The Beverly Hills Nanny

opinion 1
I have a question... I was a live in nanny for the last 7 years in Beverly hills. I had 3 children under the age of 8 and was making 60k a year. What should I charge for one child 15months with the hours of 730am-630pm m-f... And does it make sense to obtain an LLC for tax purposes?? Thank you.

Are you working in Beverly Hills still?
I would charge 10-15 dollars an hour, which is a broad range, but it depends on what you feel comfortable with. While you do have a decrease in children- you're sitll very experienced and working a very full-time job.
I made $14 an hour for a M-Th job, with one child. And- that's not in Beverly Hills!

I'm not sure about the taxes...

Use the care.com wage calculator and add a bit to the figure they give you to get an hourly rate. Then you'll need to remember that you earn OT as a live-out, but not as a live-in.

And why would you need an LLC?? You are the employee of the family that hires you. They are responsible for deducting your SS/Medicare taxes, and you can also ask them to withhold your federal and state taxes.

I don't understand what you mean by wanting to set up an LLC. That is a limited liability company that blends together the elements of a partnership and a corporation. I think what you mean is you want to set up a sole proprietor company which would give you 1099 income. And household employees such as nannies are not to be paid 1099, W2 only. Your emplyer is required to pay for FICA taxes. This is not an option that you can venture into.

as a nanny with that much experience in LA you can ask for $15/hour to start with. I have worked for families that paid up to $22/hour for two kids in LA
