Avoiding Rip-Off in Rhode Island

opinion 1
What is a fair rate for a nanny with nearly 5 years experience in the southern New England? I will be on the border of MA/RI in a place called Barrington, Rhode Island. I want to make certain I set a fair price so I don't turn away potential clients or get ripped off. I mostly care for kids up to 5 years old and will care for siblings. Thanks in advance.

Hey i'm from RI too (Providence). I can't give you a specific rate because i don't no your history (Ex:what you do on the job, how many children,babies/toddlers? etc.) but nothing under $12/hr. Since this is New England your rate should be higher then other places in the US (If you noticed RI is near NY, Boston, CONN, and we have higher living expenses.)

If i was you I wouldn't take anything less then $15/hr (Esp with multiple kids) plus milage if taking your charges to an from places or running errands.

Barrington is such a pretty town, the bike trail is awesome for walks with the kids without dealing with cars. I live up here in Boston now and command a much higher rate. Barrington is a stones throw from Fall River MA, where rates for childcare are like $150 a week. I hate to say it but, $10 an hour is pretty much the top rate you will find. However, Barrington is known as one the more wealthier towns so you may command $15 with certain families.

People who live in Barrington are well off. They can afford at least 10 an hour, I would ask for 15.

and I disagree with the comment about Fall River: it doesn't matter that Barrington is near FR. Fall River is the ghetto. Research how much housing costs in Fall River as opposed to Barrington.

Ask for 15.

Umass i agree. RI has expensive living and i rarely, if ever, see Nannies for less then $11/hr. $10 is really pushing it. Maybe a occasional babysitter, but not a Nanny. Heck, Ciggerettes are $8-$9 a pack here unlike other southern states where they are around $5.00/pk.

Someone i no who has zero experience wouldn't take anything under $12/hr because it was a M-F/9.1/2hr days.

Okay, I used to live in a city about 16 miles from Providence RI in Massachusetts (the states are small up here)
You will probably get $10-$12 an hour. Fall River is an entire city within it's self, it's not the ghetto part of Barrington. The whole city is not ghetto,"The Highlands" is a very beautiful area of Fall River. Look, I worked and lived down in that area since I was born, til the age of 35. I worked 3 different nanny jobs in that area, Norton, MA, Mansfield MA, and North Attleboro MA $10-$12 max, just don't get low balled by babysitter from the ghetto.
