no business having the child out at that hour. The child was probably tired.

I agree she should have taken him out of the store it's rude to the other shoppers to let a child scream for a half hour-of course this is ONLY is he was spoiled but we don't know. If she was simply ignoring him because she didn't care then it's wrong and neglect.

yes. that is what I am paying my rat bastard of a nanny to do. Shop at some sketchy discount store on my dime while she leaves my child to scream her lungs out. And that certainly isn't how a civilized person would teach a child discipline!

How deplore hearing a child screaming in a store. She was probably on a shopping binge and didn't even notice the sound.

1:40 -
You let a "rat bastard" care for your child? You are mother of the year. Also - TJ MAXX isn't exactly Walmart. They have good, quality, name brand things there!

I never post here, but I have to say that 1:40, you have no business having children, and TJMaxx is a perfectly legitimate clothing store with great products. Your comments are insulting, and you seem to want to portray yourself as high-class with fine, expensive tastes, but yet you hire a "rat bastard" nanny, and post a pompous note on a blog expecting to make a good impression? Very civilized, indeed.

Rat Bastard of a nanny? Are you kidding me? If thats the way your refer to your nanny she definitely shouldn't be caring for your children! Although I can only IMAGINE what sort of an employer you are!! I'm sure you're the mother that quickly runs to the high end retail store to by something for your baby so it will be quiet....instead of giving it LOVE AND AFFECTION which is much more valuable then any of the rubbish you could ever buy!!!

Isn't 6:30 universal dinner time/bath time/getting ready for bed time?

Anonymous said...

no, you didn't- get offended on behalf of TJ maxx!

1:40,
Why don't you hire a good nanny, that you respect? Do you hire the cheapest you can find, so you can spend the difference at Prada?

I thought 1:40 was being facetious.

Also, 6:30 may be late for a two-year-old to be out, but I never fail to be amazed at all the really young kids out and about at all hours. Every time I have gone to a 24 hour store like Home Depot there is ALWAYS some family with young kids there at midnight, 1 AM as if it was the middle of the day. I have also gone to the movies late (10 PM) to avoid the kiddie crowd only to find 3 and 4 year olds sitting behind me (Fantasia, Jurassic Park, etc.) Nowadays, I fully expect there to be screaming infants at a midnight showing of "Grindhouse". Save me Jeebus.

3:52,
In a word, no. Maybe in Podunk, in NYC many parents aren't even home by 6:30. If they want to spend time with their kids, they go to bed later, and sleep later in the A.M.

Ahh yes parents who keep there kids up because they feel 'guilty' that they aren't home enough for their child, then when the child flips out they wonder why?!

6:45 AM,
What difference does it make what time they go to bed, as long as they get enough sleep? Our family is still asleep at 6:45 AM

It depends on the child's sleep cycle when they should go to sleep.

My cousins kept their two little ones on the father's night-shift schedule. I'm not sure why. Was it because the parents found it easier to just live the day as if it was the day shift? Did the parents want to spend more time with their babies? I have NO IDEA but these kids were having breakfast at 1 PM and so on. That upset me a lot. Even weirder is they were oblivious that the rest of the family/world wasn't on their night owl schedule and didn't want to be blowing out candles on a three year old's b'day cake at MIDNIGHT. So odd. This went on until the first one went to kindergarten, BTW. For all I know, they were one of the many families at Home Depot at 2 in the morning, lol.

I can always tell when my neighbor is out of town. The nanny and child come and go at all hours. They don't go to the regular classes. Large vehicles-low to the ground and with illegally tinted glass pull up with the bass thumping. The 7 year old doesn't make the bus on time and nanny has to drive that child 1/2 hour later. No doubt awakened only by the bus's airbrakes pulling away.

another opportunistic nanny making her job suit her needs instead of the child's.

Food for thought, 1131 you little peeping tom why don't you say something to YOUR NEIGHBOR? Children should not be kept up at all hours of the nite to appease their parents schedule. If you want to spend time with your kids at a 'decent hour' take a day off of work or get off your crack-berry!

In a way, thank God for nosy neighbors, they've probably done a lot of good throughout the years.

sprak,
I was just hoing to say that somewhere right now there is a child waiting to be saved by a nosy neighbor!

Anonymous said...

Well, saving a child would be nice, but hearing screams and calling the police probably saved many a wife, noticing a stranger lingering around the outside of someone's home and alerting the homeowners, may have prevented a burgerly or a peeping tom's agenda, and these and other similar "nosy neighbor" tips are things that are definitely helpful. There have also been many cases of child abuse with the end result being a child's death in which the neighbor's did NOT contact authorities.

she better not come into MY TJMAX when I'm shopping. I'll boot her right on out of there. No one disturbs me when I am shopping and I don't mind approaching such a violator with an important suggestion such as PLEASE LEAVE

I used to work at a TJ Maxx in Buffalo and I must say that I've seen some really bad stuff while working. I know its quite off topic, but when I heard something about TJ Maxx, I needed to mention this. On countless occassions, I've seen pets locked in the car in hot weather with windows up, but back in the beginning of May had to be the worst I've seen yet. A customer came in and said that there were 3 children, who couldn't be more than 4 and under, locked in the car with only one window slightly cracked open. She also said the make and model of the car, as well as that she'd been watching them sit in the car for around an hour because she was waiting for the mom to come out so she could say something to her. The mom was cashing out in the line behind mine and must've heard, so as soon as she was done she ran to the vehicle. I was already outside trying to get the license plate number (I was going to announce that the lights were on) when she got in her car and drove off. I did see the 3 kids and one of them was just a baby. Me, being a mom, I went inside and called the police (We got a memo a few months prior saying that we couldn't call the police for any reason, only managers could, but I figured this was a special circumstance and my boss wouldn't care). I also gave the license numbers to the customer who originally complained, and she called as well. Because of this incident, I lost my job. My boss said that we couldn't call the police because it was reasons for a lawsuit, regardless if I called on break or after leaving work. I can't believe the nerve of some mothers. I understand having to go shopping with children, but hire a freakin babysitter for your errands. Don't leave your children in a hot car while you go clothes shopping. And even if you can't afford to hire a babysitter for when you're not at work, take the kids with you.

Also, TJ Maxx might have great clothes, but they're horrible to work for. Ask anyone who works there.

What a freaking awesome post.
Awesome.
There was recently a story in Brooklyn where a mom left her child in the car to shop at home depot. When she got to the car, the cops had the child and she screamed, "give me my kid". The cops said, "we're taking care of him now". Emphasis on taking care of!
sorry you lost your job. Probably for the best.

I definitely think so, I liked a lot of things about working there, but there was a lot of policies I hated. I mentioned about people leaving animals in the car, we couldn't do a thing about it. I thought it was illegal to leave any creature in a vehicle, especially in hot weather <- Let me know if it isn't. I don't know what parents are thinking nowadays.
