Burger King in Jacksonville, Florida

Received Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Nanny named Sandy caring for a boy named Tommy either as a nanny or sitter. She took him to the Burger King in Jacksonville. He seemed very young-not so steady on his feet but wobbled to play area. The nanny/sitter placed an order and then sat down at a table. She went and got the child, he sat with her. He ate for less than two minutes. He asked to go back and play. She said yes. She sat there at the table with her back to him on a very wide, silver phone doing some typing. This was around lunch time and pretty busy. There were many people in and out around that time. The nanny did not think to even look and check on the child. The children in the area were bigger and kind of loud. When she went to throw the tray of food away, she walked out the front door and made a phone call standing off to the side of the front door. She was out for two minutes. Back to the restaurant. She came in and retrieved the child and seemed to actually be pretty sweet to him. This is perhaps a carelessness she does not understand. That child should be more closely supervised. Talk to your sitter.

Are the parents authorizing all of these fast food vacations? I cringe at the toxins and poisons these children are ingesting in to their bodies. Isn't that one reason to PAY for childcare. To ensure the child is provided nutritive food?

^^^HUH? One of the reasons to PAY for childcare is to insure nutritive food? Where did you get that from? Nannies are paid to take care of the child. Most nannies I know, if not all of them, give the child food that the parents provide or authorize the child to have. I am sure these nannies are not spending their own money at these fast food places, the parents must know.

Trader Jan ...... lighten up. Some parents have no objection to the moderate intake of fast food. You think children are rabbits and must eat greens all the time? You sit down and cringe and leave peoples choices when it comes to diet alone.

How would a child (assuming young toddler) be old enough to still be learning how to walk, yet also have the ability to ask the nanny if he could go play? This doesn't sound quite right to me...

i don't think the food is the issue here, it's carelessness on the part of the nanny! look how many children are being stolen these days! cell phones with the babies in wagons or carriages is somewhat fine, but leaving the child alone to take a call? irresponsible.

I think the person writing the post was trying to guess the child's age by his motor skill with walking. I guess? My 13 month old asks for milk by lifting his sippy cup up. Perhaps she was observing non verbal cues? The point is a child that young shouldn't be left alone!!

This sounds like a social worker taking a kid to a visit with bioparents ... and biop were a no show. Not everyone caring for a child is a sitter, nanny, or mom.

Yes it was careless, in the womens part, not to be watching the kid. I am a nanny and I work for 5 different families. Each family has their own view points on their methods of foods to be fed to their children. I feel like family to each and every the families, me and my boyfriend spend holidays and partys with all of them. I do take the children out to eat on occasion. Usually it is Chick-Fa-A, no burger king or Mc Donalds. I see lots of parents and sitters alloying their children to be in the play area unsupervised. I think that all kids should be looked after, because their is to many horrible people out their willing to do bad things to kids. I however don't ask for money to take the kids out to eat, to the movies, or anywhere else. I treat the kids like they are a sibling and me and my boyfriend feel honored to take them out and treat them to a movie, water park, or something else. I enjoy seeing a smile on their face and knowing they are having a great time is good enough for me.
