Nanny hailed for saving toddler from path of Streets and Sanitation truck

hero nannies When nanny Jennifer Anton saw the white pickup truck careening toward her on the downtown sidewalk Saturday afternoon, she instinctively pushed away the stroller carrying her 20-month-old charge.

Little Tyler Jones was hospitalized but spared critical injuries because of her caregiver’s quick actions.

Anton was not as lucky.

“She’s an angel on this earth,” said Hugh Jones, Tyler’s father. “There’s no question that from the eyewitness accounts she pushed the stroller away and took the rather colossal hit herself.” (continued...)

Great story! And, I pray that the parents are paying for her medical expenses because I would bet someone at her age with her job does not have medical insurance. I hope the parents are doing the right thing for the woman who saved their child's life!

According to the article, it looks like the parents have an attorney for her so maybe they are handling her medical expenses? If not, she will be able to pay them when she wins this lawsuit against the city! Great nanny, she is truly a HERO!

This my worst fear as a nanny. I know I would have done the same thing in a heart beat for my charges or another child I saw in danger but I always think how will the emergency personal find the parents of the children if I'm unable to tell them. I know eventually the parents would be found but I wouldnt want the child to stay with social services while they search.
Maybe they could wear a bracelet with the parents name and #?

There are bracelets available, as well as other ID items:

As a nanny who drives, this article has reminded me I need to tape a copy of my charge's medical authorization and my own info to his car seat and label it ICE, so that In Case of Emergency first responders will open the envelope and have our info at hand.

Hi guys,
This is my friend Jen, she is having her second surgery tmrw and will likely have many more down the road. She is the bravest person I know and a true hero! She also doesn't have insurance! For updates you can go to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jenniferjenjenianton

Eventually a link to donate will be set-up. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Hope she gets through the surgeries easily! the parents should be taking care of her medical bills!

Tales- thanks I might order two and the ICE attached to the carseat is a great idea I never thought of. I'm def gonna type up some since I also drive all around the city. What kind of information should be included?

A friend- I'm sorry about your friend and her story is very touching but the donation thing really irks me. She did a wonderful thing but I don't believe she should be getting donations for it. If her family didn't provide insurance for her than she should have gotten it herself. With that said I agree with amom, the family should be helping with her medical bills as much as possible especially if they didn't provide her with the insurance. She saved their child's life it's the least they can do.
Knowing that her recovery will take months even years, they will hire someone else and she will be out of a job. So she should def recieve workers comp and disability, I just hope she paid taxes because suing the city will take awhile.

First responders are trained to look at your phone contacts list for ICE numbers; I have ICE not my kids1 and moms #, then ICE not my kids2 and dads #, then for me ICE husband and his#. Everyone should do this.

Regarding the heroic nanny, and her health care bills. If she wasn't being pai legally, her employers will be in deep doo-doo, since IL law requires workers comp for employees.

If that does happen to be the case, I wonder how long they'll be paying for her legal representation...
