Professional Childcare wanted, Norfolk VA - I am looking for a professional nanny/care giver for my 10 mo old baby boy. I am working a few days per week but I work only as needed so my sitter must be EXTREMELY flexible. I will drop off at your house if you have proper accommodations or you can come to my home. I will pay 8$/hr. Please email if you are a FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL BABYSITTER with REFERENCES and have FLEXIBILITY! Thank you so very much!

In Norfolk, this isn't so great but around here this is perfectly reasonable.

I don't think it's just the pay that is the problem. It's also the fact that she wants a full time professional nanny that she won't guarantee hours. What if one week the mom only works 5 hours. No one can survive if they need full time work on inconsistent hours.

To me there is a difference between someone willing to work fulltime hours and a professional fulltime nanny.

I agree about the lunacy of wanting someone to agree to be available fulltime hours but not able to give them an exact schedule.

I would bet this person wouldn't be willing to compensate for on-call hours either.

On the contrary, I could see this working out for the right person, for example a SAHM needing a bit of extra money.

It's the random hours I could see being a problem for even a SAHM.

She wouldn't be able to plan anything, unless OP is able to give her a weekly schedule of her hours or something.

This position would be perfect for someone w/no life!!

Who can be on-call like that??!

A perfect candidate would be someone who already has stable income and could use a little extra every now and then.

This would only work for someone who is either a SAHM or someone with a home daycare. But that's information we all realize. The problem is, the mb or db who wrote this ad, for whatever reason, do NOT realize this. I'm trying to imagine the reactions of myself or any of my other "professional full time Nanny/Babysitter" (and all of the references and certifications that come along with it) friends being told they'd make 8 bucks an hour with absolutely zero assurance of minimum hours. I don't think I would have applied to this as a teenager with few references, and I sure as heck wouldn't now, haha.

This could work for a nanny who already has a stable position and knows exactly what her schedule was like everyday with her current charges. The other family would have to be okay with it, of course. It could be treated as a sort of nanny share. The mom could drop her kid off as needed to the home where the nanny held her full time job.

Of course, this is minus any type of school, outings, camps, etc.

I think this position would work for the right person. For example, I work from home watching one child full time, and if the family were ok with me adding another child a few times a week, I'd be all for some extra income!

It's not the cost with this one all though that's an issue too it's that mom expects total flexibility no set hours.

It's not clear if she needs days or nights or what.

It sounds like this woman needs a child care that accepts part time drop ins. Because asking someone to keep their schedule open f/t, just in case is rude, unless youre paying a f/t rate. Would the mother work under such conditions? Ccs that accept drop ins sometimes are lower quality ccs. Due to the fact that there are only so many spaces available. If a child care accepts p/t drop ins, theyre possibly not honoring the max number of children or the "per age" ratios. A quality cc would have spaces filled by f/ters. JMHO Parents like this are why I burned out doing cc after only three years.
