Wash, Rinse, Repeat...

opinion 1
I'm interested in knowing what other nannies have covered in their contracts. Who writes the contract? Is there a good website to download one from?

With two families I used the 'family handbook' from greataupair.com.

It spells everything out. I really like it.

Here is the one I use:

I wrote it myself, but any time I start a new job, I sit down with the parents. We go over it carefully and negotiate any changes they (or I) want.

It does scare a few families off, but that's a good thing to me... when I have found a family who appreciates its professionalism and isn't afraid of the boundaries being set and the expectations of respect, I know I have found a family who will probably be easy to work for.

Most agencies provide sample contracts, and/or advice to parents and nannies. If you are not going through an agency I would look at a couple of those on line, think very carefully about what you want included, and present the family with it to discuss and make any additions or changes that you both agree on.
I agree with "not for the faint hearted", if the family balks at signing a contract, run for your life!

My MB and DB wrote the contract, but they just like of put it together based on many different ones they found online. It covers the hours I will be expected to work, overtime/weekend pay, vacations, sick days, and paid holidays. Also discusses taxes and which ones they will take care of and which ones I am responsible for. My daily duties, what is included with my salary (use of car, gas, health insurance, car insurance, cell phone, and groceries), and that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Mine is a pretty typical contract. Just make sure if you are writing one up yourself you do some research to make sure you don't leave anything important out! :)

Holy cow! That is some contract, faint of heart. I'm not going to lie I might steal parts of it if I ever get a job again.

In the last week I've had for interested parents freak out as soon as the learn they can't 1099 me , and I'm serious about following tax laws.

It stinks and I'm so desperate for work right now, but I'm going to stick to it. That other post full of the headaches of being off the books and an employer changing their mind has really cememnted that choice for me.
