Edgemont Park in Montclair, NJ

Received Monday, April 30, 2007
Nanny with little girl, approx. 18 mos of age with a yellow and white pacifier. Child had on purple socks and a pink bow in hair. Nanny was African American, wearing jeans, with tight bun in hair. This happened between 9:15 and 10:45 AM (Mon 4/30). The entire 40 minutes I was playing with my own child, the nanny did not interact with her charge. Most of that time she was on her cell phone. Even when I tried to engage the nanny in some group play, the nanny didn't respond. When she put the child on the swing, she would occasionally push her, but barely. She didn't even look at the child and said not one word to her that I could discern.

This is why i dont use my cell when I am w/ the child I watch. If I have to then I use my blue tooth so at least this way I can still play w/ him...

Clearly a case of inattention to the child. That's what it was and that's not what the nanny is getting paid for.

EXACTLY MOMS AND NANNIES have the same problem with using their cells TOO MUCH!!! And honestly who is to say that the nanny isn't dealing with the childs 'mom' on the other end of that phone?!?! Can't really blame the nanny then if the might won't stop calling!

7:47 What a stretch! That's trying really hard to cover the nanny's deriare'!! I do agree that there is way tooooooo much cell phone talking when people need to be paying attention to the things at hand, such as driving! That's not to say watching a child takes any less attentiveness.
