Daffy's on 57th between Park & Lexington NYC

Received on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 "lunchtime" at Daffy's
I work on 57th & Madison and occasionally stop in Daffy's on 57th between Park and Lex at lunchtime. Every time I have entered the store it is full of nannies with strollers. More often than not, several of the children are screaming bloody murder, crying, and throwing tantrums. I've sometimes heard a nanny shush the child while she continued to shop, but, I have never seen a nanny stop shopping to calm the child down, nor leave the store when the child becomes upset. In fact, I once saw a nanny continuously dangle a ladies shoe at the child as if it were a toy, with no calming affect. I have seen the nannies step away from the strollers while the child is screaming in order to browse through racks of clothing. I have on occasion seen children not in strollers allowed to wander quite a distance from the nanny's view. The children are obviously miserable. Why in the world would they want to be in Daffy's I the first place? I'd like to try to be more specific about the description of the nannies, but the point is there are so many of them. There have been instances where I've witnessed a child scream continuously for such a great length of time (I'd say 15-20 minutes), that I was tempted to ask for the nanny's employer's phone number so I could contact them.

I don't pay my nanny $17 an hour to take my child shopping. Nor does she have my permission to do so. If she said to me, "I need to do this, would you mind". I would say yes and hope she would be quick. I understand an errand while out. Not leiurely shopping. A nanny is not a parent. My nanny damn well better do what I say.

What parent who can afford a nanny shops at Daffy's? Dumb Ass!

Oh for heaven's sake, children throw tantrums especially if they are in the 2-3 year old range. It does not necessarily mean that something is wrong but more often means that a child is testing the waters as to how much power they can exert. Mmmn if I scream for "x" amount of minutes the nanny will appease me with a lollipop!

Funny, I see just as many stay at home moms engaged in the same supposed misbehavior at TJ Maxx. Also, I witness the chat on cell phone while child is unsupervised bit more often by moms than nannies at playgrounds. Where is the "I saw your stay at home mome?" site?

Yeah, really. As a mom, I often have to run errands and shop while carrying my 3 month-old in the baby bjorn. If I left a store every time he starts fussing, there would be no food in the house and probably not much else either.

All you pay the nanny is $17/hour? Maybe if you paid her some REAL money, she wouldn't have to go shopping on "baby time" to Daffy's.

Just a bunch of rich women complaining about their illegal immigrant nanies....gimme a break!

Dear Poster Above,I have great concern for you and your anger. You seem to struggle with severe class issues. Additionally, you seem to lack basic reading comprehension skills. That submission was sent in by a Daffy's Store Employee.Rich women, my ass.

To the poster addressing Working Girl:

I'm neither the original poster nor Working Girl, but I suggest you check you OWN reading comprehension skills. I'll quote for you:

[blockquote]I work on 57th & Madison and occasionally stop in Daffy's on 57th between Park and Lex at lunchtime[/blockquote]

You're both literacy and geographically illiterate if you think this poster works for Daffys. The poster works near Daffys. Which given the area, could make the poster anything from a construction worker to a hotel maid to a retail clerk to waitstaff to an executive who enjoys a bargain. We have no way of knowing. Which if your presumptive posterior was so in tune with, you'd know. But go ahead, keep making your assumptions. Which I'm sure you know makes an ass of you and me!

WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS - THE REAL POINT IS, PAYING OUT $17HR, PRESUMABLY TAX FREE TO THE EMPLOYEE, YOU WOULD HOPE THIS PERSON WOULD FOCUS ON YOUR CHILD INSTEAD OF WHERE TO SPEND HER SALARY. LETS NOT FORGET THAT THE EMPLOYER HAD TO MAKE ALMOST $30 PRE TAX IN ORDER TO END UP WITH $17 AFTER TAX , PRESUMING THEY ARE IN THE HIGHEST TAX BRACKET IF THEY CAN AFFORD TO PAY $17HR - NO MATTER HOW WEALTHY, ITS STILL HAVING TO MAKE $30 PRE TAX TO PAY OUT $17 TO A PROFESSIONAL SHOPPER WHO DOESNT PAY INCOME TAX OR WATCH YOUR KID FOR THAT MATTER - DID I SAY KID, I MEANT CHILD!
