Theme Day Ideas

OPINION
Looking for some ideas for a theme day the kids and I will be having either at the end of this week or early next week. We're going to have a pajama day/slumber party day, the kids did this a while back at their preschool and talk about it all the time. I'm looking for ideas of activities and crafts, etc, that we can do throughout the day. No tv, kids aren't allowed to watch, so we can't do a movie or anything. I'm going to get some library books that are slumber party related but what other ideas do you guys have? Usually for a day like this I'd do a cute movie cuddled up with blankets and pillows, but that's not an option here. Kids are a boy and girl, 3 and 5 respectfully. Thanks!

Making a ' tent' out of sheets or blankets, laying out sleeping bags, having ' breakfast for lunch' (or dinner, depending on what hours you have them), all might be fun. Don't forget storytelling ( not just reading, there's a difference).

I think a "tent" or camping theme would be awesome. You could do some great nature activities, or nature hunts. Also, you could make s'mores. To go with the camping theme you could have a "critter" or animal theme, and make some animal artwork (masks, etc) go on a "bear hunt" etc. and also get a critter carrier to collect some bugs etc.

I did a PJ day theme with my Kindergarten class I taught last year!! We did not watch TV either but instead made blanket forts, laid out sleeping bags/pillows/blankets all over (maybe you can temporarily rearrange some furniture if your MB and DB are ok with it). We had popcorn and also made our own healthy slumber party snacks like the ones on this site: http://www.hungryhappenings.com/2011/07/kids-will-go-nuts-over-these-healthy.html

Have fun!!

How about a color theme to add more fun. Choose your own color, but as an example. Purple Day, everyone wears purple, dye the milk purple, purple kool-aid,eat only purple (or purple dyed) food. Do crafts with purple paint, play dough, read stories " Charlie and the Purple Crayon". Buy aerosol spray purple temporary hair paint, decorate the nap room with purple crepe paper/balloons with an indoor tent for nap time. I vividly remember doing this in pre-school, and my favorite part was having a Purple Cow for snack which was basically a root beer float but used welches grape juice instead of soda.

You could do a camping theme, either outside or in. Set up a tent (or make one) and read books about camping, if the weather is nice, go on a nature walk. Have a picnic lunch in the tent and make s'mores (even if it is in the microwave.) As for the PJ day, those are so much fun! The kids get a kick out of it because that means I get to wear PJs too. :) Maybe even pop some popcorn before reading a story! I think it's great that you are doing this, have fun!

I'm pretty sure it's Harold and the Purple Crayon.

With my charges, I like to take the theme from whatever superhero or movie character they are into. For instance, they were really into Pirates of the Carribean, so I made a scavenger hunt for them to go on and they received pirate themed prizes at the end. I also hid "gold coins" or pennies in the sand box. I served Pirates Booty as a snack. They loved it!
